Hey guys. I figured this would be the easiest place to get some sort of response or clarification.

I know that for this year's Dundracon, Azmyth is in charge of organizing Pathfinder Society sessions. However, with the event about 4 weeks away and no Warhorn or schedule of any sort has been posted, am I safe to assume the PFS presence this year will be limited or, perhaps, non-existent? The convention organizers themselves have no information regarding the status of PFS tables at the event.

In order to plan if I'm actually going to spend the money this year to go to Dundracon, it'd be great to know if there's actually going to be some organized play. Thanks.

The Exchange 2/5 Contributor, RPG Superstar 2010 Top 16

I've heard there is going to be very little PFS at the con.

Just rumor at this point but I suggest holding off on spending money until you see the schedule.

Grand Lodge 5/5

I regret the last minute nature of this announcement, but the situation (and politics) were out of my control:

This morning I received the first positive confirmation from the DundraCon organizing committee that space will be provided for us.
We are hustling to create our scenario list and schedule which should be posted later today.
We are going to try to rally our community to organize the largest showing of PFS players DDC has ever seen.

If only we could get a 'celebrity' judge to come run Sewer Dragons. I believe it will be on the schedule twice, Ogre.

Good to hear. Earlier today I dropped a couple of notes to DCC asking to make sure space was being provided. Sounds like it was all resolved earlier. WTG, Mike and whomever worked through the politics of the situation.

Silver Crusade 2/5

I'll have to see if I can't chase down a group for that, now that I know PFS will be involved.

You mean the Great Sewer Dragons Convocation of 4712 can still happen? Count me in.

That would be sweet, I haven't played that yet. Who is the celebrity?

I seem to remember some rule about not being able to play in material that you have contributed to but I can't find it anywhere in the rules, maybe that was an LFR rule.

The Exchange 2/5 Contributor, RPG Superstar 2010 Top 16

I guess that makes sense in a weird way (though I don't think there are any rules pointed to contributors in PFS).

I see it as a chance to see how others interpret your stuff and ultimately improve it.

I was looking at the Schedule and there are not alot of Pathfinder games in general going on at Dundracon this year

Dundracon has always had a very diverse offering of games, slanting heavy to Chaosium and Hero games due to both companies being headquartered in the Bay Area.

We'll be running society games all weekend, but it is also a great opportunity to try something completely different.

Some of my fond Dundracon memories include playing Runequest with Greg Stafford, Call of Cthulu with Sandy Petersen, Pendragon with Charlie Crank and Steve Perrin, Champions with Steve Long and Bruce Harlick, Candyland40K (a hilarious home brew), Tales of the Floating Vagabond, and a wide variety of LARP's (including a Rediculous Changeling scavenger hunt).

Grand Lodge 5/5 *

Glad to hear it will be there. I was highly debating hitting up OrcCon instead this February to get my PFS fix, but I will likely go to Dundracon if a full slate is being offered.

But really, it's only because I'd rather bum a ride off of Will. ;)

We are very close to posting our schedule for DundraCon!

In the mean while, visit the Warhorn page and get registered!

Yeah I saw alot of differnt games

One of the players from our group is running a sponsered Pathfinder event its like for 16th level characters we are playtesting it for him and showing him all the flaws in it

To get that many people engaged in GMing Pathfinder, I'd basically have to resort to "GM training sessions" featuring parties with prostitutes and debauchery.

So for a moment I was jealous, and then I realized It wasn't jealousy, just HATE!

Wait. I could have had all that for GMing, and instead all I got was a signed APG? I'VE BEEN ROBBED! Painlord and Azmyth should not be allowed to have levels of bard IRL....that's just cheating....

Sounds like the Canadians have a different idea of GM 'rewards' than they do here stateside. I've been meaning to make a trip...

I just booked my hotel reservation. It looks like I'm staying at the overflow hotel.

I'm trying to avoid renting a car if I don't have to. I would walk, but it's quite a distance between the two hotels. Is anyone staying at the Courtyard have a car and willing to give a visiting SoCaler a ride to and from the con each day?

Edit:

Google estimates it to be a 18 minute walk. That's entirely reasonable. Disregard that request, more cardio for me!

The Exchange 2/5 Contributor, RPG Superstar 2010 Top 16

Many hotels offer a shuttle service to local destinations. You might check if it's available there.

The marriott courtyard folk have told DunDraCon folk that they are planning to run a shuttle between the two marriotts this year.

Whoa! I hope for that shuttle driver's sake that the shuttle has openable windows...that actually open...for the evening (morning?) trips back to the hotel, especially on Sunday and Monday. Can you say gamer stench?

