Pathfinder Playtest Preorder Update

Wednesday, August 1, 2018

When Paizo was planning this year's Pathfinder Playtest, we expected to exceed our own ability to fulfill orders on a timely basis, so we decided to use Fulfillment by Amazon. Unfortunately, Amazon's reports indicate that most customers will not be receiving their orders by tomorrow's release date. They shipped 3 orders on July 28, 3 more on July 29, and no orders on July 30 or 31. Today, they have shipped almost 10% of the outstanding orders, and they are continuing to ship through the night and into tomorrow. They have so far been unable to tell us when they will complete shipping. We will be posting updates as we receive them in this forum thread.

This delay doesn't impact preorders placed with retailers; most of them should have already received their products for release tomorrow. Paizo.com preorders for pickup at Gen Con are also unaffected.

We sincerely apologize for this delay. If your paizo.com Pathfinder Playtest preorder is being fulfilled by Amazon, we will be giving you $15 in paizo.com store credit in the near future.

PDFs of all of the playtest products will be available for free shortly after 6:00 AM Pacific time at paizo.com/pathfinderplaytest.

seriously grateful that the pdf's were released :D That being said the Rule book arrived today as a separate shipment from the Map and Quest book. Picked up the collectors edition and I am not disappointed. Diving into all of this now :D

Here is my thoughts on the matter... I am an old-school table top gamer. I rely on the books, and back when I had internet on more than my phone I would use PDFs as well. I only have internet on my phone now though. So here I am, out at a retreat, wondering if books have arrived at my house and are now sitting on my porch or something with daily thunderstorms.

I'm angry, I can't get the zip file holding the PDFs to open on my phone unless I download some sketchy app I don't trust. I'm worried sick the books are gonna be ruined if they are at my house, and I have no way to track all of this.

I don't care who is at fault. I am just angry at all involved. First because I was promised something and not delivered it. Second because now my books could be ruined if they have been delivered. Third because I don't want to download a sketchy app on my phone that wants permission to everything just to open the zip file.

Since Pathfinder came out I have always been pro paizo, but this may be the push that has me switch to 5e. Like it all matters, after all I'm just one disappointed and angry person. So it's not like my opinion matters on this.

Please, take a few minutes to telephone someone to pick up your books and hold them for you until you return. Surely you know at least one neighbor or acquaintance who would be willing to do that.

vic im glad your working so hard to keep up with our complaints and worry paizo wouldnt be the same without you diago and shera i think i spelled her name right lol

So basically if you don’t have your order by the 9th in Australia forget about the Doomsday Dawn playtest you’ll be too far behind to meet the deadlines since you probably won’t see your books till September

Not really; the PDFs are free and we can download them whenever we want. I certainly have. Sure, many of us (myself included) would prefer to playtest with physical books, but it's a bit of a stretch to say that we'll miss out entirely. Is it ideal? No. Am I going to "forget about the Doomsday Dawn playtest"? Also no.

While players can use the PDFS many tables have players who won’t play without physical books (such as the players at my table), just because I am willing ti use PDFs doesn’t make things OK when you pay money you expect to get things on time not well after everyone else has already gotten it for free, what was the point of a preorder if you still don’t get things on time.

That is the players own choice then, if they choose not to participate with the PDF version instead of the printed versions.

The point of the preorder was to make sure that the print run was as closely matched with the number of copies demanded. Expectations are not laws, reality does not conform to something just because we wish it. (Otherwise Paizo would not have to be refunding customers and negotiating with Amazon over further resolutions.)

WOW. US order here and still no delivery of my order today...I could have bought it all a dozen times over at local retailers...

Hopefully for future orders we can be informed on what delivery service Paizo plans to use because i honestly don't think i'll directly order if it is going through Amazon again...Highly disappointing.

That being said. Thanks for all the clarity and for informing all of us on what is going on. Hopefully you can get Amazon to give a lot back to you guys to make up for this GIGANTIC FAIL.

This.

