Killer Cover Compilation

Tuesday, October 2, 2012

Since we had our Pathfinder RPG NPC Codex preview yesterday, here's something a bit more general. Check out this fantastic compilation of the first 60 Pathfinder Adventure Path covers, stitched together by our own Senior Art Director, Sarah Robinson. This set collects our first 10 Adventure Paths, highlighting the themes and deadliest threats of each campaign up through volume #60. Five years ago I didn't even dare to hope I might be saying this, but I guess we're going to have to start planning something really special for Pathfinder Adventure Path #100 in November 2015.

So, which one's been your favorite?

Skull and Shackles covers aren't in the right order.
56 and 57 are swapped.
Why I immediately saw that, I'm not sure.

Grand Lodge

Any chance of getting a larger version of this once the order fixed?

Would look awesome as my desktop* background

Probably because of the hot girls on these covers. :)

Maybe it's just me - but I found that in most cases the first part of an Adventure Path is always loads of fun and really well written. Perhaps its because I've not been exposed to all that many high-end parts yet, but the beginnings have always made a big mark for me.

In this case "intimacy breeds familiarity" would be correct.
My crew of PCs has just started the 2nd part of the AP and I've been staring at the cover for about a month. Much easier on the eyes than Captain Harrigan.

And I second the call for Wallpaper.
Most anything on the 16:9 ratio would be nice.

Single cover: Kingmaker #2 (PF #32)

Overall series: Legacy of Fire (PF #19-#24)

I always go back to RotR as my favorite.

Please, this would be awesome.

RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16

I don't own Curse of the Crimson Throne yet, waiting for another sale on PDF's from yoU!

But of the rest that I do own, Rise of the Rune Lords was the most fun all around. It's incredibly generic, goes to high level, classic in the enemies, has tons of campaign lore, and goes well with any generic character.

Many of the others are much more niche, which isn't bad, it's just not as cleanly my style.

This would make a cool wallpaper! Anyone care to take a crack!

For the character art: Second Darkness #2 and Legacy of Fire #6. Great.

For overall Adventure Path cover design: I love Legacy of Fire and Serpent's Skull, due to the great top and bottom border colors.

For overall individual cover design, including character, background image, and border: Legacy of Fire 6 (just the best), Serpent's Skull 2 (love the greenness of the background image), Kingmaker 2 (great composition with the background image and that awesome troll).

The Exchange

I also would love to see this larger, maybe even poster sized so we can zoom in and get a ton of detail.

Favs;
Legacy of Fire #4: the shaitan contrasted so well with the AP color scheme.

The chicks on the Serpent Skull covers are by far the 'hottest'

Favorite AP has been Kingmaker. Out of curiosity, is it just me or have the APs from Carrion Crown onwards become like a Meat Grinder... Seriously, it's like the community toggled on Nightmare Mode.

So if I did my math right(unlikely) then AP 100 will be Issue 4 of the 16th AP

Also I have really loved the AP covers so far... but I think it would be really cool to do linking covers for a future AP, where they could line up. You guys have stopped having an Example Party in each book, so over the course of 6 books the cover image in the background could all line up into one long sequence featuring all the iconics in battles with monsters in that particular book... With the featured NPC on each book I am not sure how you would want to do them linking from cover to cover... but you guys have an amazing art department and I am sure you could figure out something spectacular...

My own favorite AP is Kingmaker, due to my love for the kingdom-building and exploration aspects. After that, it's probably Carrion Crown (for the horror) and Skull & Shackles, due to differences between it and most other campaigns.

Great work so far Paizo, it'll be a joy to see what's coming from you in the future.

This is really neat work. It also makes me think...what would be really cool is to have the background art from each cover link together to form one, long mural when all the issues of the AP are placed together.

Dark Archive

I like the Legacy of Fire covers best, and then the Carrion Crown covers, but the Wayne Reynolds ones are also gorgeous (even if the first twelve are oh so familiar, by now).

Grand Lodge

I too through in my vote for a wallpaper size version of it.

Gotta catch em all.

And I did..

I agree. This would be really neat! A bit like the 1997 Star Wars SE movie posters that formed one big movie poster when you put them together.

I also would enjoy this compliation as a desktop background.

What kind of spectacular plans do you have for Pathfinder #100?

For a whole series, my favorite is the Jade Regent series with Second Darkness close behind. For a single cover, I like Carrion Crown #6 - Shadows of Gallowspire the best. Guess its the undead fiend in me.

I'll also add my name to the list of people requesting to see a wallpaper version of this.

While Serpents Skull is far from my favorite AP I would dearly love for Kerem Beyit to get some more work with you guys. Really great stuff.

Legacy of Fire, almost perfect except the fourth part

cyclops lich from Kingmaker for a single cover

Boy, that's a brilliant line-up of cover artists.

And let me add my voice to the call for wallpaper. I sure miss getting those. Especially iPHONE wallpapers.

The art in Paizo products is just outstanding. Covers and interior, it is gorgeous.

My one small quibble is with putting the BBEG on the covers. We're playing Kingmaker right now and I try to keep my book face down, but I occasionally forget and set down the AP with a certain undead cyclops in view. They haven't encountered him or anything about cyclops (cyclopses? cyclopsi?) quite yet, so it can spoil a bit of the surprise.

Buy a DM screen or two and then you can have it hidden. You can find one here on Paizo.com. :D

Way back when I went to school the students used to make book covers out of brown paper bags. It was to keep them clean for the next year's batch of students but it would work for hiding cover art just as well. Look up "paper bag book cover" on youtube to see how it's done.

Earlier I said that I would love to see this as a desktop wallpaper. I still think that would be awesome. I had an idea that would turn up the awesome, though.

A poster. A poster with each cover at or near full size. That would be a very cool poster. I would buy such a poster as long as it were not excessively expensive.
