Male Dragonborn Paladin, Level 4

Well, team, I'm fine to continue, but I'm conscious that not everyone's the same. I'm happy to follow Nechtan, but if everyone else wants to pause, that's OK by me!

Male Halfling Bard 4

"Forward to the foe..."

Healaugh hums a cheery marching song to help everyone along.

And unless someone persuades him otherwise, is on a dog hunt.

Greylan sighs and follows Healaugh, Nechtan and Ddraig Goch.

Male Human Fighter 3

Following . . .

Male Human Atrificer/3

This time, Ynyr keeps up with the rest of the party.

The friends make their way to a seemingly deserted camp site on the beach. You all spy the glint of weapons over the crest of dune! It's an ambush!

None of you are surprised. Rats. Roll initiative please.

Male Halfling Bard 4

Init (1d20 2=4)

"Knew it." Healaugh's satisfaction at being proved right rather slows down his response time.

Male Human Ranger 3

Init (1d20+4=17)

Male Human Fighter 3

Init (1d20+6=9)

Male Dragonborn Paladin, Level 4

Initiative: (1d20+1=18)

Male Human Atrificer/3

Initiative. (1d20+2=11)

Initiative Order

Block 1
Ddraig 18
Nechtan 17

Block 2
Marines 13
Leader 13
Greylan 12

Block 3
Ynyr 11
Darvyl 9
Healaugh 4

Map to come...

Male Dragonborn Paladin, Level 4

OK, team - I'm a little in shock here at being first in the initiative order. Do want to do this: quiet and surgical; or loud and with extreme prejudice?

Male Halfling Bard 4

As of when have either Ddraig or Nechtan favoured the quiet and surgical approach? Just asking.

They know you're there as well, they can see you, so it may not make much difference.

Healaugh wrote:

Whut? Nechtan was quiet for 12 seconds of the first fight. ;)

Male Dragonborn Paladin, Level 4

Excellent! 'Terminate with extreme prejudice' here we come :-)

>>>>MAP<<<<

Some explanation: squares with little upside-down 'V's in are difficult terrain, either sand dunes or dead bodies. The boats provide cover and, if tipped, can provide superior cover. The tents also provide cover. DDRAIG is up.

Male Dragonborn Paladin, Level 4

"The time of reconing is near" growls Ddraig, as he moves forward.

Double move to T29, advancing with malice aforethought!

Ddraig then lets fly with his dragon breath, taking in squares R30-R32, S30-S32 and T30-T32. Attack: 1d20+7 v AC; Damage: 1d6+1

Roll v Archer: 5+7=12

Roll v Controller: 15+7=22

If either attack hits, damage is 5+1=6 acid damage.

Just a note, as I am very bad at letting you know, you should all be at 2867 XP.

Fabes DM wrote:

Thanks, Fabes - my natural assumption was that I'd been my usual, slow, Dragonborn self!!!

If I can't kill it or intimidate it, I find it confusing :-)

Male Human Ranger 3

Nechtan advances, and concentrates his efforts on one of the archers.

Move to O25. Hunters Quarry on Archer at R32. Careful Strike vs AC (1d20+6=19, 1d6+2=6, 1d8=7) includes -2 for range, -2 for cover.

Note for the future, Ddraig - Dragon Breath is vs Reflex. Dragonbreath hits Leader. Nice one. Nechtan misses, I'm afraid.

Ddraig's breath causes a hole in the armour of a man who must be the leader of this band to judge by his demeanour. He doesn't look happy.

He mutters "Ormganger..." darkly.

If you speak Illuskan...

Spoiler:
Literally "Serpent-walker..." but it connotes a walking dragon i.e. one walking like a man.

2 Marines attack Ddraig with Crossbows. Both miss. They drop (free). Stand - move, draw swords - minor. The other one attacks Nechtan. Crit. 10 damage to Nechtan. He reloads (minor). Leader stands (move) Hunter's Quarry on Ddraig, and fires Twin Strike at Ddraig - 23 vs AC and 13 vs AC. 1 hit - 1d10+3+1d6 damage = 13 damage to Ddraig

Missiles fly through the air as the enemy let fly at the heroes. One crossbow bolt grazes nechtan and an arrow from the leader of the foe finds a place in Ddraig's armour.

