When they first found Kal Tyrgen, he was a savage warrior, fighting with the Blacktalon tribe in the forests of Kashyyyk. Though human, he was one of them; barely twenty and fighting as an equal against the droid army in the most savage wookiee tribe to come from the deep forests.
When word got back to Coruscant, Anikos Tyrgen flew immediately to Kashyyyk. He had thought that his brother’s family had been lost in the freighter crash eighteen years ago, but there he was, his brother’s son; Kal a noble savage who stands to inherit a fortune and a transport empire.
The road to Kal’s reintegration into human contact and society was a long, arduous and expensive exercise, costing Anikos almost half of his late brother’s company to do so, but finally, Kal stood once more as a man, and a true human in control of his emotions and desires.
When the Republic became an Empire, there were many who celebrated; the Tyrgens were invited to a gala reception at the former chancellor’s palace.
To celebrate the birth of empire, the first emperor had organised all manner of entertainment to entice allegiance from the influential families of Coruscant. It was with horror that Kal watched as wookiee slaves battle to the death in a makeshift arena.
As the crowd cheered the bloodsport, Kal quietly left.
He quietly returned to the Tyrgen estates, taking some personal belongings along with a ceremonial bowcaster given to him by Zaarbacca, chief of the Blacktalon and one of the wookiees to die in the arena battle he had just witnessed.
Kal now works from the shadows, using the urbane skills and psychological conditioning paid for by his uncle as a tool and a weapon to overcome and fight slavery wherever he sees it. He is especially devious when wookiee slaves are involved.
Although his warrior skills have been denied to him, Kal practices with his bowcaster until he becomes proficient with its use again. When that day arrives, he will begin a war against slavery that will be unstoppable.
Kal has left Coruscant on the Dreamer's Journey enroute to Sel Zonn station, where he has heard of rumours regarding Wookiee slaves. Finding a berth in Cabin 167C in the aft-section of the freighter, Kal idly plays sabacc with the other passengers, listening for any leads.
Kal still dreams of Kashyyyk, running and hunting on the forest floor, sleeping in the trees and of his wookiee name; Rkaar.
