I have spells for sneaking; it'll be fine.

Hey GM, just saw the thread. When are submissions closed? I plan to submit with an updated version of this character; some friends and I were in a Bonewatch game that lost our GM, and I imagine some of them will apply with adjusted/updated versions of their characters as well.

As this is a homebrew, it doesn't get the kind of traction that a AP gets as far as submissions, I will probably keep it open through the weekend or until I feel I have my squad.

Golarion-based homebrew games have, in my experience, been some of the best. I'm excited to get my submission in, I'll have it ready as soon as my cohort(s) and I figure out our joint application.

This is one of Grimold's once and future comrades. We'll have something together presently.

Welcome the recruitment!

Does anyone have any questions about the setting. Or about their builds?

Hmm; bet I could offer some setting questions.

-Who is leading the orcs?
-Is it just the orcs, or are there other races/factions involved?
-Who is leading the Bright Crusade? How are they funding it?
-Are there any Crusade-allied factions in the region? Dwarves, neighbouring countries?
-Are goblins involved in any way, shape or form? Hobgoblins?
-You said the Bright Crusade was 'holy'; is there a particular deity associated with it? Iomedae?
-I believe the Giantslayer AP takes place within/near Belkzen. While I haven't read the AP, do you think any of it will come up? Will there be factions/characters in the AP that might be present in this setting and be affected by your campaign?
-Is there going to be any moral ambiguity to the campaign, or will it be fairly straight forward 'ALL GREENSKINS MUST DIE'?

Yes thank you for the questions!

1. Grask Uldeth is the mighty orc chieftain of the Empty Hand tribe of the Hold of Belkzen, which currently controls the ancient dwarven Sky Citadel of Urgir.

Unlike many orc warlords, Uldeth is surprisingly accommodating to foreigners in Urgir, likely because he has come to realise that wealth from trading with non-orcs is more profitable than simple raiding. This progressive thinking has been regarded as somewhat 'effeminate' by many orcs, but the wealth it has provided cannot be denied.
Although semi-civilized, Uldeth is rightly feared as being the most powerful warlord in the Hold of Belkzen.

But there have been whispers that other darker powers are at work in Belkzen.

2.There are. While some are going to be discovered in game. There are ogres and giants in the belkzen hold as well as abundance of dangerous animal and plant life including Megafauna.

3. Watcher Lord Ulthun the 2nd. A 26 year paladin of Iomedae. They crusade has seen an influx of supporting wealth from Avistan and Ustalav. As they are the most in danger should the walls fall.

4. While not a part of the crusade, sympathetic to the cause are the dwarves in the Mindspin mountains to the west and if you are a dwarf this is most likely where you are from. Ustalav is allied and they have their own wall though it is abandoned and in horrible repair. Only symbolic really as it stands only waist high.

5. Orcs do not tolerate the freedom of goblinoid races. If there are any in Belkzen, they have long since been enslaved and their communities wiped out.

6. The primary deity of the crusade is Iomedae but all good aligned worshipers are in the ranks. Particularly Erastil and Sarenrae, though worshipers of Desna, Sheylen, and Torag can be found to a lesser extent.

7. Yes the danger to the free town of Trunau is extreme at this moment.

8. There will be moral ambiguity. But for the most part, Orcs are CE and hellbent on destruction and warfare. But things of a moral nature will arise.

Hmmm.... Dot.

Is Daen coming...? O_o

As much fun as he is, it is weird to play the same character in two different games at the same time. I have a few other ideas, so I'll see what comes up. Although it would be tempting to build him under these rules...

Keep Grimold and I posted! :) I was saying to him earlier, given the way things seem to have gone given this campaign's premise, when I ask myself the question, "Well what happened to the other folks we knew back in the days of TLV," I'm pretty sure I don't like the answers...

More progress being made. I have pretty much equipment and maneuvers to choose. And background to actually put on the screen.

