Abilities

Display of Heroism Once per combat, you may assist an ally who is imperiled. As a move action, you may move your speed to an ally. This movement doesn't provoke attacks of opportunity. The ally may stand as a free action if prone. You and that ally gain a +2 circumstance bonus to AC and saves until the end of your next turn.
Duck and Cover Whenever you are adjacent to an ally who also has this feat, and both of you are required to make a reflex saving throw against a spell or effect, you may take the result of your die roll or that of your ally (your modifiers still apply to the roll, regardless of which result you take). If you take your ally’s result, you are knocked prone (or staggered on your next turn, if you are already prone or cannot be knocked prone). In addition, you receive a +2 cover bonus to your AC against ranged attacks as long as your ally is wielding a shield.
Edict Anya must protect the life and lands of her sovereign at all costs. She must obey the commands of her sovereign without question. She must strive to expand the power and prestige of her sovereign's realm.
Far Challenge As a swift action, Anya may choose a target within sight to challenge. Her ranged attacks against the target of her challenge deal extra damage equal to her cavalier level. The target of the challenge gains a +4 bonus on attack rolls against Anya. This challenge lasts until the target is dead or unconscious, until the target hits Anya with a melee attack, or until combat ends. If the challenge ends because the target hits Anya with a melee attack, the challenge's effects change to the normal cavalier challenge and gains any order benefits Anya has (+1 dodge bonus to AC against the target).
Gifted Firearm Anya starts with a pistol. She cannot sell this weapon. She also gains the Gunsmithing feat. If her gifted firearm is destroyed, she loses this ability for 30 days while a replacement weapon is crafted. During this period, she takes a -1 penalty on attack and damage rolls.
Order Skills Anya adds Knowledge (Local) and Knowledge (Nobility) to her list of class skills. She can make Knowledge (Nobility) skills checks untrained. If she has ranks in the skill, she receives a bonus on the check equal to half her cavalier level (minimum +1) as long as the check involves her sovereign.
Tactician Anya receives a teamwork feat as a bonus feat. As a standard action, she can grant this feat to all allies within 30 feet who can see and hear her. Allies retain the use of this bonus feat for 3 rounds plus 1 round for every two levels of cavalier Anya possesses.

Racial Traits

Bonus Feat Humans select one extra feat at 1st level.
Skills Humans gain an additional skill rank at first level and one additional rank whenever they gain a level.[/spoiler]

Ten Min Background:
5 background and concept elements that you feel are important to the character

-Anya is a military veteran that now finds herself out of the service due to circumstances beyond her control. She once served the Risur nation under her commander, Colin Berriman, in a series of skirmishes on the Yerasol Archipelago years ago. Unfortunately for her, as well most of her unit, their position was leaked to the enemy and the Danor forces launced a massive ambush that ended with Anya and several others taken as prisoners.

-The soldiers found themselves stuck in a political limbo after hostilities between the two nations ceased; Danor unwilling to free such a large group without compensation and Risur unwilling to pay for their freedom. After years of hardship, Anya was able to wrestle a firearm from one of her captors and led a handful of her squadmates to freedom during a fairly bloody escape. Her actions weren't without consequence, both at home and in Danor. Danor doubled their demands for those who remained behind, their freedoms limited further and their punishments becoming more severe. Danor even made a show of executing Colin. Meanwhile, at home in Risur, Anya came under a lot of scrutiny at first. The military and the government questioned every aspect of her story until they were satisfied. Seeking to spin the events in their favor, Risur labeled Anya a hero, her tale becoming embellished more and more with each retelling. She even gained the attention of King Aodhan when he learned the woman had acquired a Danor pistol during the escape. Eventually, Risur came to the decision that Anya best served her country at home as a symbol rather than toiling away on foreign shores. Attaching a pretty face and bloated tales of her adventures to the recruitment posters has done wonders for enlistment, after all.

-Anya has a severe case of survivor's guilt. She feels especially strongly about the people she served with; those lost and those she left behind. This manifests for her in several ways. She's overprotective of those she considers to be teammates and she would gladly take attacks and punishments meant for them. Anya is also obsessed with training and planning. She tries to stay a step ahead of everyone else mentally and physically. Next time fate calls on her to save everyone, she will save them all.

-Anya has become extremely attached to the weapon she stole. It represents all she has left of those that weren't as fortunate as herself. She cleans her pistol excessively and practices with it regularly.

