It's the robot. I thought I had mentioned that in my briefing, but Auriel is only passingly acquainted with Earth technology.

Hey guys. I'm gonna bow out. I lost a friend earlier this month and I've had a hectic work schedule that hasn't lended itself to creativity or consistency. I don't want to hold up anybody else.

Thanks a lot for a great campaign and introducing me to RIFTs! Feel free to autopilot Jazz or put her on a bus to whatever extent you need to. Good luck and have fun guys. :)

I feel deeply unfulfilled that I contributed in no significant way to our most recent adventure.

Perhaps if I was a normal human in Robot Armor (NOT a glitterboy, I have ideas of my own) I would have been able to add something.

Hey, none of us contributed in a "significant way", since Auriel demanded a one-on-one battle (not dissing you, Auriel, just stating a fact). Even as a human in robot armor, I can't see that that would have made any difference.

Had it turned into a full-on combat, I'm sure Atlas would have been mowing foes down left and right.

Personally, I'm liking how you're playing the cyborg - he says the wildest things! :)

The interactions between Attie and Jonis are one of the best parts of this adventure for my part. For her Attie is not just a "killing machine", not she likes him because of his combat prowess, but it is a big part of the group!

Sorry, I didn't mean to exclude you Attie. How bout you take the next fight solo to make up for it =P

No no no, it wouldn't be the same. I can detect patronization and I'm repelled by it. If your character is just better than mine in both the tangibles and the intangibles then don't hold back on my account.

Had I been -in- a mech I at least would've been able to help Jonis in the chase.

And, yes, this is a fun character to play, but I can't help but keep thinking that a more normal human robojock could be just as fanatic while also more charismatic.

I'm not saying I wanna scrap the character now, but I'm just making note of a data point.

We can just keep going and see what the future holds.

A killer GM with a killer smile.

Hello everyone! I reached out to Shadowbloodmoon about joining your team and he gave me permission to pitch it to the group. He said you are wrapping up a story arch and that it might be a good time for an addition, so I should pitch a character and see what you might be in favour of adding to the group.

I'm playing in a Savage Rifts game with my real life group and have been surprised by how much I am enjoying it. I am one of those that never particularly liked Paladium Rifts due to the clunkiness and balance issues, but for some reason I'm loving the Savage Worlds version.

From what I can see the group is composed of the following:

Atlas the Combat Borg
Burgurk the Mind Melter
Auriel the Tattooed Man (web-based or home-made framework I'm guessing)
Gavryn the Cyber-Knight
Jazz the Techno-Wizard
Jonis the Glitter-Boy piloting Glitter-Girl.

I would imagine Face duties can be covered by Jonis and Gavryn.
Heavy Weapons will be covered by Jonis and Atlas.
Stealth and Infiltration is Auriel's specialty.
Technology is Jazz's deal (Coincidentally, my RL Savage Rifts character is also a Human Techno-Wizard with congenital growth issues; how random is that?)
Psionics is covered by Bulgurk and Gavryn.
Magic is addressed by Jazz.
Melee is covered by Aureal and Gavryn.

So what does that leave?

Seems like the team is lighter on Magic, maybe making a dedicated Magic type like a Ley Line Walker or Shifter a good addition. Mystics are also good for healing and such, but with much of their strength dedicated to Psionics, which is already well covered, who knows.

The group also seems to lack for transportation and air support, so perhaps an Operator with a vehicle (either ground or flying), or a Power Armour Pilot with a flying mech (like a Samas) might suit.

What do you think? If you wanted an addition to your group, what would help out the most?

First of all, I would welcome you joining our group.

As to group balance, I wouldn't worry about it too much, as it seems to really be a myth in Savage Worlds anyway.

Our current group is myself, Attie, Jonis, and Burgurk. So we have one melee character, a pair of ranged characters, and a psychic.

With that being said, however, I would really recommend that you play what you want. Party balance is kinda a myth in Savage Worlds anyway.

Hi Rigor!
I would love to have you join us.
BTW: Jonis is a Glitter Girl pilot. :P
Sadly Jazz and Gavryn have left, so a magic character would be very useful.

A killer GM with a killer smile.

So Gavryn and Jazz are not around any longer? I missed that when reading through the characters. Sure enough, Gavryn has not posted since April, and Jazz since September.

You are right, the "Ideal Party" is a myth in pretty much every game, but it can sometimes still be nice to hit all the highlights. It can sometimes make things easier for the GM too, as he/she can draw from more styles of storyline and not leave the party in a lurch since they have no x, y, or z (traps guy, arcane knowledge guy, or investigator guy being frequent ones).

All right, I'll give it some thought.