DM, the character I'll be submitting is a half-orc who came from the Burning Sun tribe of orcs (an "odd duck" sort of tribe, that worships Sarenrae), that were mentioned in th Belkzen book. If there's anything you'd need to talk to me about, I'm all ears.

Hi DM, This is another of Grimold's former companions. May take a little work to alter Kassie but I'll give her another go - she was lots of fun!

Grimold, what if Zohruk was the only one to get kicked out back then? I was the only one they caught in the sub-basement, and I didn't give you up when they got me.

Chew on it.

Dang, three out of five of the old gang are playing their old characters, I better update Daen now. He should be pretty good at 5th level with these options.

Hey DM, if my magus is a bit of a crafter say wands and Scrolls, can I use crafting prices for those kinds of utility items, or should I just purchase them with proper WBL?

Also, should or can I make or purchase some half done wands to show how things have been used in the past?

You're not gonna go schizoid, what with two Daens? :)

Stat-wise, Zoh is a Warder (Dervish Defender) 1/unRogue 4 (I'm undecided if he'll keep the Rake archetype he had in Last Vigil). I'll post a stat block tonight.

I'm pulling out of the running. Good luck to applicants!

Purchase them proper at start. Craftable In Game. you can purchase reduced charges though to show use if it makes sense for your character.

Zoh, that angle could work. In that case, maybe Kassie, Daen, and Grimold are/were still in the Bonewatch. Since Daen is applying with his magus build, I'll stay Steelfist Commando or throw in some levels in a divine spellcasting class since Eilidh isn't applying. I'll be sure to have an updated sheet up tomorrow at the latest.

GM, can you shed any light on what the dire situation is? Has Vigil fallen? If the city and the Bonewatch is fine, then perhaps Kassie, Daen, and Grimold are now low-ranked Knights of Ozem, either stationed around Lastwall or recalled from foreign missions for the Bright Crusade.

I want to reserve some of the description for in game thematic awesomeness. But no Vigil has not fallen.

And you guys could be low ranked knights of Ozem.

I was invited to peek in by Zoh.

(Daen, you know me a Cyanne in another universe.) What are you looking for in this party? Grimold is already a bard. I love bards and oracles but could come in as an urban bloodrager if you need more fighting prowess then spells.

Story wise, I'm coming in paired with Zoh. We'd been working on a backstory together for something else.

What do you all need?

Oh... as a player, I spin story, move plot and am a very consistent poster who interacts with the whole party.

To this new group. Are you guys an all or nothing joint submission. Meaning if I don't take all of you, you aren't interested?

I've got arcane spells, skills, crafting, and ranged damage covered.

I'm new to the Last Vigil group. I didn't play with the others in that game though both Daen and Zoh know me. If you have to drop someone so that they can play together it should be me.

The Last Vigil group has incredible chemistry and were all a pleasure to read as well as having some familiarity with the setting. They'd be an awesome choice.

Wouldn't be right not having half of "Half & Half", now would it, 'Taj? For what my vote counts for, you count.

DM, we haven't had a chance to talk about this. Can we get back to you soon?

(Daen, Kassie, Grimold: PM me and we'll discuss, or just hash it out here, your calls)

Ok, so I've worked out what I can do with Kassie, can't update my sheet at the mo tho
Ugh cause I'm on my iPad and it would take too long and be way to fiddley.

For the old gang,mi think we need to answer some questions:

How long since the last game is this?
What happened to Allie?
How did training go?
What have we been doing since?

...and probably lots more.

I'm happy to hash out the all-or-none question here.

Kassie, my own two cents are that we stand or fall together. But, I'll also abide by te consensus if folks feel the other way.

All-or-none also seems most fair to the other players. We don't need to clutter the space here; a separate thread would be better. I can get one up in a couple of hours and post the link here unless somebody else gets to it before me.

DM, what's your stance on custom weapon design, as per the Weapon Master's Handbook?

If you go all-or-none, may I be part of your party? I could come in as an oracle, taking that divine caster spot.

TLV Scrubs, discussion thread is right here. I'm all for Rataji joining our party submission.

