They say the region of Katapesh is a land of destiny - and truly you will encounter everything from the bizarre to the wonderful here. It is a land where one can make a name for himself or find her fortune, and so it is a land of adventurers. But be warned, stranger, for destiny has a dark side: she often keeps company with trouble.
Twenty years ago a battle market town known as Kelmarane fell. Theories regarding the circumstances that brought about its demise are as varied as the populace of Katapesh - mostly because no one has any idea what truly happened there. Oh, rest assured that someone knows, but that someone isn't inclined to speak on the matter.
But a short while ago, merely a few weeks past, a young woman came to the region and sought out the mysterious Pactmasters themselves. Almah Roveshki, of the famously wealthy Roveshki family, desired to reopen the town and bring it back under the control of the Pactmasters - for a modest fee, of course.
Upon gaining their consent for the venture, she and her *ahem* "friend," Garavel, gathered a hodge-podge caravan for the journey.
