Patron Strength
Witch's Familiar (Ex)-

Spoiler:
At 1st level, when a witch gains her familiar, she must also select a patron. This patron is a vague and mysterious force, granting the witch power for reasons that she might not entirely understand. While these forces need not be named, they typically hold influence over one of the following forces.

At 2nd level, and every two levels thereafter, a witch's patron adds new spells to a witch's list of spells known. These spells are also automatically added to the list of spells stored by the familiar. The spells gained depend upon the patron chosen. Each patron is listed by its theme. Its actual name is up to the GM and the witch to decide.

White Hair (Su)-

Spoiler:
At 1st level, a white-haired witch gains the ability to use her hair as a weapon. This functions as a primary natural attack with a reach of 5 feet. The hair deals 1d4 points of damage (1d3 for a Small witch) plus the witch’s Intelligence modifier. In addition, whenever the hair strikes a foe, the witch can attempt to grapple that foe with her hair as a free action* without provoking an attack of opportunity, using her Intelligence modifier in place of her Strength modifier when making the combat maneuver check. When a white-haired witch grapples a foe in this way, she does not gain the grappled condition.

At 4th level and every four levels thereafter, a white-haired witch’s hair adds 5 feet to its reach, to a maximum of 30 feet at 20th level.

The hair cannot be sundered or attacked as a separate creature.

In addition, a white-haired witch further improves her ability to control her hair as she progresses in level, gaining the following abilities:

Constrict (Ex): At 2nd level, when the white-haired witch’s hair successfully grapples an opponent, it can begin constricting her victim as a swift action*, dealing damage equal to that of its attack.

Trip (Ex): At 4th level, a white-haired witch who successfully strikes a foe with her hair can attempt a combat maneuver check to trip the creature as a swift action*.

Pull (Ex): At 6th level, a white-haired witch who successfully strikes a foe with her hair can attempt a combat maneuver check to pull the creature 5 feet closer to her as a swift action*.

Strangle (Ex): At 8th level, when the white-haired witch’s hair is grappling with an opponent, that creature is considered strangled, and cannot speak or cast spells with verbal components.

This ability replaces hex.

===================================================

Background:

For her entire life, Gehenna has been afraid of the man named Gaedren Lamm. Even in her earliest memories, she was already under his dubious care as one of his many “Little Lamms.” As if that was not burden enough, Gehenna’s body also clearly displays the signs of fiendish heritage; most noticeably two withered wings on her back, each covered sparsely with black feathers. Gehenna has no memories of whom her parents might have been and whether she was abducted by Lamm or just abandoned and then picked up off the streets. As curious as she is about her origins, she has never had the courage to ask Lamm for details, believing that she’d receiving only a beating in response.

Although tieflings are not necessarily rare in a city with heavy Chelaxian influences, Lamm most have seen a great deal of promise in Gehenna. In a city where devil worship is accepted, Gehenna might have become a good bargaining chip, or symbol of status. Unfortunately for the both of them, Gehennna was next to useless as one of his Little Lamms. She proved a completely inept pickpocket and wasn’t useful as a messenger or spy either; due to her lack of focus and jumpy behavior. The innate ability in her blood to see death on people deeply unsettled the young Gehenna. More often than not, she would spend her time avoiding the streets and locations where life was especially hard instead of seeing to her assigned tasks. All so that she avoid being confronted with the reality of death.

One day, Lamm’s frustration with the girl temporarily outweighed any long-term plans he might have had, and a fit of malice and rage, he tortured Gehenna to the point of death and summarily left her for dead, unconscious and in a heap of trash on the docks.

It was there that Gehenna almost gave up and met an ignoble end. When she finally regained consciousness, languid horror overtook her when she realized a large black and red crab was perched upon her chest. With one pincer it had pulled back her lips and with the other it was mindlessly pulling at her tongue. At first, Gehenna was simply overcome with a feeling of resignation, thinking perhaps that it was better to expire from her wounds and be picked away at by scavengers than to keep on going. But then the creature’s claw cut deep into her tongue and the stinging pain, coupled with the taste of blood, brought the girl back to her senses. Leaping up and casting the crab aside, Gehenna wiped the blood from her mouth and watched agape as the crustacean consumed the piece of flesh it had managed to secure while being flung away.

