The Immortal Principality of Ustalav lies on the northern shore of Lake Encarthan, a grim bastion of civilization amid the barbarian north, where a harsh landscape and a history rich in tragedies inspire a wary population with skepticism, religious devotion, and superstition. A conglomeration of loosely affiliated counties, each run by feuding nobles vying for power and inf luence, Ustalav is a pitiful shell of its former glory, before it was subjugated to centuries of slavery at the hands of the Whispering Tyrant’s undead armies. While the nation’s upper classes struggle to compete with the very nations that abandoned them to fend for themselves after the Whispering Tyrant’s defeat, the average Ustalavic citizen has it much worse.

It is here, in the Immortal Principality, that the Carrion Crown Adventure Path takes place, and as you travel through the various counties, your character will rise from a simple pallbearer to the potential savior of the nation. As internally varied as a nation can be, Ustalav is your new home, and the possibilities for fame, fortune, and influence are as thick as the fog that creeps across the windy moors at night.

Research:
Research: Using a Knowledge check to research a topic allows you two options—simply making the check to see what a character knows about the topic (this is a free action, but can only be attempted once per character), or spending a day looking through references, books, and other materials (this check can be attempted multiple times, but no more than once per day). There are four locations in Ravengro that can be used to research—Kendra suggests all four, but warns you that the locals might need some convincing before they allow strangers to use their libraries. The four places are the Lorrimor Place, Ravengro Town Hall, Temple of Pharasma and The Unfurling Scroll (magic item shop).

Posting Convention:

This is a link to a great PbP guide:
Building a Better Doomed Hero: Painlord's Advanced Play-by-Post Play

I would like to encourage everyone to use the following posting conventions (source: Generic Dungeon Master)

1. Use ”Bold” with quotation marks for things your character says. ”Wait, everyone, I think I heard something!” I say as I back up against the wall.

2. Use bold italics for things your character thinks. This is supposed to be the building where Martine told us we would find those books, after all, isn’t it I think to myself as my heart begins to pound in my chest.

3. Use italics for questions or comments made by you as a player. Am I still suffering from a ringing in the ears from the explosion in the last encounter? If so, subtract 2 from that roll

4. Use out of character to describe actions your character is going to take, when you want to be clear about those actions (otherwise, it is acceptable to type your description of what your character is doing in regular type. I take a standard action to move as close to the building as I can, from the street, and stand with my back to the wall, then listen carefully

5. When rolling dice, please identify the nature of the roll ["dice=Perception Check, listening:]1d20+3[/dice"]
