Where is her unholy symbol? Anton knows of the importance of symbols for clerics from making that holy symbol of Nethys for Jask, so he's looking for one.

We are just waiting on Tragershen and Anton's round 5 actions (and Aedalis, Wic and Corb's round 6) before we can get this TPK over with? :)

Hoping desperately to whittle down the number of foes they face, Tragershen closes on the remaining ghoul. He hurls his rapier with arcane force, but his concern for Wicewaken makes it go wide. As the blade returns to his hand, he gestures a challenge to the creature to approach him, hoping its not the last thing he ever does.

Move to W27 and hand of apprentice his rapier at the ghoul in W30.

Say, in addition to my above question about where she's holding or wearing her unholy symbol, I just had a thought. With Caravan Bond, are Bit of Luck and Elysium's Call purely mental actions? Unlike channel energy, it looks like you can use domain powers without being able to present your holy symbol.

Edit: And I apologize if this is stepping on any toes, but can Elysium's Call work on ghoul paralysis? I just have to ask, because that would be really cool, plus it's Su and wouldn't even provoke an AoO.

Wearing her holy symbol. These SU abilities are a standard action so they would not be usable during paralysis, sorry.
Anton to finish the round.

Sorry, thought I would get a chance to post at work but didn't, and needed to know those answers anyway.

Round 5, Init 4

"Aaauuugh!" Anton suddenly regains the ability to speak, and turns his head to take in the scene. What seems like an eternity of pent-up advice all spills forth at once. "All-luck-to-Corb! Corb-heal-up-and-step-up! But-wait-to-see-what-Wice-does!" The cautious ranger takes his own advice, still lying on the ground, waiting to see the course of the battle before deciding his own course of action.

So... What are my options with regard to her unholy symbol? Is it pinned to her chest (do ghouls even wear clothes) or on a chain or something?
1. Steal w/lucerne hammer? Using the spiked head (pictured in UE) to scoop up the chain, with -4 like a whip?
2. Steal like normal?
3. Sunder the symbol?
4. Sunder the chain?
5. Other?

Anton waits to see what occurs for a few seconds, the sensation finally back to his body.
Nim lies there, frozen by the Ghouls paralysis unable to help his friends.
Mihai begins to feel the ability to move again, his fingers twitching. Mihai, you will be able to act on your turn.

Well that changes things!

Round 6, Init 19

MA: Move 15' to T/24.
SA: Steal unholy symbol with lucerne hammer (Perceive the Enemy, sickened): 1d20 + 4 - 4 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (20) + 4 - 4 + 2 - 2 = 20
FA: Speech. The ruling of not being prone really changes the tactical situation, but I'd rather just add a little than retcon.

Seeing that his friends have dealt with the threat at the back, Anton throws himself forward to deal with the worst: the one who has hurt them all at once. Remembering how Jask was cut off from accessing Nethyl's divine aid until Anton made him a symbol of his deity, the thoughtful halfling is determined to relieve the undead "Mother" of hers.

Racing on his short legs to stand next to Corbius, Anton then swings his trusty lucerne hammer in an upward arc. Projecting opposite from the versatile polearm's pronged hammer head, there's a curved spike used for penetrating armor -- a spike shaped like it could scoop the chain from around Nylithati's neck. And that's what he intends to do with it.

Amazlingly, the dextrous ranger lifts it off of her perfectly, even making it look easy. The evil pendant slides smoothly down the wooden shaft to hang from the crook of one elbow, so that Anton has to swiftly re-adjust his grip to keep the chain from trapping his arms in-between. "Never mind everyone, got what I wanted. New plan! Don't let her get it back!"