DM, thanks for giving us the opportunity to submit like this. Re-reading the original post, what the heck is going on with Gallowspire?!

Sorry for not posting here. I've been around, but I'm having trouble thinking up a complete backstory. I know some elements, i.e. cleric, faithful, female, from Qadira, I even have her name down.

They're all just superficial details though, not really anything that makes up a character. Ehh. I think I'll do a stream of consciousness thing, see if I can't get some ideas for the character flowing.

stuff:
Hmm. Maybe I've been reading too much Worm, I keep coming back to Purity, but cribbing her character would empathically not work, and besides, I don't think I'd be comfortable playing someone like her.

So... I think if I just write something that fits into the mold I've already got, it'll probably turn out superficial. I need a base concept of sorts, to build her personality on. So. Speaking of Worm, we could crib that basic pattern. People might be good, but they have problems, and heroes in particular are, at their core, broken people. You could say they're broken in interesting ways, and that makes them interesting characters.

So, a goal: What's wrong with Sabah? How is she weak? Obviously, characters can't be strong in everything. Then they get boring, like superman. Of course, having a weakness just to have weakness makes it tacked on - it gives a little depth, but I honestly don't know what to give her. Her Int is low, so maybe she's insecure about her wit, but probably not. She's from Qadira, and if it wasn't faux-middle eastern, but actual middle eastern I could do something with her role as a warrior woman, maybe make her gay, but given Golarion, that's not really relevant.

What to do... Maybe her strength is her weakness? She's a capable warrior, but certainly not an outstanding one. Her strength flows from her cleric levels, from her faith in Sarenrae. How is that a weakness? It could be that she's overzealous, blind in her faith, but no, that's cliché. She's not blinded by faith; in this aspect, she is well-balanced.

But... Divine strength isn't intricent - her power is not her own, but flows from her deity, and that power is certainly greater than her. Maybe big enough to get lost in.

That's it. When she uses her divine magic, she enters a trance-like state, where, the more power she channels, the less of her own identity she retains. It's not that what's left is evil or anything, it's just... harsh, stark, maybe; not her. The battle-aspect of Sarenrae, if you will. Sort of how jedi might pour too much of themselves into the force, in star wars.

Hmm. So why is she okay with that? Maybe she doesn't really like being Sabah. Maybe it's how she copes with life-threathening situations, or an escape from an identity she's unsatisfied with.

Maybe she views it as a neccesary sacrifice to change the world.

Probably a bit of both. More of the first starting out, but as the goal of the Shining Crusade starts becoming more demanding, she'll lean on her faith more and more for power, and, even as she gets more well-adjusted being herself, she'll get more willing to sacrifice that in order to accomplish her goal, and save as much of the land as she can, even if it means that's all that's left of Sabah is a shell, brimming with Sarenrae's light.

Yeah. I think that's good. I'll figure out why she doesn't like her life later.

Would be interested. Wondering if applying is worth it considering this all-or-nothing group. Please advise.

cheers

There's a good half-dozen individual submission outside of the four packaged players.

I'd give them good odds. Their characters were made for a prior lastwall pbp it seems, presumably one that fell apart, and apparently they have an extant group dynamic that was fun to play.

That said, personally I'm definitely going to be applying anyway. I want to see where Sabah is headed, and the campaign premise is interesting.

DM Malleus said he liked linked backstories, so that's a point against.

Also, there's six or so other people applying. You'd certainly not be alone with it, and other people would be in the same boat as you too.

GM, how many people are you looking for?

Also, what do you want for character backstory, personality details, etc so that you can get a good feel for what the applicants have to offer?

More questions for the GM:

Will there be background skills? I almost hesitate to ask on this one, since you're so generous in other aspects of character building.

Also... With regards to WBL -- are we talking standard WBL for a 5th level character = 10K, or are we talking adjusted WBL for the automatic point buy, which would be 5K?