I mean, if you really want a physical book, you CAN just download the PDF and print it.

Since they had announced it would be fulfilled by Amazon from the very start, I expect they will be just as transparent in delivery method next year.

On Your Coattails

Amazon delivery can be crappy from time to time. Even with Prime Membership. That said, I was not planning on purchasing the print book, just printout the PDF. When I saw the sheer size of the PDF I decided to buy the paperback. I ordered it on Amazon Monday - it wasn't going to be available till Friday. It looks like I'm getting it today via UPS. I think all the late delivery problems Amazon is having has given me a benefit of expedited UPS shipping.

Just got a delivery date update from Amazon UK ...

Arriving 20 Aug - 4 Sep

Ho hum :-(

Has anyone in the UK got the books from Amazon ?

I ordered a special edition hardback from Paizo. That book has not delivered yet. It's supposed to arrive this coming Thursday. The module and a regular hardback I ordered from Amazon. The module arrived on the 2nd like everything was supposed to. The normal hardback came on Monday.

My delivery (not expected until Sep 6th) arrived in London today, so things weren't as bad as they could be :)

When I asked about the impact of the shipment timing on the playtest earlier in the thread, Vic wrote: "The playtest surveys don't have hard closing deadlines, and we'll be reading the forums for many months to come."

The delay's still not fun, but you're not going to miss out on the playtest.

While I appreciate the communication, I would appreciate a credit to my card for the price of shipping. No more and no less. A round figure of $15 might be nice and extra for some, but it would be better to just refund what people spent. I mean, do I get to pick what I want the credit for? Which product? Will it expire.

Not too happy with either Amazon or Paizo's shipping right now.

Yes, the store credit will go to what you want to use it for. If you have subscriptions, check to make sure they are not set to use store credit first. I don't think it is enabled by default, but it doesn't hurt to check.

Dark Archive

Unfortunately, I have not received mine yet. Guess I wasn't the NC order that was supposed to arrive today :)

I know they listed a deadline for British Columbia for today, any deadline for Alberta?

I have been informed that the differences I was seeing were due to orders that were "fully prepared but haven't yet left the fulfillment center," which is currently about 6%, and that the percentage of orders yet to be processed is less than 1%.

It appears that the current state is that 98.4% of orders have shipped, and of the remainder, all but 9 are "fully prepared but haven't yet left the fulfillment center."

My book finally arrived today just before I had to leave for work. A big thanks to the Paizo team for being honest about all this.

Canadian deliveries are evenly spread out until August 10, with a few outliers—to Newfoundland and Yukon—on August 13.

Not too happy with either Amazon or Paizo's shipping right now.

Paizo is not to blame, or at least way less then Amazon. They foresaw they might have issues with shipping so they outsourced it to a party known to being able to handle millions of parcels a day.

And they apparently can since people ordering from amazon had the books already.

As Vic has said before the 15 dollar store credit is something from Paizo. Amazon is the party that should make an offer to make us happier. If Amazon starts refunding the 15 dollar credit is still yours. From my point of view I dont see anything wrong on Paizos end. They will learn from this and use this knowledge in the future for other big releases.

And then, to be honest, the damage done by delay should be refunded, not the shipping costs. Somebody ordering it to play one last time with a Pathfinder fan on their deathbed would have more damage than me, someone who is currently reading the PDF and setting up a new group.

Rather than spamming the thread with order #s is there a polite way of asking about an order?

Ugh! I didn't get mine today, and also in Portland, OR. They are only about a 3 hour drive, and I would have gladly driven up there to get it if it meant I could have had it by now. (And the store down the street has has it since the release to sell to customers and I pre-ordered mine month ago.) I think it might be time to reconsider subscription service and get it through the FLGS. I finally think I need to see the end of 1.0 as a stopping point and enjoy my many decades of gaming I have!

Love Paizo, but after years of being a loyal subscriber, seeing this as a sign of an ending and time to just enjoy what I have!

