A Look at 2014

Monday, December 9, 2013

It's a busy time of year around the Paizo office as folks are working ahead to ensure that everyone can get their products on time even as the diligent editors, developers, graphic designers, and others look forward to taking a little time off. I spent much of last week outlining and assigning scenarios, and you should be seeing the product pages going up soon. Here's what to watch for:

January

#5–12: Destiny of the Sands, Part 1: A Bitter Bargain (Tier 1–5)
#5–13: Weapon in the Rift (Tier 5–9)

February

#5–14: Day of the Demon (Tier 3–7)
#5–15: Destiny of the Sands, Part 2: Race to Seeker's Folly (Tier 1–5)

March

#5–16: Destiny of the Sands, Part 3: Sanctum of the Sages (Tier 3–7)
#5–17: Fate of the Fiend (Tier 7–11)

Yes, that's right; the third scenario in the three-part series is actually one tier higher than those that precede it. This is the first time that we've jumped tiers during a named series, and there are very important in-game reasons for Part 3 being the level range that it is. Don't worry about having to play the three scenarios one after another, though; there are no plans to include a reward for consecutive play. Of course, there is something else that makes this series particularly special, but I won't spoil that just yet.

In the meantime, it's back to development. I want to make sure that everyone has the December scenarios to enjoy over the holidays.

Is "Fate of the Fiend" related to the two prior "...of the Fiend" scenarios? (Fury and Fingerprints)

5/5

Fate of the Fiend - a follow-up to Fingerprints and Fury? Fancy that - this is fabulous! I'll have to plan accordingly for that.

Also very good to see another named series - much better for "advertising" than "this one is kinda related to that other one you might have played."

John: When should we expect the EXclusive scenario for season 5?

Sovereign Court 4/5

No word on which factions these will be focusing on? Or do we have to go to the store page to find out. Are there store pages for them yet? Must check.

5/5 *

mmmm a series that is not all the same tier? I dig that! More sense of preogression.

The Exchange

So it appears a pattern is imerging - Pathfinder Society is going to tag along with APs and happen at the same area of the world. A natural evolution, I suppose, since all the supplement books are going to be published at the same time (players companions, campaign setting books, etc.). Looks like a really good marketing shtick.

I'm guessing Destiny of the Sands is going to be Osirion-focused. Maybe even a set-up for The Mummy's Mask?

Shadow Lodge 4/5

Brilliant.

Grand Lodge 5/5

This is exactly what I needed to start working on the schedule for my mid-April convention. Thanks! :D

Dark Archive

I thought Day of the Demon came out last year. Is it being released for home play with any GM, maybe?

Grand Lodge 4/5

Day of the Demon is the Season 4 exclusive only run by 4-star GMs and above. Each such special is released as an updated normal scenario the following season and the exclusive version is then retired.

Shadow Lodge 3/5

looks like 5-13 should be Weapon of the Rift. Then they'd all match up.

Grand Lodge 4/5

I wonder if 5-13 will have something to do with Gamin the Misforged.

I played Day of the Demon as the 4th season exclusive, can I legally play it for credit (other than than the rule with GM Stars) now that it is part of 5th season?

You cannot, as it is still the same scenario, just released for anyone to run.

Grand Lodge 4/5

Negative. The EX and normal versions are considered the same scenario, and credit for one counts as credit for the other.

Edit: Ninja'd by Kelly by half a minute!

Thanks you guys. I figured as much, but a boy can dream...

Grand Lodge 4/5

You will be able to GM it as a normal scenario however. :)

Earlier in the season I inadvertently created a glut of "The XYZ" titles, and I made a conscious effort to use other naming conventions. Clearly the pendulum has swung in the opposite direction.

That said, I'm happy with these titles. Each one works very well for its particular scenario.

Is it wrong that I want to request a "Night of the Doctor Demon" prequal webisode/blog post for "Day of the Doctor Demon"?

Any chance we get what factions go with what scenarios ahead of time as well?

Nope there's nothing wrong with that at all. It might even get developed by the interim developer who came, ever so briefly, between myself and John. We call him the War Developer.

Is it bad that I actually went right back to the War Games and thought 'War Chief'/ 'War Lord'?

I can confirm that both those scenarios were Tier 3-7.

Gah, about time. SC has gotten hosed. By the way, aren't we suppose to be doing something in a Sky Citadel at some point? I feel like that was developed and then...nothing.

I imagine you'll appreciate Scenario #5–10.

Shadow Lodge 4/5

Where Mammoths Fear to Tread is a Silver Crusade scenario? My Holy Vindicator would be happy about that if it were true, but I don't see it on the product page...