WBL is unadjusted, so 10,500gp at creation

Uggg. Piazo ate my post :(
So this is just a very quick dot until I can get to my computer and do something better.
My idea is to re-build a character from before (that way I already have his personality fleshed out). He will be an Elan Psion (Nomad).
His main gimmick is teleport ing everywhere and he is quite flighty and excitable.

Thank you, Johnny Cat!

Also, Jubal, I think you should apply. Our group may not be what the GM wants. I see a lot of great characters here.

I might. Want to hear from the GM.

It would be great to get a summary of applicants and what roles they play.

cheers

For the individual applicants, I've seen these be submitted so far:

Player: GM Arkwright Character: Elo Parvanovitch, Half-elf Magus (White-haired Witch)

DM, our group is very nearly finished. Most of us have finished our builds/sheets, and now we're just settling on formatting our application(s).

Here is my submission for this game, Joshua Jericho. He is an archer.

INDIVIDUAL SUBMISSIONS

  • Hi there,

Grimold informs me that the other members of our submission will be posting shortly, and it's well after midnight here, so I'm going to post mine now. (Stats are in the alias' profile.)

Name: Zohruk, of the Burning Suns
    Race: Half-orc
Class: Warder (dervish defender) 1/Rogue (unchained, rake) 4

    Appearance:
Zohruk is about 6ft 2in and 220 lbs, with a physical build that mostly takes after his human heritage save for more orcish facial features and skin tone. He wears his hair long and pulled back, and from time to time sports a closely cropped beard (an attempt to fit in with a more human look). A complex series of tattoos are inscribed on Zoh's forearms (various twisting patterns of serpentine scales and feathered wings) and over his heart (a winged serpent, coiled around a sun with its wings folded around it protectively). He wears a copper medallion, examination of which with a DC 10 Knowledge (religion) check would reveal it to be a sun disk with some features similar to certain iconographies of Sarenrae.

    Personality:
The chip Zohruk had on his shoulder when he first came to Vigil has mostly disappeared with the end of training and the beginning of his career as a Knight of Ozem. He has tried to temper his smart mouth, but he still can't resist mouthing off at in appropriate times. He knows it's a big world out there, and is just so slightly cocky enough to think he'll be able to tackle anything it throws at him.

    Notes:
The character is currently equipped with a pair of starknives. If custom weapon design (from Weapon Master's Handbook) is permitted, Zohruk might very well sport something else a little more "orcish."

    DM, thanks for your consideration.

    Zohruk

DM, here's my submission for Grimold. The statblock in the profile is incomplete; I don't have HeroLab so I'm formatting it all by hand. There is a link to the sheet hosted on Myth-Weavers accompanying it. Below the individual character portion of my submission is a short re-cap bridging the events of The Last Vigil and this campaign. The other members of our group should be posting in short order; Daen, Kassie, and Rataji are the ones we're waiting on.

From the files of Andabar Cerban, Commander of Castle Overwatch

    Name: Rolando ???, alias Grimold
    Race: Human, ethnically Varisian
    Class: Warlord (Steelfist Commando) 5

    Appearance:
Swarthy skin tone, typical of Varisians. Green eyes, black hair worn at shoulder-length. Distinguishing birthmark on left shoulder-blade.

    Personality:
Boisterous and non-conformist. Often in violation of uniform dress code. Fiercely loyal to his comrades, but may harbor unseemly sympathies with the Varisian criminal class. Takes unnecessary - occasionally borderline suicidal - risks, possibly as a matter of religious observance; prominently worships Desna.

    Notes:
Rolando, or Grimold as he is known, is perhaps the most interesting modern test case for the total efficacy of our training procedures. His appoinment to the Bonewatch was a complete anomaly; if it weren't for the intervention of Eilidh Tilernos, he would have ended imprisoned, and most likely executed or otherwise killed. But, as a personal favor to the Tilernos family, the Bonewatch took in a half-drowned gutter rat and made a Knight out of him. Along with the strange case of the half-orc Zohruk, we've had the most unlikely graduating class on the books since the start of the Fourth Crusade. But perhaps it was more than "Desna's smile" that brought Grimold to us that day. His natural abilities, of the sort common to street criminals and rarely seen among our typical recruits, lend themselves well to the kind of war we find ourselves in the midst of just beyond our borders. They, and we, have proven that the Knights of Ozem truly have a place for Grimold and Zohruk and those like them. Theirs is to be a quiet vigil, a a covert war of intrigue and investigation, hidden among our enemies who they so closely resemble. It is with full confidence that I submit Rolando for Knighthood and recommend him, along with the rest of Cohort One, for assignment in Ustalav.