Greylan runs down the beach to seek cover behind a boat.

>>>>MAP<<<<

Block 3 to go!

Male Human Atrificer/3

Can Ynyr hear what the man just muttered from where he was? He speaks Illuskan.

Move to M23. Magic weapon against the leader (at -2 because of the range)

Ynyr moves forwards, weighing his dagger in his hand. Estimating the distance to his target he tenses his muscles just the right amount, takes careful aim and throws his dagger. Determined to make his mark on this combat.

Throw that dagger. (1d20+6=21, 1d4+4=8)

"Well that wasn't too bad now, was it?" he says to no-one in particular as he deftly catches his returning dagger.

No, he couldn't hear it. But he might say it again. :D You hit, by the way.

Ynyr's dagger nicks the man, and he snarls with ferocity.

Male Halfling Bard 4

On his turn -

Healaugh advances, glaring at the ambushers. "Best be coming out now lads. Tha'll not know what hits tha."

His wand stabs the air aiming at the leader of the party. "Reckon he's thine Nechtan."

Moves to K21.

Misdirected mark (Ref); on hit target is marked by an ally within 5 squares to end of next turn. (1d20 6=20, 1d8 5=10). If that hits, Nechtan gets the lucky mark. Attacks not made against him are at -2.

Fabes

Spoiler:

I realise I never looked at Healaugh when PHB2 came out. May I do so now? Some rebuilding is in order I think, but I'll happily wait until we level - if we level ...

Male Human Fighter 3

With a loud "Whoop!" Darvyl charges the westernmost marine and slashes enthusiastically with his shortsword.

Move to I27, charge to N32
Charge! (1d20+11=26, 1d6+7=10)

Healaugh

Spoiler:
Oh, yes, of course. When/if you level seems like a good time.

The leader of the group dodges Healaugh's magic with a sneer.

Male Halfling Bard 4

Healaugh grunts slightly at the leader's swift reflexes. "Reet. Have to try summat else with tha.", he mutters under his breath.

"Go on lads. Get chopping."

Darvyl's reckless charge pays dividends as he gets the jump on the prone crossbowman.

Back to Block 1!

Male Dragonborn Paladin, Level 4

Ddraig strides forward to T31 and uses Paladin's Judgment against the leader, also using Divine Strength.

Paladin's Judgment with Divine Strength (1d20+9=13, 3d8+5+4=24)

Arse!

He then spends an action point, and uses Radiant Smite.

Radiant Smite (1d20+9=15, 2d8+6=10)

Invisible Castle hates me.

Male Human Ranger 3

Nechtan moves to the near side of the dune, and hurls his axe at the same sniper again.

Can't access IC or the map at work. Move, Careful Strike 1d20+10=25 vs AC, 1d6+2=8 damage +1d8=6 for HQ.

Male Human Ranger 3

R29, please.

Nechtan's axe causes a nasty gash in the man's armour.

The marine attacked by Darvyl stands up and draws his sword but in a flurry, misses his slash against the young bravo.

The other marines surround Ddraig, forcing the sturdy dragonborn to the ground, his knees sinking in the difficult sand. The leader of the group throws his longbow to the ground, and with a leer, hefts a battleaxe and with a mighty swing Ddraig feels immense pain wash over him and he drops to the ground, his lifeforce ebbing away.

With a roar of triumph, the leader spits contemptuously at the ground.

Marine 1 misses Darvyl/ Marine 2 attacks Ddraig - Powerful Strike33 vs AC 15 damage, Ddraig knocked prone; Marine 3 Powerful Strike 30 vs AC 8 damage. Leader - drop longbow (free) draw battleaxe (minor) HQ Ddraig (minor) - Shadow Wasp Strike (standard) 23 vs Ref 2d10+7 damage = 17 + HQ = 5. Total damage to Ddraig 45HP. Ddraig is now on 0hP The leader gains an action point.

Chill Strike vs Marine 3. 17 vs Fort. hit. 20 cold damage. Marine 3 dazed until end of Grey's next turn.

Greylan cries, "No!" and runs down the beach, chanting wildly, before firing a bolt of purple energy. The magical attack smashes into one of the warriors and he cries out in pain.

