The Viridian Castle

Game Master Kristev

A mysterious green castle has started appearing at night on an island off the coast of Pelican Bay right about the same time that people began to disappear.

On the coastal shore of the ocean, there is a medium-sized harbor town known as Pelican Bay. And it is a peaceful place, save but for the odd shark attack, shipwreck, and pirate attack.

Yet lately, on the previously uninhabited island several miles off shore, a new green castle that wasn't there before can be seen at night. And with it, a strange green light that acts like a lighthouse, guiding sailors safely to Pelican Bay.

But no one has ever been able to find the strange new Viridian Castle in the daytime, nor has anyone dared at night.

And lately, more and more people have been disappearing from Pelican Bay. At first, nobody really cared, since it was derelicts. But now it's the mayor's sickly son who has vanished.

Mayor Durro has sent his elite squad to the island, yet they found nothing. So now he's got no choice but to pay, and pay a lot, for adventuring heroes to find his son and the other missing people and solve the mystery of The Viridian Castle.

The geography of Pelican Bay.

Since I've been unable to create a map and post it here, I've decided to just outright tell you all how Pelican Bay looks until I'm done.

Pelican Bay is actually a very large coastal town, like Amity Island in Jaws, but greatly expanded. The part of Pelican Bay that you will be concerned with, however, is rather small, because it is the ritzy part of the town. The very western edge of Pelican Bay has been declared the province of the upper crust.

To the east, the beginning of this ritzy section, we have two stores, Bunny's Beachbunny Beachwear, and across the wooden street from it, Wonder's Bazaar, which is a supermarket-department store admixture.

Slightly more westward than this, are twelve rows of privately owned houses, each of which belong to the upper crust, and a pair of restaraunts. The first is Ginny's Tonics, owned by a female gnome named Ginny, and it's the local bar and pub. Much closer to the houses is the actual real restaraunt, The Tiger Shark, where you can find almost anything to eat.

From there, you encounter the inn, Red Letter Night, and its two immediate neighbors, Jack's Casino and Elegance Theater. I forgot a jail, so while there is a very large one in the larger city where most prisoners ultimately end up, Jack's Casino has a temporary jail for people who commit crimes in this ritzy part of Pelican Bay until they can be transferred to the larger jail.

Continuing westward, you find moving up the street and upward from that first the hospital, and then Mayor Durro's Office, which is in the center of this section of Pelican Bay.

Up and eastward are the firepit and the anti-shark nets, which together mark the boundaries of the 'public' beach.

Going westward from that, beyond the Mayor's Office, are the Good As Gold Bank, and then the Church of Gozreh.

Southward from the drydock is the library, where all manners of books can be found, but the primary speciality of the library are books on the sea.

Southward from that, there is the Gifts From the Sea trading post, where the things that come in from the ships are sold, or more frequently, bartered.

Across the street westwardly from that is the Gemini, which is an expensive, fine-dining restaraunt. It's built half on the land and half on and under the sea. The top half, above water, is beautiful enough. But the bottom half has a gigantic picture window (and only three walls because of it) that allows diners to look at the ocean without ever getting wet . . .

Then, upward and slightly westward from that, there is the harbor, and the seaport and drydock, where ships and other things can be repaired for an extortive fee.

And finally, northwest, there is the island, with the castle, and the strange habit of growing plants.
