Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

On another thread people were discussing that James Jacobs would be in a straitjacket by 2011. What would be the escape and break DCs of a straitjacket.

Dark Archive

They have "hardness" 15, 30 hit points, and a break DC of 30.

escape artist 40

(i just used mithral manacles and upped the escape dc by 5)

Cool. Good that James is a 30th LV Publisher he should be able to make those DCs

Straight jackets aren't actually designed to keep people from escaping them. They are designed to keep the subject from hurting themselves. So escaping them isn't terribly hard, but not everyone can do it.

I would set the Escape Artist DC at 20, or 25 at max. Anyone who has a non-negative Dex modifier, or enough ranks in escape artist to counter their negative Dex modifier would then have a chance to do it. (With the DC at 20.)

If you put it at 20, then everyone who is average would be able to get out fairly quickly just by taking 20. I would not put it below a 25.

That was pretty much the point. Any average person can get out of a straight jacket, given enough time or a couple minutes of instruction.

The hardest thing about learning how to escape a straight jacket, is legally getting a straight jacket (in the US). Well, that and needing one other person to "do up" the straight jacket.