The vermin’s mindless stare seemed to fill with alien intelligence, and abruptly words which not her own filled Gehenna’s mind.

So be it.

She has taken to calling the hungry little creature "the gorumand" ever since.

Some hours after he had left Gehenna to die, Lamm had reflected on his actions and, finding them too wasteful, had sent a man out to see if there was anything left to salvage of the situation. The thug was surprised, not just to find the girl alive, but also to see her sitting innocently on the dock, poking at an ugly looking crab whilst white hair drifted about her hair with eerie grace. Gehenna was not free from Lamm’s control, but at least now, finally with power of her own, the beatings came less often. As she grew up into adulthood, Gehenna became one of Lamm’s favorite tools for intimidation. She was the boogeywoman, used to keep lesser thugs, children, and extortion victims in line. Before long, rumors of Lamm’s white-haired witch became the subject of several urban legends.

Gehenna despises the things she’s forced to do, but knows that she lacks the power to do anything about it. Her unnatural powers, appearance, and association with Lamm have ensured that most who know her hate and/or fear her, and those who don’t find her unpleasant to be around at best. To stave off the loneliness, constant fear, and boiling hatred she feels, Gehenna devotes much of her free time towards maintaining a small garden near her studio in the West Dock district. She enjoys watching things grow, and even has a special fondness for the crows who prey upon the vegetables and fruits, appreciating the company and the chance to start the growing process all over again.

Contacts:
Takis (Male Chelaxian Hellknight, age 29) - Takis is one of the many imperious Hellknights who patrol Korvosa's streets. A little over a year ago, he was elevated from his status as an armiger to that of a full-fledged knight. It was at that time, bursting with pride and zeal, that Takis first met Gehenna. While out on patrol, Takis caught Gehenna extorting one of Gaedren’s many victims through intimidation. It was a minor crime by the standards of the Korvosan slums, and one Takis might have ordinarily ignored, but that day was different. On that day, more than ever before or since, he wished to serve as an agent of absolute law.

Takis and his subordinates quickly cornered Gehenna and demanded due recompense for disruption of the peace. When the terrified Gehenna resisted, he had his men extract the the recompense by force. It wasn’t until much later that day, reflecting on the blood and bruises that he had left in his wake, that Takis felt the unfamiliar pangs of regret over his actions. Takis was not oblivious to the state of Korvosa’s slums, and the possibility that Gehenna was a victim herself, but he had mete out the proper punishment all the same. He believed that she must have had countless opportunities to turn her life around, and that it was her failings, not his, that were to blame. There was no reason that he should regret having enforced the law. Even so, there was no helping it. Takis felt terrible about what he had ordered done.

Ever since then, Takis visits Gehenna’s neighborhood in the Docks district every two weeks or so. Although he has little reason to do so, and seems to only have cruel and belittling words for the woman ("You still haven't jumped off the nearest bridge and done us both favor yet?"), but he never fails to appear regardless. Takis doesn’t fully understand why he bothers, and he finds the way she smiles at him when he visits unpleasant. It makes no sense to him why she should look forward to his scornful visits, but he can no longer bring himself to break from what has now become a routine. Now and then, he encourages her to do something proactive about her situation, and every time it ends with him stomping away in frustration when faced with her wavering and noncommittal responses. It vexes Takis to no end that if Gehenna had just a little bit more spine, she might become something great.

As much as Gehenna might irritate the cruel knight, the who he truly cannot stand is Jezebel, Gehenna’s “friend” from the Acadamae. While not particularly helpful himself, the hellknight would like nothing more than to see Gehenna pull herself up out of squalor. He is certain, however, that the bespectacled wizard from the Acadamae seeks only to bring Gehenna to ruin.

Takis has short black hair and a wide, hard-cut jaw. His brow seems to be constantly furrowed, casting shadows over his intense, brooding eyes. Befitting a member of his order, the serious-minded Takis rather humorless and rarely smiles.

Jezebel (Female tiefling Wizard, age 25) - Jezebel has golden hair, golden eyes, and an unrelenting ambition for power. A tiefling wizard who is currently a student at the Acadamae, Jezebel is one of Gehenna’s only “friends.” Having met Gehenna during one of the Acadamae’s infrequent recruitment drives, she has been determined to convince the fellow tiefling to join ever since. To that end, Jezebel has pointed out many times that Gehenna could make a proper life for herself within the Acadamae’s walls. There, tieflings are respected and feared “the way they ought to be.”