In honor of my recently achieved 4th star, I have decided to run a special late-night session of
3-EX: The Cyphermage Dilemma (Tier 1–5) [Assuming it releases in time for Con]

I'm not going to this session on warhorn, but if you're interested in playing in this game, you might want to try:
1) Get involved in the regular calendar and have fun!
2) GM a session or three and have fun!
3) Tell the nearest GM, Con Ambassador, Venture-Captain or Venture-Lieutenant that you want in!
4) Shower your volunteer staff with gifts of snacks, drinks and hugs.

The Exchange 3/5

4th star?!

Ah...you're a rock star, Azzolino!

I'll be selective about which volunteer staff I'm going to shower.

I'm not sure how I could get in on this, I have three sessions a day scheduled from Sat/ Sun and one Monday. I might have to take a raincheck on that.

Congrats on the 4th star! I should be bumping up to two sometime between now and the con.

Hey DunDraPeeps,

I'm wondering if someone can help me out

Question - I signed up for Fri-Sun PFS games, so I'm good. But, I used the DDC site to answer an ad to split a hotel room with someone who is an old school D&D player (I haven't met them but chatted on phone) and told them about Pathfinder. They seemed pretty keen on trying it, but they didn't know anything about warhorn, and were just planning on signing up when the actual site registration is.

If they want to play PF, do they have to use warhorn, or will there still be Pathfinder games for them through the DDC site and the official registration?

Also, I'm too inexperienced to GM, but that late night Cyphermage game sounds RAD. Who do I have to shower with again?

I should add, I think they'd want to get in the Sat Intro sessions, and wouldn't want them to miss them if possible.

Silver Crusade 4/5

I want to go.. Too bad I'm stuck here in the countryside... Working on ConQuest Sacramento a month later. ^_^

And you're hosting the new special too.. Boo. I'm sad faced.

@gonzo — Usually they try and seat as many peeps as possible but this year it might be tight. It's hard to say if he will get into a particulr game or not.

@ Dennis.. I do not know? And if so, I still can not come due to work and school.

And... Working on ConQuest Sacramento ^_^

Hey Gonzo,

There are two of us signed up to run all three of the First Steps games on Saturday. Hopefully, we will not have to turn any players away. However, signing up ahead of time on Warhorn is always safer than simply showing up.

To my knowledge, there are no society games being offered as part of Dundracon's regular game lottery. Unfortunately, they have not done a good job explaining that Pathfinder Society is a separate beast with it's own war horn site for sign ups.

Looking forward to seeing you there!

Will from Fresno

Liberty's Edge 5/5

Ok, I'm getting pretty psyched up for Dundracon now. I just figured out that I'll pick up my third star there.

Based on sign ups, and the likelihood that most walk-ins will be new, we should try to offer a few more sessions and GM's for the First Steps scenarios.

The Exchange 3/5

Agreed. Getting psyched about things though I'm only there Sat & Sun (I think). I trust in Josh Archer to make things happen.

Also, getting to play with gonzosports for the first time tomorrow, which will be keen.

That would be good. My wife and I are signed up for the three-part "Quest for Perfection", but the First Steps scenarios clashed with other sessions we wanted to try out. While we're old-time RPGers (albeit coming off a 15-year hiatus), we're fairly new to Pathfinder, and this will be our first Pathfinder Society adventure.

We'd definitely like to run the First Steps scenarios if possible, so we'll be watching out for any news of other timeslots. I assume we might be at a slight disadvantage vis-a-vis the backstory of the Pathfinder Society itself if we haven't run the First Steps, but other than that is there anything else we should be aware of?

The Exchange 3/5

Yo John--

Should you not be able to get into the First Steps at DDC, I'm sure we can arrange a visit(s) to your local gamestore (or elsewhere) by one of our many awesome Bay Area judges for some PFS play, including First Steps.

-Pain

Liberty's Edge 5/5

The First Steps series is certainly ideal for brand new Pathfinder Society players, simply because it provides a great introduction to the various factions and their leaders. However, if you download the new Guide to Organized Play or check out the Field Guide you should get enough information to help select a suitable faction.

With that said, the Quest for Perfection series should also be a good series to start with. The scenarios are tough at level 1 and include a nice mix of combat and skill challenges.

That game that link brings up is the one my wife and I are currently playing in, and is still running (although in the couple of months since I submitted the post the third player dropped out, but has been replaced by three additional players). We're just about at the end of the first part of the Jade Regent adventure path, so by now we're reasonably comfortable with the mechanics of playing in a Pathfinder campaign.

I was fairly sure that the convention games wouldn't have First Steps as a prerequisite, and there's enough information in the downloadable Guide to Orgaized Play to make choosing a faction possible. But checking here first seemed a fairly smart move to me, just in case my assumptions were wrong.

Thanks for the sanity check. I'll still keep watching this thread (and check at DDC as soon as we get there on Friday) to see if other intro sessions show up.