One thought I have been mulling over (as my backup character in my other game in case my main one bites it in the high-mortality world of Rifts) was an odd-duck Mystic who before encountering the party lived alone in the wilderness near Castle Refuge. His Mystic-required outlook would be one of preserving the natural order of things. Kind of like 'Survival of the Fittest' but not quite so arbitrary. Fitness could be illustrated by who they go to for help, or how good they are at trickery, not just the boring old "if you got hurt it must have been your fault outlook popular with Apocalypse in the old X-Men comics. A creature could be aided if they asked for help, but if not asked he could calmly watch badguys feed adorable puppies into a furnace without batting an eye. Revenge and Vindictiveness would be meaningless to him as he would believe that anyone who crossed him was simply acting as the predator in the Predator-Prey relationship at that time. Does a sheep hold a specific grudge against the wolf that ate his brother? No, he learns from his brother's mistake and endeavours not to be the one eaten next time. The next time he meets the same foe, he might still be prey, he might be predator, but what the two were in relation to each other the last time is irrelevant.

Anyway, it is something I thought might be fun to roleplay, and differs from the standard Code of Good or Vow of non-violence.

If that idea does not appeal, Cyber-Knights look pretty boss in this setting, and I've always enjoyed playing the straight out Paladin type as well.

Female Human Glitter Girl | Bennies 3 Wounds 0 Cha +4 Parry 5 | Normal: Pace 6 Tough 5 Notice d6 | On Glitter Boy: Size 3 Pace 10 Run d10 Swim 6 Wounds 0 Tough 29 (18 MDC) Notice d6+2 | Status: Normal

Jonis is known to fall for Cyber Knights :P

Your druid-esque Mystic would probably get along well with Attie, but he and Auriel would certainly clash (which isn't by any stretch of the imagination a bad thing, mind).

Male Simvan Mind Melter; Wounds 0, Bennies 3/3; Parry 5, Toughness 13(8); Heal d4, Intim d6, Notice d6, Shooting d8, Psionics d10; 70 ISP

A Mystic would definitely complement Burgurk, as all his Psionics is combat-based.

A killer GM with a killer smile.

Sounds like the Mystic idea works. I imagine the predatory outlook would mesh well with a Symvan's racial outlook as well. I'll see what I can come up with. Do we have any experience/Advances to work with, or still at raw starting stats?

I think we're still fresh off the boat, so to speak.

A killer GM with a killer smile.

Good to know. Another question for the GM; since Mystics are the only framework in Rifts that can automatically access the Shape Change power, are you using the Official ruling on Shape Change as it interacts with Born a Hero? If so, it is pretty much too good not to take. It's a bit cheesy, but then everything in Rifts generally is.

Savage Rifts RotRwT

We will use the official ruling, as it is Rifts and I have almost every book, I will be able to tell what is a mega creature and what is not. As for xp, I could have sworn I gave you guys 1 xp for each of the last two adventures, plus this one you are on will give you enough for a full advance. Let me check my notes when I return home.

Sorry, I was specifically answering the question about whether we had advances or not.

A killer GM with a killer smile.

I'm not as worried about the logistics as I am about the imbalancing effect it might have. I've not seen it in action in a game, but the ability of a Novice Character to change into Adult Flame Wind Dragon, even if it does take most of his PPE for the day, turns a character into a extremely heavy hitter, albeit briefly.

That's okay. I'm probably the weakest person here, offense wise, and our Glitter Girl and Team Robbit do obscene amounts of damage.

I am, of course, not the GM, but that is my opinion.

A killer GM with a killer smile.

No problem, if that's the call. Rifts tends to be like that, though fortunately I haven't found the Savage Worlds version to be quite as bad in terms of balance as the original. I honestly hadn't thought about Shape Change when I was thinking about the Mystic, so I'll have to think over whether I think it fits with the character or not. I may take Summon Ally instead, as the same ruling applies and Legendary summons would be on the table, and summons always have the nice touch of being disposable.

A killer GM with a killer smile.

Ok, time for my Heroic Journey Rolls:

Mystics gain three rolls on any of these tables: Enchanted Items & Mystic Gadgets, Experience & Wisdom, Magic & Mysticism.

Enchanted Items & Mystic Gadgets 1d20 ⇒ 20
Enchanted Items & Mystic Gadgets 1d20 ⇒ 1
Experience & Wisdom 1d20 ⇒ 15

They gain two more rolls on any table except Cybernetics.

Education 1d20 ⇒ 18
Magic and Mysticism 1d20 ⇒ 16

Results:

Enchanted Items & Mystic Gadgets 1d20 ⇒ 20
You may choose any one of the previous results.

Enchanted Items & Mystic Gadgets 1d20 ⇒ 1
Made of a wood unknown to most of the world, your character’s elegant staff is a powerful weapon and tool for magic work. The staff has 10 PPE (which regenerate at the same rate as the caster), grants a +1 to all spellcasting rolls for AB: Magic and AB: Miracles, and contains two spells (powers) of the player’s choice, which can come from any list. Finally, it’s a combat-worthy staff (Str+d6, Reach 1, Parry +1, twohanded) that even does Mega Damage if 2 PPE is channeled through it that round.

