Free RPG Day adventures now on paizo.com!

Tuesday, August 25, 2020

This year Free RPG Day was Saturday, July 25, 2020. Designed to support your favorite local games stores with increased traffic, participating stores had exclusive new adventures, as well as giveaways and prizes. But in this time of social distancing, many plans were askew. Some stores were closed, others had curbside pickup.

Using the Free RPG Day database I discovered a new game-store/pub near my home that I knew nothing about! On the 25th we lined up at least 6 feet apart. They handed out products outside, so going inside was not required to participate. They let a few of us inside at a time, all masked up. And they had ice cream! I’ve returned twice.

Now, 30 days later, our adventures Starfinder Adventure: Skitter Home and Pathfinder Adventure: Little Trouble in Big Absalom are available as free downloads! Print copies are available for $5.

Game covers for Starfinder: Skitter Home Game covers for Pathfinder Little Trouble in Big Absalom

The adventures include pre-generated characters, are short, and great for beginners. Pathfinder Adventure: Little Trouble in Big Absalom is the first volume for Pathfinder Second Edition and stars first level kobolds! Whereas Starfinder Adventure: Skitter Home intended for four 4th-level skittermander characters who are looking for some fun before jumping into action like the helpful heroes that they are.

You can also go back and start Starfinder Skitter Shot at first level and play Starfinder Skitter Crash, which is intended for four 3rd-level skittermander characters.

If you participate in the Pathfinder or Starfinder Societies, you may play the adventure and apply credit to one of your Society characters of the same level (or a new first level character). More detailed instructions for earning credit and the chronicle sheet listing in-Society rewards are available as a free download on the product page for each adventure. Games run on Free RPG Day retroactively earn credit and players should contact their GM to get their chronicle.

All our Pathfinder First Edition Free RPG Day Adventures are here.

We’ll be sure to announce any virtual tabletop partners who make these available.

Support your favorite local game store, there would not be a Free RPG Day without them!

Adventures Ahead!

Yay!

Question regarding Skitter Home (and actually Skitter Crash as well, since I just noticed the difference between Skitter Shot and the latter two): Are we allowed to use our own Skittermander characters for SFS play? Skitter Shot has language that allows this, but neither Skitter Crash nor Skitter Home do.

Thanks!

Per John Compton last year, you can use your skittermanders as long as they are in the level range, which will extend to this year as well. Sometimes you just gotta all-six it, gree?

Huzzah!

Same question, but for the newly available kobold ancestry in Pathfinder. :-)

Pathfinder (second edition) Adventures are sanctioned Campaign Mode, so it is up to the GM. If you are using Society character structure, you would need to advertise it as such.

Makes sense, thank you!

So Little Trouble's chronicle can only be applied to a 1st level character then?

Sanctioning Doc: Players of this adventure, as well as GMs who run the adventure, gain the Chronicle Sheet included with this document, which they can apply to any of their Pathfinder Society (second edition) organized play characters

Blog: If you participate in the Pathfinder or Starfinder Societies, you may play the adventure and apply credit to one of your Society characters of the same level (or a new first level character).

Maybe... Maybe not. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I also am wondering about the experience given for Little Trouble in Big Absalom module. It's longer and more complex than a quest, but not the same length as a scenario. Looking at it, I would have pegged it at 2XP -- about the length of two quests.

Am I correct that this is not repeatable? So glad to see this sanctioned!

Hmm

Okay.. my theory on where you can apply credit...

Sanctioning doc says any character.

Blog says only level one.

Blog is however written by Aaron Shanks who isn't a member of PFS leadership and thus doesn't have the authority to make rulings etc.

Which leaves us with apply to any character.

Since you are "Organized Play Associate" - these your words are official confirmation? Or they are just an assumption of what will (but not already) happen?

I am sorry for my bad English.

Alex is part of the Organised Play team so yes, that is an official confirmation.

The issues between the blog and the sanctioning docs was a goof on my part. I wrote the blog not having read through the final sanctioning docs(I know, bad OPM, no cookies). Please default to the sanctioning docs for application and benefits. My apologies for the confusion my errors caused.
