PART I: BENEATH THE WAVES

In the days when David ruled Jerusalem and the lands from the Euphrates to Tartessos in Spain, there was the Thallassian Empire and the Ys Kingdoms. Under the Mediterranean Sea and slightly beyond the pillars of Hercules from as far as northern Portugal to Sierra Leone -- and in the Mediterranean Sea from West of Carthage to Gibraltar was the borders of the Thallassian Empire where the merfolk dwell among sunken cities. Here the Empire of Triton and Calypso holds sway.
Around to the North among the Isles of Albu (the British Isles), and stretching from Scandinavia, to the coasts of denmark, Copenhagen, through the Channel and down in the Bay of Biscay lies the Feykith Kingoms of Ys. And deeper than both of them were the kingdoms of the fish folk known as the Sahuagin and the Pisceans.
Beyond the Thallassian Empire lays an expanse of uncharted ocean where mad explorers have said they found the Ancestral Land in the lands of Circe (the Azores) and tell wild tales of an Airbreather city of crystal beneath the spawning grounds of sperm whales. Tales crazier than that beyond the Expanse. The Seas to the West are uncharted, and the way is frought with danger; but what could lie beyond the Expanse? And who are the true Lords of the Deep?

PART II: Kingdom History
The Thallassian Empire was first formed during the time of Abraham when the ancient Kingdom of Onannes was destroyed by a seaquake in the Aegean Sea. Faced with the destruction of their kingdom, Triton and Calypso led the survivors of Onannes away from Thera to better territory in the west. It took two months of swimming and transporting their goods until they came to the land of Tartessos (Iberian Peninsula).
There they found many sunken cities from a forgotten age. A few of them were still liveable and were beyond the rock and inside the rock. Calypso and Triton finally led the people of Nereus to a town under the sea called Gades. Renaming it Thallassos, Triton and Calypso settled here and founded the first Thallassian Dynasty.
However, Triton and his people didn't know they were being watched. Keeping a discrete distance away, a group of people in submarines observed the Nerieds and their empire building. They were very discrete, they didn't want the sea people to know that they were being watched.
As the Empire grew, the people on the subs wanted to check the kingdom's growth, so they effectively used their power to implant into the minds of their religious leaders thoughts that the oceanic expanse was too dangerous to explore. And so, the growth of the Thallassian Empire was held in check.
Now its the days of King Solomon and the Phoenicians have expanded their influence above the waves, and many Thallassians have begun to get anxious to explore what was beyond the expanse. For years, they were told: "THAR BE DRAGONS!" But one cannot suppress the need to explore for so long. The Thallassians either must expand or the kingdom will self destruct. But first, there are problems at home that needs to be dealt with.

PART III: THALLASSIAN SOCIETY
Gades is ruled by King Triton the IV, son of Aristomache IX, who was the daughter of Proteus, who was the son of Aristophanes III, and so on to Triton and Calypso. King Triton is an ineffectual ruler, the result of inbreeding of sea folk Royalty. It wouldn't be so bad that even King Triton has a streak of Megalomania. Unable to make his people slaves to him, King Triton wishes to become a god. He is drunk with sea wine and drunk with sorcery and magic. He is looking for a way to become one of the song dragons.
The Priesthood hasn't been very free minded either. Once, Thallassian religion was just a way to attain spirituality and oneness with God, it has now become monolithic as the people have become burdened with commandments that take the spirit out of Religion. The Thallassian Empire is suffering from internal problems. The priesthood preaches against expansion, and the Empire is ruled by a megalomanic that is looking to become one of the dragons. The empire is in trouble of toppling and may split down the middle as the Mediterranean Thallassians do not like what the Atlantic Thallassians are doing.
