Within a forest somewhere in the temperate regions of Galarion dwell six clans (DragonClan, GryphonClan, TurtleClan, GhostClan, SpiderClan, and BoarClan) of awakened cats. The cats themselves don't remember how they came to be awakened, or even know they ended up in the forest where they dwell. What they do remember is a strict code of that they live by.
Despite the code stating that having lovers outside the clan is not allowed, it seems that the clans all all touched by various outsiders and non-felines. Many of the cats are touched by celestial and fiendish blood, and some even show signs of dragon blood. Because of this touching certain cats can use magic. Of course they cannot read, and only those who use mage hand could write, so the instance of wizards among the clans is unheard of.
The clans live on some very nice lands that border on lands of less friendly creatures. To the west are a collection of goblins who have gained a taste for cat flesh, and find it funny to see a cat on fire. However the cats often found themselves able to easily take care of the goblin menace, all it took was to imitate the barking of a dog and the little menaces would run off.
However recently dark things have been stirring, and the clerics and oracles of the clans warn that unless something is done, the clans will face certain destruction.
