PaizoCon 2022 Logo PaizoCon Online 2022

Thank you all for your patience as we work out the first ever hybrid PaizoCon. There’s lots of moving pieces with this event and the current world situation makes it even more challenging. We hope to answer lots of question in this blog, but know there will always be more, so please ask away in the comments and we will get you answers.

Guest of Honor

We are very pleased to announce longtime Paizo freelancer Vanessa Hoskins as our Guest of Honor for this PaizoCon. She will be appearing on several livestreams and events. Keep an eye on our schedule for more information. If you haven’t gotten a chance to meet Vanessa, here’s a bit about her:

Vanessa Hoskins got her start in the RPG industry in 2013 by writing monster blogs and other 3rd party work for 2 years. Her first Paizo release was 2015's "From Under Ice," a Pathfinder Society scenario. Since then, she’s written several small-form adventures for Pathfinder and Starfinder Society, including the groundbreaking evergreen adventure "From the Tome of Righteous Repose." She's authored numerous adventure paths including Starfinder's The Cradle Infestation (#29), Pathfinder's Hand of the Devil (#164), and Outlaws of Alkenstar (#178). Vanessa has contributed to numerous rules systems, player options, and other game mechanics for Paizo across the Pathfinder and Starfinder systems. In addition to serving on the board of directors at the Know Direction Network, she is a host of the Know Direction podcast and stars in their Adventurous! actual play. She is a cast member for the Fall of Plaguestone and Three Ring Adventure actual plays on Roll for Combat. Vanessa co-authors Vellum & Lace, the first piece of serialized Pathfinder fiction on Pathfinder Infinite, with Helen Savore. Finally, she's recently started Ninja Cat Games, an indie video game studio. She does all of this while living in upstate New York with her brilliant wife and their adorable cat.

Hotel Block

The physical convention is being held at theDoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Seattle Airport. To book a room in the Paizo block, follow this link or call their toll-free reservation number at (800) 222-TREE (that is, (800) 222-8733) and reference the group code PZC or group name PaizoCon. Be sure to book your room soon, as spaces are limited.

Tickets

When we decided to do a physical PaizoCon, we knew it needed to be a smaller show than in prior years. We set the number of attendees at 500, not including staff, organized play GMs, and partner guests. We hoped this would balance safety concerns with our ability to deliver a great show. Unfortunately, with our reduced cap for the physical show, we have no tickets available at this time. We continue to reach out to ticketholders and process refunds and will update if we do get inventory to sell, but at this time it looks unlikely.

The good news is that there are plenty of tickets for PaizoCon Online and they are available now! You can purchase them by clicking here and add them to your cart.

Schedule

We’re currently putting the final touches on our streaming schedule and will be posting it to the PaizoCon Warhorn event listing as well as putting an image up on the PaizoCon website once available. With the streaming schedule finalized, we will shift our focus onto polishing up the physical show schedule so it can be uploaded as well. It is our goal to have all these schedules put in-place well before event registration occurs.

Event Registration

Thank you all so much for your patience. The signup dates for games have been revised as follows:

Wednesday, May 4, 2022 9:00 AM: Early GM signups open to qualifying GMs
Friday, May 6, 2022 9:00 AM: Player signups open to Warhorn VIP members
Saturday, May 7, 2022 9:00 AM: Player signups open to all players, including Author tables
Monday, May 9, 2022 9:00 AM: Seats at in-person VIP tables open to all

Let us know in the comments what other questions, if any, we can answer for you. Looking forward to seeing everyone online or at the physical show!

I just started listening to Roll for Combat! Super excited to hear Vanessa speak (hopefully it won't be while I'm GMing).

I can't remember what Con did it - maybe PaizoCon online or online Europe? - but one Con had the option of running tables for specials in person away from the Con. Is that an option here? I realize it's a bit late to ask this but it's an evolving situation.

Thanks!

We're going to be running the special online & in-person simultaneously. We're not doing any sort of satellite physical locations at this time; maybe we'll look at adding that extra layer for next year, but we've got enough on our plates for this year!

Is there an earliest date for the next step on the signups (GM signups to play)? Not a promise of when, but simply of 'not before', i.e. check back by?

This is disgusting, and disappointing. Basically, you had to have signed up two years ago to get tickets this year.