Chipmunk I'm kinda thinking the same thing.

I would suggest waiting for the update where they say they are sorry(once again) explain what went wrong and what they will do in the future to avoid it.

Wow, came home from work to discover my Playtest rulebook on my doorstep. As I've said earlier, I'm in Australia (NSW) I was genuinely sure I wouldn't see it for another week or two at the very earliest. I was steeling myself to wait until September.

The packaging was fully open, and my book vulnerable to the elements (thankfully it didn't rain or snow today) but on inspection it was still (somehow) in flawless condition, so while I am confused and concerned about it arriving like it did I can't really complain.

Anyway, thank you Paizo for being so communicative about this and I hope everyone else gets their books ASAP.

Glad you got your order ...

Now if Amazon UK could only manage to get out to Reading, which is what, 55 miles from London !!

Manchester UK here, and I received my books yesterday.
I'd resigned myself to the fact that it would be early September before I received them so pleasantly surprised.

So there is hope still for anyone in the UK still waiting, you might be like me and be lucky enough to get your delivery sooner than September.

I am super happy for everyone who has received their shipment, but I have no idea what the status of my order is. Paizo's website says it's complete, yet I don't have the books. I have no idea how to check and see where my books are and whether I should be patient a while longer or start raising hell.

This is extremely frustrating and while I love Paizo, I really wish I'd just waited until GenCon to buy everything.

I think that part of the issue that should be addressed for the future is the capability of people who ordered product from Paizo but got shipped through Amazon. People should be able to track their products in 2018. That would alleviate much of the distress.

One thousand times this ^

Assuming I'm not one of the last dozen to ship its been a week and domestic shipping doesn't take this long.(usually)

Honestly, if I get the book and its not damaged I'll be happy... but knowing where its at would be great.

At what point do we US customers ask what happened to ours? I mean I live in Seattle, I would have HOPED that it would have arrived already, but as of yesterday there was nothing.

Is there a way to find out what service they are using for my shipment? Neither UPS nor USPS sees any shipments coming to me within the next month.

Mine arrived today via US mail small town in north Alabama. In fair condition with a dent on the top edge of the back page, The box was loosely sealed, but not dented.

I've refrained from posting until now, but my impatience and disappointment lead me to comment.

You guys have been great about informing us about what happened and about where we're at with Amazon's shipping status and that's a big step.

I have to say that it feels like there were some pre-steps that should have been taken to make sure the shipping was on track. Hindsight is 20-20 so I'm sure that you've updated your processes should you use Amazon again.

In addition, while it is a fact that you used Amazon as a delivery service and they may have created this problem for you, it's Paizo's responsibility to own it. Your $15 was a good attempt at that ownership.

My current issue is that we have no feedback on tracking where our deliveries are. We all know that Amazon has this capability and is able to give you order status. Since they are at fault, I don't think it would be unreasonable for you to request that traceability and share it with us. Knowing that the packages have shipped is cool, but knowing when they will arrive is better.

I will say that personally I went from giddy excitement to daily disappointment on the playtest. I'm an old grognard and I comment sparingly, but I am feeling frustrated by this process and checking a forum post for any updates on those last 9 packages (and knowing in my heart that I'm probably one of those).

Starfinder Superscriber

And of course, if you complain it shows up at the house. I'm really surprised by that.

So I have an interesting conundrum.
I ordered the Playtest Rulebook, Flip-Mat and Doomsday Dawn.
Amazon tracking says that they sent me 3 items, package weight 4lbs.

When my box arrived last week (Saturday) it had the Rulebook and Flip-Mat with a packing list that listed those 2 items.

Now that I went into my account to see if my Adventure has shipped yet I found the notice that Amazon sent all 3.

I've recycled the box and the packing slip- my garbage day is Tuesday and have no clue how to yell at Amazon for screwing me out of my book.

Just got my books in! Lovely little things. Honestly I was starting to think I was never going to get them. So much reading to do and get the guys together for some play testing.