>>>>MAP<<<<

Block 3 to go.

Male Halfling Bard 4

"Tha's going to regret bespittling friends o' mine." grits the halfling.

Male Halfling Bard 4

Stumbling over the beach, Healaugh tries to reach Ddraig with his powerful words. Move to P26.

"Coom on lad! Tha's faced worse and lived." Minor. Majestic Word on Ddraig who can spend a healing surge +4. Sliding him one square south.

"And tha, tha ... gurt fool..." he concludes feebly to the leader.
Vicious Mockery which will not be doing anything useful -
Vicious Mockery (Will) v Leader (1d20 6=14, 1d6 5=6)

Ddraig is conscious and prone. Ynyr and Darvyl to go.

Male Human Fighter 3

Seeing Ddraig's peril, Darvyl attempts to lure his opponent closer to the thick of the melee, but fails.

Move to P33 (no OAs with Pass Forward), attempt Footwork Lure and roll a 1. Combat challenge #1

Initiative Order:

Block 1
Ddraig 18 - prone
Nechtan 17

Block 2
Marines 13
Leader 13
Greylan 12

Block 3
Healaugh 4
Darvyl 4

Ynyr 11 DELAYING

Block 1's turn

Male Dragonborn Paladin, Level 4

Oww! I don't know - I look away for half a day ...

By the way - Ddraig actually went down as low as -14 HPs! 8 more and he'd have been dead!!!!!

Ddraig stands up and growls at the leader. "You will regret your impudence when I dispatch your soul into the netherworld."

Ok - firstly, I don't know whether my reinforcing plate armour enhancement (+1 to AC) applies from the time I take damage from a melee attack until the start of this turn, or whether it's applicable from now until the start of my next turn? The DM's views would be welcome! If it's from now, then my AC goes up to 23.

Ddraig uses righteous smite against the leader. Attack: 1d20+8 v AC; damage: 2d8+4.

Rolls: 16+8=24 v AC; 4+6+4=14 damage. Furthermore, as Ddraig is still bloodied, he deals an additional 2 damage = 16. In addition, Ddraig uses the daily power of his Deathstalker Longsword, to apply a further 5 ongoing necrotic damage (save ends, with a -2 penalty to saving rolls).

Note also that me and all allies within 5 squares of me gain 6 temporary hit points.

And there's more where that came from!!!

I can't see your current HP, or number of surges on your profile, which is why I thought you were on full. What are you on now? You hit in any case, and as an immediate reaction he makes a basic melee attack against you. And misses.

The burly warrior looks on in anger as Ddraig rises to join battle once more. And growls in pain as the dragonborn cuts him.

Fabes DM

Spoiler:
I'm currently on 16 hit points, with an additional 6 temporary. One more big hit like that, and it's curtains (possibly with the windows to boot!!!).

Male Human Ranger 3

Nechtan moves to aid Ddraig, and flanks his chosen sniper #2. Howling wildly, he flails with his claymore.

Fabes, I am away from any rolling method for 8-10 hours. If you would be so kind to do the honours...

Jaws of the Wolf (Daily) vs AC. 2 attacks: 1d20+10 (with flank). Each Hit: 2d10+5, +1d8 HQ. Each Miss: Half damage. Crit + 1d8

In a savage retaliation, Nechtan fells the enemy warrior.

Whoa.

Seeing the loss of his friend, the other seadog stabs Ddraig.

6 damage to Ddraig from No. 3

The leader of your foes snarls, and draws another axe. With savage fury he makes a passing slash at Ddraig, and another, and yet more. The mighty dragonborn knows no more as he totters like an oak and comes crashing into the sand of the beach. He does not move.

With no pause, and in a flurry of well-directed strikes, the berserker smashes into Nechtan.

Two Wolf POunce - shift to S31. 1d20+14 vs Ddraig 26 vs AC - 17 damage and 32 vs AC damage 15 damage; HQ damage 5 = total 37 damage to Ddraig I think that takes him to -21 HP - 1 point away from death!. Shift to R30. 25 vs AC, 19 damage to Nechtan. Action Point - Twin Strike 29 vs AC 5 damage and 15 vs AC miss.total damage to Nechtan 24 HP