It's in the blog now, but your cache may not have caught up yet.

Congratulations Vanessa!

As far as PaizoCon, I have not been really concerned with the signups as it’s been way better being able to sign up on Warhorn instead of having to do the lottery thing. I would much rather have this done right than rushed for no particular reason.

Can we request a specific table/scenario beforehand, like building a list at GenCon, or is it first come, first serve?

If you're listening to Roll For Combat, you've already heard me speak. :-D

Seriously, thank you so much. I'm looking forward to it!

Congratulations Vanessa, to be honest, I was not aware of the staggering volume of products you have already authored - and to start with a standout scenario like "From Under Ice" (I have run this a fair number of times and always enjoyed it).

Oh, thank you so much! Yeah, From Under Ice turned into a bit of a travel log filled with purple prose, but I still love it!

Sadly I no longer have the 3D terrain for it; it became infested with giant spiders.

I now have this visual of the terrain just off to side out of frame with a bunch of spiders just squatting in it and throwing a barbecue.

There were a few dead fly husks in there, so you're not too far off.

I thought storing it in the garage was a good idea because it's large. It was not a good idea because of bugs.

If you are interested in trying to GM, send an email to paizoorgplayhq@gmail.com. We will work to see if we can fit you in where we have holes in our schedule. This goes for online as well as in-person.

It will be first come, first serve when event sign-ups open, starting on May 4th for GMs.

qualifying GM in terms of early signup is 2 blocks if that was the question.

Hi all, and congrats to Vanessa!

One question: to play at the PbP tables will I still need to buy a ticket for the convention?

Yes. A badge is required to play games.

Looked at the lineup on Warhorn. It looks like a good selection. However I wish there was a single filter for online vs. in-person. Or Online Game, PBP, and Physical Game. There are around 30 filter check boxes for online, if I try it.

This is, in part, due to feedback we received last year that there weren't enough filter options and people had trouble getting games to load on a single page where they could view each slot or each day separately. It also reduces the load on Warhorn (hopefully avoiding any site crashes that also happened last year, of which we have had 0 so far this year...knock on wood).

Is there a PFS Special this year? And what day/slot?

IIRC, no PFS special, the new one debuts at GenCon and they aren't scheduling last years. The new SFS special debuts at PaizoCon though.

Where will GM signups occur? Will it be on Paizo’s Discord server, at the Organized Play Foundation Website, or another website or location?

I sent an email on April 5th about this and I haven't seen a response.

The original order numbers for my PaizoCon 2020 ticket was 10782622 and 12929103. I believe that was 3 total tickets between the two orders? Can you confirm that I have tickets to the 2022 physical event?

I already took the days off work to go to the event.

Is there any chance of getting a schedule of events (or even a list of participants) any time soon? We are less than a month away and I still don't know what will be happening there or when.

I would like to sign up for games when they become available, but don't want to conflict with other interesting activities.

The convention site has less information than the two blog posts here.

The convention isn't even listed on Paizo's convention calendar: https://paizo.com/conventions

Should I be concerned about this thing actually happening?

For how long will PaizoCon Online run? I see it'll start on the 27th of May, but when will the PbP games end?

PBP GM's been given a deadline to finish and complete reporting of PBP games no later than 12 July, 2359 Paizo Time.

Question for the in-person con:

First off, my order history shows qty. two 2020 tickets converted to 2022. I got Warhorn confirmation for me. Yay.

But the usual e-ticket spot on the paizo site doea not show 2022 tickets. How do I transfer my second ticket to my wife's account, so she can also signup on Warhorn?

I've had a support ticket in since April 7th with no non-robot response. (Ref. #152428) Since signups start soon, I'm starting to feel anxious!

I believe I replied to your question tonight. The rollover of the tickets has caused some display issues.

To transfer a ticket, we just need the paizo.com email address for the person we are transferring the ticket to.

Tonya: confirmed, and thanks!

I've (just now) replied to your message with my wife's email address. ^^

Just wondering if walk ups are possible for the con if a spot is still free? Can't be there for the whole weekend and sign up before hand, but might be able to join a sinlge slot, happy to contribute for a single game. Thank you.

Hey Tonya, Paizo Org HQ just confirmed this Tuesday ticket transfer did not occur. We are still locked out of game signups tomorrow.

Could you confirm/do the needful?