Jezebel claims that Gehenna has nothing to fear from Gaedren Lamm once she is behind the college’s high walls. The gold-touched tiefling often cites it as Gehenna’s quickest, easiest, and best shot for a better life. In truth, Jezebel’s primary motivation is selfish. Recruiting another tiefling into the college would please her superiors greatly. Even so, her feelings of camaraderie with Gehenna are genuine, and she believes it would be a good move for both of them. Of course, it has not occurred to Jezebel that the realities of life in the Acadamae could forever alter her friend, possibly in ways she wouldn’t like.

Although Gehenna appreciates the Jezebel’s kindness, she has thus far refused declined the invitation to join the Acadamae. Not just because she fears what Lamm might do if he found out, but also due to an even greater fear about what really goes on behind the Acadamae’s closed doors. Although infernal blood flows through her veins, Gehenna has no interest in consorting with devil-kind. As terrible and other people can be, Gehenna is certain that the denizens of Hell are worse. All the bad, without the good to balance it out.

Jezebel likes to wear expensive clothing, typically trousers and jackets that incorporate orange, red, and black into their designs. Although her eyesight is just fine, she likes to wear a pair of fake glasses, which she feels enhance her credibility as an arcane scholar. Jezebel's head sports two forward curving horns, and she has a long red tail.

Kadok (Male shoanti child, 11 years old) - A young Shoanti boy living near the Docks district. Some time ago, the boy had boldly approached Gehenna’s home whilst she was working in her garden. She had been both greatly startled when he loudly announced his presence to her, and followed up with a proclamation that he was not afraid. Thoroughly bemused, Gehenna questioned the body and discovered that his friends had dared him to approach the “old witch’s hovel” as a test of courage.

After the two had spoken for awhile, the precocious boy introduced himself as “Kadok,” and made a show of disappointment. He had come to prove his mettle against a terrible monster, but it turned out to be only a “harmless old women” in the end. Although she bristled at repeatedly being called “old,” Gehenna was too amused by the situation to hold it against him.

Kadok still visits Gehenna on occasion, having decided that the reclusive woman needs a “good conversation” now and then. Plus, Kadok has continued to play up Gehenna’s reputation to the rest of the local youth. He now claims that he has made a spirit-pact with the “old witch,” and she is teaching him her mystical secrets. While Gehenna worries about the boy being too open about his association with her, Kadok insists that the treats and respect he receives from his admiring peers is worth the risk.

Description
Ht: 5' 10"
Wt: 140lbs
Age: 24
Hair: ink black (stark white when activated)
Eyes: gray
Skin: white

Description: Tall and lean, Gehenna has almost waif-like features as a result of hard-living and a constant anxiousness. She has long, sharp facial features, high cheekbones, narrow eyes, and thin eyebrows. Her hair is ink black and falls to about elbow length at her back. The hair is roughly brushed and looks slightly frayed.

She wears baggy knitted clothing (usually a dark brown dress with linen pants and knee-high boots.) chosen for it's ability to hide the withered vestigial wings that serve as proof of her fiendish lineage. They are still somewhat apparent through the clothing, and although Gehenna walks perfectly upright, she is sometimes called a "hunchback" as a result. Although well hidden by her clothing, her back, arms and legs are covered in scars that she has accumulated since childhood. Proof of her enslavement to the criminal, Gaedren Lamm.

Gehenna is perpetually gloomy looking and usually has a defeated grin on her face when forced to deal with others. She does her best to appear cool and disaffected, but in truth is fairly jittery as a result of her upbringing. While in combat, and things are going favorably, Gehenna becomes more bold, sometimes laughing softly in-spite of herself.

Gehenna's ordinarily black hair turns stark white when in use. When on the offensive, the hair seems to float, almost as if caught in a breeze, and hundreds, if not thousands, of individual threads extend outward and drift lazily within the space she threatens. The strands are so fine that they can be difficult to see if not for how the light reflects of them in silver patterns. The hairs knowingly move out of the way of anything physical they might come into contact with them, so nothing which passes through those spaces becomes entangled. When she wishes to attack, the strands coalesce in one place and strike.
