Background:
While he carries with him the mystique of far-off and exotic lands, in truth he has little connection to his heritage. His parents were immigrants, and he was born near Kanameer, itself a short ways from Vliasport. His parents left for greener pastures when Aphrashai turned 11, and so he was forced to fend for himself. He found he had a talent for lying, so he turned to simple cons and tricks to make money. He was, and still is, quite vain, spending his ill-gotten gains on fine clothing and jewelry. An acquaintance of his suggested he try false seances, as the foolish always want answers to questions they could easily answer themselves. He took to it quite well, easily imitating magic and spiritual occurences. As time passed, he began to notices flashes of light or sounds he could not account for. When he focused he could control those. Then he realised, he had so masterfully pretended to use magic that the universe began to beleive he could actually cast spells. He trained his skills, merging lies, illusion, and mental manipulation to gain magical power. With it, he gained a name as an "accurate" and "trustworthy" medium. When he learned the Sirensong Carnival was coming to Vliasport, he made for it right away hoping to audition to gain fame, fortune, and new experiences.