    ========================================================================

    The story thus far:

Daen, Kassie, Eilidh, Grimold, and Zohruk successfully completed their training at the Bonewatch, which culminated in a comprehensive final trial. Only by successfully foiling a fake plot culminating in a full-scale mock attack on the Bonewatch did they prove their worth and ascend to Knighthood. As a unit, they were sent to Ustalav to aid in the ongoing mission to uncover and thwart all plots threatening Lastwall, especially those that would seek to free the Whispering Tyrant.

During their time in Ustalav, Eilidh went missing and Zohruk was recalled for reasons unknown. Mere months later, the remaining three would be called back to Vigil as well. Something drastic has shifted the ancient lines of battle on the Belkzen front, presenting new threats - and new opportunities.

The new assignment affords the team a reunion with Zohruk, who introduces them to Rataji, a civilian asset to replace their missing comrade. With a new ally in tow, the squad makes haste for the Belkzen frontier. What new threats lie ahead of them in the blood-soaked badlands? Will they be able to turn the tide of war? And will they ever discover the truth about Eilidh's disappearance? Only time will tell. This is their story. This is... The Last Light.

Jubal, go ahead and make a submission.

ATTENTION ALL. CONSIDERING THE SUBMISSIONS AND MY REAL DESIRE TO HASH OUT THIS CAMPAIGN TO ITS FULLEST.

I WILL BE TAKING TWO TABLES, ONE SELECTED FROM INDIVIDUAL APPLICANTS AND ONE COMPRISED OF THE GROUP SUBMISSION.

I will get the group submission game thread rolling as soon as they are ready.

For everyone else Submission Deadline Is Thursday Feb 4th. Selections announced Thursday night or Friday depending on how the reviewing goes.

Personnel file, for immediate consideration of assignment to Belkzen

Name: Rataji aka "Taj" aka "The Resourceful". NTB: Our research indicates surnames not commonly used amongst those of the Mwangi.
Race: Half-elf of Mwangi descent, raised in a dozen different nations.
    Class: Spirit Guide Heavens Oracle

    Physical Decription:
Petite (5'2, 124 pounds.) Chocolate brown skin, large dark almond shaped brown eyes, curling dark brown hair. Ears: small for a half-elf. Appears to take primarily after human side of heritage. No noticeable birthmarks or scars. Teeth: surprisingly white and even, quite noticeable when she smiles. Always looks like she has a joke that she wants to share with the rest of the class.

    Personality:
Quirky sense of humor, strong will, tendency to bad puns. Well-spoken. Diplomatic background. Appears to have some resentment towards both parents and abandonment issues. Claims to constantly "intermediate amongst the merry chorus of mad ancestors" that haunt her. Given Mwangi cultural inclination to ancestor worship, this may be merely a representation of Polyglot religious beliefs. Or it may be tied to some other occult phenomena we have yet to verify.

    Notes:

Civilian asset (caster specialist) attached to Belkzen Strike Force that includes Daen Aheritor, Kassara "Kassie" Tilernos, Grimold, and Zohruk of the Burning Suns. Is rumored to have a psychic bond linking her to another member of the team, Zohruk. Potential ties to Aspis Consortium through father and stepmother, but estranged from both. Has a pet monkey and an ever shifting set of abilities and spells. Allegiance to Vigil as yet unverified, but appears to have strong allegiance to her team.

As the newcomer, Taj provides the ability for the whole team to introduce themselves in gameplay despite their long history.