-Anya has received a lot of grooming to be a symbol for the Risur military. She was taught how to sway public opinion and win over the hearts of the people. She generally dislikes waging a war of words but gladly does her part for the glory of Risur.

Two goals, one for the character, one for the player

-Anya's primary concern is returning back to Yerasol and freeing anyone still alive. The guilt eats at her each day that passes while her friends and comrades are suffering, especially since she feels responsible for their deteriorating living conditions. She's argued with her superiors at length about mounting such an operation but her staged fame has done little to increase her position amongst the military. Unless Risur resorts to open war once again, Anya sees the RHC as her best chance at getting the resources needed to mount such a rescue...on her own if need be.

-Other than the obvious goal of wrapping up her story arc for some closure for Anya, I'd like to see her actually gain some real renown. The fake praise bothers her. She doesn't feel she earned it. Real rewards and real praise for things she's actually done would do wonders for her self confidence I think.

Two secrets. One known to the character, one unknown to the character

-Anya had a secret crush on her commanding officer, Colin. His death weighs heaviest on her conscience above all the others. She has an unhealthy weakness for similar men in authority positions.

-Colin Berriman isn't dead. The man that spies reported seeing beheaded was simply another soldier dressed in Colin's officer uniform. The belief that he was dead was strengthened when his personal effects were returned to his family by a Danor messenger. In truth, Colin is a traitor. His betrayal is responsible for the capture of those under his command. He now lives comfortably in Danor, advising the House of Jierre on Risur's military strengths and weaknesses.

People tied to the character.

-Victor Stower (Human Male, 29): Victor, or Vic, is a member of Anya's former unit. The two were romantically involved during their service in Yerasol. Vic was one of the few lucky souls that escaped alongside Anya. However, their relationship changed drastically once they were free of the prison camp. Seeing Vic brings up too many bad memories for Anya and she would prefer to avoid Vic for that reason. Vic, on the other hand, feels much differently. He planned to marry Anya once the war ended and still tries regularly to make Anya fall in love with him again.

-Edwyn Dackins (Human Male, 38): Edwyn is another soldier that made his escape with Anya. Edwyn is a married man and father of 5 children and the only member of Anya's former squad that she still associates with. When she spends time with him, the fact that so many people need him in their lives eases Anya's doubts about whether or not she did the right thing, if only for a moment. The two can often be found at a tavern late at night, enjoying drinks and each others company, neither one of them speaking about the war.

-Regina Landreth (Human Female, 49): Regina Landreth is Anya's mother and her only living immediate relative. Her mother is extremely protective of her daughter and constantly worries for her. As a result, she's constantly trying to talk Anya into leaving the military and settling down; she lost her daughter once and cannot stand to lose her again. This protective nature has driven the two apart. Anya dislikes constantly arguing with her mother about leaving the military and grows annoyed with her mother's constant talk of marriage and children. Regina hates all the "hero talk" about her daughter; she'd rather not imagine her daughter as a prisoner or a killer.

-Roland Graves (Human Male, 36): Roland is Anya's newest commanding officer. He actually has little authority over the woman. The military assigned him the task of watching Anya and making sure she did her new job as a military spokesperson. He's convinced he's becoming little more than a glorified babysitter for Anya and he tends to take out his frustration on her via long-winded angry tirades for the smallest of slights.

-Rallik Sevandir (Human Male, 51): Rallik is an ex-instructor at Flint's Battalion military academy. He took a special interest in the girl during her training at the academy and considers her to be one of his greatest successes. Anya owes a great deal to Rallik since he was the one that had her placed into the academy's Lion division, a special forces of sorts. Rallik retired from the academy shortly after the war ended and now mostly serves Risur as a military adviser.

Three memories, mannerisms, or quirks

-Anya is always impeccably dressed. Years under the rigid structure of the military and public pressure have made her obsessive about public opinion and the appearance of her uniform. She rarely wears anything other than the stylized Risur uniform she was issued after Risur decided she was to be a war hero.

-Anya is her own harshest critic and she often underestimates her own abilities. The public views her self doubt as "being humble" which has become part of her charm. She questions nearly every decision she makes and often feels unsure of herself. She finds herself asking "What if?" more than she'd like.

-Anya is unquestionably loyal to Risur and her king. She wanted to serve in the military for as long as she can remember and being accepted into the academy was the happiest day of her life.