Experience & Wisdom 1d20 ⇒ 15
Life on the road, in the wilderness, and wandering the streets of the cities that remain gave your character special insight and some key experience with a particular calling. You may give her one Professional Edge, ignoring requirements, subject to the GM’s approval and it making at least some kind of sense.

Education 1d20 ⇒ 18
Either her parents did everything they could to educate her, she attended one of the few schools left in the world, or she might even have found and lived in an ancient library. However managed, she has five additional skill points to spend at character creation, but they may only be spent on Healing, Investigation, and Knowledge skills.

Magic and Mysticism 1d20 ⇒ 16
Conservation of magical energy is an incredibly powerful talent. On a raise or better when activating a power, your hero reduces the PPE cost by 1 (minimum 0).

Narrative Hook: 1d20 ⇒ 18

Hook result:
A Battle Beyond the Rifts. The Rifts go both ways in many cases, acting as portals to dimensions beyond the stars and, sometimes, beyond reason. For some cause or goal—or perhaps purely by accident—your hero wound up on one of countless worlds or planes of existence, caught in a battle for her life and maybe the fate of her home and everyone she cares about. On the other hand, maybe she is a native of that other world, and a battle she never expected pulled her into this place where she struggles to find her way, with the help of the Legion.

Gives me some good ideas for my character story. I'll start putting together an Alias.

Edit:

Forgot about my money roll:
2d4 ⇒ (2, 4) = 6
Ace!: 1d4 ⇒ 4
Ace!: 1d4 ⇒ 3
Total: 2 + 4 + 4 + 3 = 13000cr

So, we're down to just the 3 of us (which doesn't bother me, altho it might limit the DM's options for combats), Attie's player dropped out of all the games he and I are in together a couple of months ago with no warning.

What's happened to Rigor Rictus?

Savage Rifts RotRwT

Last post on that alias was the one just above. We may have lost him already. Other than a blurb to keep the story strong in there somewhere, I was going to presume Attie is out as well. I'm not worried about limiting combats, that's on me to make sure you guys don't get completely overwhelmed...

Short version? Life got busy. Daughter's birthday, Christmas, Anniversary, New years, my birthday, quit my job, starting a new one tomorrow, and surgery coming up at the end of February. I've been distracted. I'd still be interested if you still wanted me to join.

My character was actually done except for the fluff. General idea was a fallen demi-god that became relatively mortal when stranded on Rifts Earth. Her she is:
Shakti.

With the loss of Atlas, I don't know if the concept still fits with the group or not. Characters don't take me long, so I'd be willing to look at something else if more appropriate.

Savage Rifts RotRwT

Ah.. welcome back! Now to get you into Garnet Town. Shouldn't be too hard. Is the Shivan race in one of the books or is it one of your design? Keep in mind I don't look at the Savage Rifts Forums all that much...

A killer GM with a killer smile.

It is made up using the Race Creation rules in the Tomorrow Legion handbook. I had originally thought of playing a Rahu-man, which is a Paladium race, but not one yet converted to SW in any published source. However, once i tried to get it worked out, I discovered that not only was it very difficult to stat out a 15ft tall 4 armed race, it would be big, but not very tough. If you are going to be giant robot sized, you should probably be giant robot tough, and I was planning a mystic, which made that unlikely.

As a result, I made up this race, party inspired by the Rahu man, but with some more traditional South Asian elements.

If one or more elements don't work for you, let me know, and I can either rework that aspect, or pitch a new concept if it looks like the whole multi-armed mystic thing decides not to work.

Savage Rifts RotRwT

No, I was just curious for my records. I couldn't remember any of my Rifts books having such a creature, so I wanted to see if anyone else had done such a race. It looks okay and fairly balanced to me. The whole walking around with six arms will tend to throw most people off, even some 'mostly human' D-Bees... Now for the introduction. We're almost to a point for that to happen...

A killer GM with a killer smile.

Sounds good. Updated my origin story with a bit of what I had in mind for her background.

Basically she was the deity of a tiny pocket dimension. She could be considered an aspect of the divine Hindu, but being from such a small world, represented within herself the balance of the three major forces in that spiritual framework, creator, caretaker, and destroyer/recycler.

Hindu is one of those religions that had myriad interpretatons, but some of them do include composite/blended deities.

Shakti is sometimes used as a kind of genetic name that just means "goddess", though it can refer to a specific deity in some sects as well.

As a kind of balance/nature/birth/death/rebirth kind of figure, she's probably popped up in interactions with the Tomorrow Legion before, possibly both in positive and negative interactions.

I'll take a look at the gameplay forum to watch for my introduction.

A killer GM with a killer smile.

Read up on where the party is at present (the last 50 entries or so). Ironically, this type of situatiin is exactly the kind that Shakti's particular view on morality might come up; a youngster foolish enough to get separated from his heard is an easy lunch for the wolves (unless he's a wolf in sheep's clothing of course). Not that she's suggest violence against him, but she also wouldn't care if we just left him to fend for himself.

BTW, this is the picture I saw that kind of inspired this character.