Current Status

DM Stephen:
I made a few implicit declarations in the interest of time, confident that you will overrule them if you don't like them.
* Nylithati's unholy symbol is on a chain around her neck.
* Anton can use his lucerne hammer's curved spike to scoop up a chain worn like that, much like how a whip can be used to steal things in general (and with the same -4 penalty), but with a much narrower application.
* The puddle in T/23-24 counts as several terrains, including water and underground (obviously), but also jungle (because it's on a jungle island and puddles are jungle-y). So the Azlanti boots of the jungle apply.
* Anton didn't have time to pocket the unholy symbol, because it takes a move action to sheathe a weapon or retrieve an item.

Just so you know, I thought that what I was doing was so cool that I wrote out much of this post before even previewing to see if it worked. If you overrule the steal maneuver, then I hope that you will at least let me keep the nat 20 for whatever I do instead. ;)

I will post tomorrow morning after the DM has ruled on Anton's action as it will have an impact on my actions.

Anton:

The proper skill for this manuever is slight of hand. But this is why you can't use it:
"If you try to take something from a creature, you must make a DC 20 Sleight of Hand check. The opponent makes a Perception check to detect the attempt, opposed by the Sleight of Hand check result you achieved when you tried to grab the item. An opponent who succeeds on this check notices the attempt, regardless of whether you got the item. You cannot use this skill to take an object from another creature during combat if the creature is aware of your presence."
A whip can be used in a disarm manuever, I am not sure what you are referencing as far as stealing an item.
Another possible manuever would be to sunder it and destroy it but you would draw an AOO.
You can use your original roll though, sorry, it was a cool idea, just not supported by the rules...

Male Human (Varisian) Cleric (Varisian Pilgrim archetype) 5

DM Stephen - Anton is trying to do a Steal combat maneuver from APG, an attempting to avoid an AoO by doing it with his hammer from a reach position.

PRD wrote:

Steal

You can attempt to take an item from a foe as a standard action. This maneuver can be used in melee to take any item that is neither held nor hidden in a bag or pack. You must have at least one hand free (holding nothing) to attempt this maneuver. You must select the item to be taken before the check is made. Items that are simply tucked into a belt or loosely attached (such as brooches or necklaces) are the easiest to take. Items fastened to a foe (such as cloaks, sheathed weapons, or pouches) are more difficult to take, and give the opponent a +5 bonus (or greater) to his CMD. Items that are closely worn (such as armor, backpacks, boots, clothing, or rings) cannot be taken with this maneuver. Items held in the hands (such as wielded weapons or wands) also cannot be taken with the steal maneuver—you must use the disarm combat maneuver instead. The GM is the final arbiter of what items can be taken. If you do not have the Improved Steal feat or a similar ability, attempting to steal an object provokes an attack of opportunity from the target of your maneuver.

Although this maneuver can only be performed if the target is within your reach, you can use a whip to steal an object from a target within range with a –4 penalty on the attack roll.

If your attack is successful, you may take one item from your opponent. You must be able to reach the item to be taken (subject to GM discretion). Your enemy is immediately aware of this theft unless you possess the Greater Steal feat.

Male Halfling (Molthuni) Barbarian 1 Ranger (Trapper) 3

That is correct. I had a lot of time while Anton was paralyzed to consider the situation, and that was what I came up with.

The problem I see is that it specifies whip and doesn't say whip or other weapons. Whip is a weapon that has the disarm ability among others.
You can try to manuever but not with your hammer, you would have to risk the AOO...

HP 39/30, AC- 11 (15 MA) T- 11 FF- 10 (14MA), CMD- 12, F +6, R +4, W +7, P +7, In +5

Just go with the Sunder.

Or smack her in the face with your hammer...

Male Halfling (Molthuni) Barbarian 1 Ranger (Trapper) 3

Okay, I can't get close enough to steal by hand, so I'll have to go with the sunder. I don't have time to write a description, and I don't know if sunder can crit. Just in case (this time using the correct CMB):
Damage: 1d10 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11
Confirm crit: 1d20 + 2 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 + 2 - 2 = 8
Crit damage: 1d10 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8

Male Halfling (Molthuni) Barbarian 1 Ranger (Trapper) 3

Dangit! I keep forgetting sickened. That's 9 damage, not 11. Still, at least I rolled high. And used a reach weapon.

