PvP Dueling in Alpha 8: How to do it and where to find your challengers (hint: its right here!)

Pathfinder Online

Nihimon and I had some good fun last night dueling, and we developed a simple ad hoc system for killing each other without killing each other’s rep.

We chose the river bed just south of Thorn Keep (past where the water ends) as our battleground (henceforth known as “the Battleground”).

Basic Guidelines for Engagement
1. The character with the highest reputation hits the character with the lowest reputation twice. Use a weak attack!

2. Both characters back up to the agreed upon distance. I recommend ~40 meters for long range, ~25 meters for short range, and ~10 meters for melee.

3. Both players wait until they are at full HP and Stamina again.

4. The challengED declares the start of the duel when they are ready.

5. Victory occurs when one character is down. It is worth noting that killing the other character is optional (unless you kill them outright with the last blow). At the two player’s discretion, they may wish to have a 3rd party cleric on hand with cure light. At the least, this will save the loosing player damage to their equipment. This might also save the winning character damage to their reputation. However, an official player kill will not be scored by the game. (Another option, if you plan on only using one weapon during the fight, is to slot a divine focus with cure light as your secondary for in the event that you win.)

How to Use This Thread
1. People who are willing to be challenged, post below with the character names that are available for dueling.

2. Challengers, PM the person you would like to challenge.

Final Guidelines
1. Challenges can be declined for any reason and no reason need be given for the declination.

2. Duels can be terminated at any point up to the official start of the duel. Once it is on, it is on!

3. Declaring what weapons you will be using is up to yall.

4. Duels must be consented to by both parties. Other than this, and the rules on how to use this thread, any and all of the above guidelines can be thrown out the window at the two players’ discretions.

All participants accept, unconditionally, that massive reputation loss and item damage are a possibility. (That said, if you are dueling someone with a very high reputation, and you win, you may want to keep them from dying, if possible….)

This is strictly Friendly, Fun and Free! And a Friendly, Fun and Free way to settle old scores :)

If someone is willing to help organize it, we might could host a tournament on the last day of Alpha before EE beings :)

It would be really, really awesome if we could get a simple /flag command that would make use consequence-free kills. It doesn't need to operate any differently than the current flagging system, it just needs to apply the Aggressor or Murderer Flag (whichever is simpler, really).

I would love to spend an evening practicing PvP with various builds, but don't want to tank my Reputation to do it. I was fortunate in that I was able to lose Reputation twice with Sspitfire and stay above 0 Rep.

Ideascale - Allow us to flag ourselves without losing Reputation

It helped that my rep went down from 7500 to 900 after merely attacking someone so high and mighty as the great Nihimon :)

It is worth noting that killing you twice after you flagged yourself only cost me 200 reputation.

My character "Trainer" is available for challenges! He has basic competency in Spell, Sword and Shortbow.

I'm surprised it cost you any Reputation at all.

I'll let the fact that you're subtly gloating about killing me twice go :)

lol Or we could just make it a third time later ;) To be fair, though, I can't talk about the rep loss effect without talking about its context. Also, to be fair, you did lag on one of those kills.

Well, I can either reliably kill you, or I can test new builds. I chose to test new builds :)

I think we need these matches to be taped. Let's place bets.

Kinda hard to do that when there is only one contender on offer and no one is PM'ing him ;)

I think we have reliably established that you can reliably kill me after I have reliably killed you for a few rounds first ;) Score 1 for Adaptability

(Edit: I have new goodies to test on you whenever you feel up to it.)

Sure. You should join me on TS so I can stream audio and video :)

I'll look into it ;)

Oh yeah, I'll toss this out there and maybe goad some people into challenging me:

I am the best archer in the game until someone proves otherwise. Period. End of story. Deal with it.

EDIT: Typing while sleep deprived is dangerous.

Consequence free dueling in unclaimed tower hexes or tower hexes with open PvP windows!
