Mathus Kohlheim |

Mathus leads the way to the Laughing Demon.
[b]Famished doesn't begin to cover it. We should eat heartily because I suspect we have other things to do this night.

![]() |

Yes, definitely still in progress. My personal life has taken a hard left, lately.
The Laughing Demon is a bit crowded, but you manage to find a table. Zokar himself comes to take your requests. "Well met, my friends. How does this eve find you?

Mathus Kohlheim |

In need of sustainance Zokar - we don't want to put poor Kendra out.
He orders and then asks for a meal to be prepared for Kendra to take away at the end of the meal.
Whats news around town Zokar? It seems like forever since we laid poor Petros at rest

Mathus Kohlheim |

We plan to visit a certain clue of Petros' tonight - coffee may well be in order Lorant and we'll need to cover our activities well.
Mathus orders a hearty meal as well as Lorants suggested coffee and a second serving of the same.

![]() |

Zokar brings your meals without comment, but gives a broad smile.

Cassiel Hawke |

Cassiel accepts his meal and starts digging in.
"So, uh... what's the plan for tonight? How are we going about doing this?" He whispers, feeling a bit guilty.
Not sure if Iomedae has anything specific to say about robbing the dead, even if it IS for a good cause...

Mathus Kohlheim |

Mathus speaks sotto voice.
We need to at least check it out. I am a dutiful son of the church but Petros' words intrigue me - lets get it done tonight and be done with it.

Meenak the Weird |

Meenak has tagged along quietly, as if lost in thought. He doesn't even seem bothered by Kibbi's prattling. As they find a table, he take shelter below, still unusually silent. As the conversation of investigating the crypt comes up though, he finally pops up.
"Meenak will go." he stated simply, looking around at the others. "Meenak is a kobold. We are quiet and good at sneaking past things. Meenak may need a lookout, but someone must remain and watch out for Professor's hatchling. It is there... Meenak knows it. Meenak swore to get revenge on Whispering Way, and Grimy Barrows is not going to stop him. Nobody will."

Lorant Endronil |

Lorant sips his coffee and lowers his voice.
"I'll go with you. I've sharp eyes in the dark and if someone does arrive, I can say I'm there for prayer and contemplation."

Absolutely, if everyone is through RPing. I'll try to keep things moving, but if I move ahead and there was still RP to be done, feel free to enclose it in a "Flextime" spoiler.
Midnight, not a sound from the pavement.
The Professor's journal leads you to the northeast corner of the Restlands, near the junction of the paths known as the Eversleep and the Black Path. The crypt itself is a freestanding granite mausoleum, the roof of which is decorated with a pair of leering gargoyle statues. A single stone door with a rusty-looking lock is embedded in the south face.

Mathus Kohlheim |

Mathus examines the lock carefully before deciding how best to pick the lock.
Take 20 + 4 + 1 vs Traps.

Lorant Endronil |

Lorant sighs a bit as Mathus works. He rubs his hands together and stretches a bit keeping an eye out for people who might get suspicious.
This is not a good idea... he thinks to himself.
If we're caught it'll sink any possible goodwill we could earn from this town.

Lorant Endronil |

"Welcome to Ustalav, Cas. Welcome to Ustalav. Has a bit more variety than Vigil, though. That was all statues of angels and knights and angel-knights," Lorant replies.

Within the vault, a flight of stone steps leads down into the cold earth to a large crypt lined with empty niches--no dead are interred here, though Church records report that this crypt was once of the first filled in Ravengro's early days.
Cassiel Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
Lorant Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18 (low-light vision, darkvision)
Mathus Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
Meenak Perception: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (2) + 0 = 2 (darkvision)

The crypt is a 30-foot square chamber with a statue of Pharasma centered on the left and right walls. On the far wall from the entrance, there are two stone doors. One to the right and the other left of center.

Mathus Kohlheim |

Mathus goes to the right door and checks it for traps (taking 20 so 25 total) and then the other that is left of center.

Lorant Endronil |

Lorant takes point, his eyes darting about the room, seeing clearly in the darkness. He whispers quietly to the others.
"Keep your voices down. We don't want to be caught. Pharasma forgive us."
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10

Cassiel Hawke |

Cassiel doesn't say a word, looking around as Lorant does.
Perception?: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
Lady Iomedae, I'm not entirely sure if you have strict rules regarding graverobbing, but please understand that this is a matter of grave importance.
His eyes widen and he groans a bit.
...oh, gods. At least I didn't say that out loud.

![]() |

Neither door proves to be trapped (so far as Mathas can tell, anyway).

![]() |

Mathus pushes the right door open. There is a grinding noise of stone on stone as the portal is opened. You note that both doors open into what appears to be an antechamber. The room is 30 feet wide and ten feet deep. A darkened set of stairs lead downward on the opposite wall.

![]() |

It is difficult to tell, but it seems that a faint trail goes down the steps.

![]() |

Meenak, you see nothing that could be causing the noise.
From here, lets go to the map.

![]() |

Botting Mathus...
Mathus moves forward, down the stairs. As he enters the lower portion of the tomb, a pair of giant centipedes scuttle from the shadows!
The grid is off a little on the map, but we'll work around it.

Mathus Kohlheim |

Mathus runs across the room and climbs up on the tomb, putting him up and away from the centipedes

Lorant Endronil |

Lorant advances to reinforce Mathus, his keen eyes seeing fine in the dark.
Are there any light sources in the area? Not that he NEEDS them, I ask mostly because I think it'd be cool if his eyes reflected light like a cat. :3