The hammer crashes down on the holy symbol on her chest and smashes it into pieces. She shrieks as the pieces fall to the ground...

Looking to contribute to the engagement (without necessarily engaging), he summons a bolt of positive energy and attempts to strike the undead with it past his friends. Bottom line: You might be better off just using one of your awesome hexes.

Here's why:
If you had stepped back into U/28 to shoot the ghoul, then it looks to me like it would take 60' to end up in a water square next to Nylie, where the centers line to Corbius would only be going through adjacent borders. You might be able to flank in round 8, since U/20 was described as up to her waist, so you might not need a swim speed to withdraw into it. Going the long way around, I counted a full 120' of movement to flank -- and that's if you had stepped back into V/28, and didn't need to swim in a couple of water squares of yet-to-be-determined depth.

It's affixed to the back of his pith helmet, to leave room in front for his miner's lantern, and to embolden those who follow behind. (I also thought of using it as a crotch protector, but couldn't imagine having a big butterfly there -- although it would still be better than this.)

Having moved forward 30 feet last round (not seen a map in a long time), Aedalis should now be able to get into a flanking position with mother.

Dagger: 1d20 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (11) + 1 - 4 = 8

Aedalis dropped his crossbow, drew a dagger and made a rather poor effort to threaten the Ghoul.

AC16. Enjoy the flank guys (just Anton?).

Round 8

Wic is frenzied in his attempts to find an opening he can use to bring mother down. Snapping and growling he lunges at her legs this time in an attempt to upend her...

standard action attack w/bite -sickened: 1d20 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 - 2 = 19

free trip attack: 1d20 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 - 2 = 20

...biting down hard on her knee, lowering his stance and giving a mighty twist of his muscular neck!

Please let that be enough to beat her CMD! :)

It was not enough last time to hit her I believe? Not seen a map in ages but if he had flanking with Aedalis could be a hit.

Round 8, Init 19

MA: Move 5' to T/23 and draw trident.
SA: Fighting defensively with trident: 1d20 + 4 - 4 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (2) + 4 - 4 + 2 - 2 = 2
...for 1d6 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (5) + 1 - 2 = 4 damage.

Anton draws his trident and closes the distance with Nylithati. Then he attempts to punctuate his insult with an injury, stabbing at the undead cleric with an over-sized fork. However, he's being very cautious to keep her deadly claws and jaws away from him, and doesn't connect.

Current Status
AC 22, hp 18/18, position T/23
Fighting defensively, Perceive the Enemy (Nylithati), sickened

AoO:
As Nylithati stands back up, Anton takes advantage of her awkward position to stab her in the chest.

Fighting defensively with trident: 1d20 + 4 - 4 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (20) + 4 - 4 + 2 - 2 = 20
...for 1d6 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (2) + 1 - 2 = 1 damage.
Crit confirm: 1d20 + 4 - 4 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (1) + 4 - 4 + 2 - 2 = 1 Nope

Aedalis:
Wice was the only one to hit in round 7, which he did with the same roll. And a nat 20 is an automatic success for combat maneuvers, so she's finally tripped, thank goodness. Here's the thing: no matter how close, you can't flank in one round without incurring an AoO.

I tried to explain before, but here's more detail. Mother is in the water, next to land, at a narrow gap. She's at U/22. (Wice is in T/22, while Corb and Trag are in U/23, and I just moved.) You can move into S/22, so you can take a diagonal move into the water from S/22 to T/21 (S/21 is a wall). But that puts you adjacent NW to her. And V/23 is a cavern wall too, so you can't flank with anyone from there.

To flank without incurring an AoO, it would then take a withdraw action in the next round from T/21 to U/21. That's why I suggested just using your awesome hexes -- and not to table talk or anything, but Anton's clearly taunting her now. ;)
