OPM Musings

Sighing, Janira puts her quill down, reaching for the cup of tea sitting next to her on the desk. Cautiously she takes a sip, testing the temperature before settling back into her seat and finishing the cup. “Well, that’s done,” she murmurs at the papers before her, before glancing at the stack sitting neatly on the back corner of the desk. She sets the empty cup back on its saucer, then picks up her quill and retrieves the top paper from the stack. “Once more into the breach, old friend. Let’s get this wrapped quickly, so that we can go see how the newest initiates fared on the obstacle course. I bet Marcos the newest Envoy’s would get through fastest and I want to see if I won.”

AcP and GM Credits

We made great strides on resolving the issues in the AcP program. The quests are now giving the correct number of points – 1 per player and 2 per GM – as well as reflecting any bumps for Premier and Premier Plus events. Those multiplier bumps levelled out at 1.25 for a Premier event and 1.5 for a Premier Plus event. This multiplier goes with the base points for the type of adventure being run. So, playing a scenario is usually 4, becomes 5 at a Premier event and 6 at a Premier Plus event. Running a scenario earns a GM 8 points, with 10 points at a Premier event and 12 at a Premier Plus. When you look at your My Organized Play page, you will see AcP listed in two columns. The first is the base points that type of game earns. The second, on the far right, notes the amount of points you earned, ie base times any event multipliers.

What does this mean for launch? It is imminent. We found one small bug – all boons sheets generated by the program awarded them to Org Play #8. We’re pretty sure Linda needs ALL the boons and are working to fix the code so that it populates a purchaser’s org play number. Once that change is made, we should be good to launch the purchasing.

This also means we are REMOVING the free rebuild boon from those available. At this point, we plan to remove that boon 2 weeks after we launch AcP purchases. We will include a rebuild boon on the AcP reward chart, but it will cost. If you are planning on doing any character rebuilds, I highly encourage you to do so now!

For those watching, you’ve also seen GM credit appear for Starfinder Society games – it was listing 0 for a long time – and for Pathfinder Society (second edition) tables. We fixed the Nova image display a bit ago and just uploaded the Glyph. Those should be showing up on accounts shortly. The new rating system is built and we’re getting trained on how to implement it so that we can get five stars/nova (and soon glyph) status updated via the new method. We will catch up all those who earned the status but haven’t seen their fifth star appear, so that should be resolved shortly as well.

There is one outstanding issue with Glyph GM credit that we need to resolve. That is Quests are currently awarding 1 table credit. It is not our intention that a GM can run Quests as a way to reach their 5th Glyph faster than a GM who runs scenarios. Thus, we are changing Glyps to award award partial credit - .25 as they are one-quarter of a scenario. At the same time, we are looking at modules and adventure paths and what an appropriate GM credit would be for the longer form adventures. We anticipate this will lead to several bands of GM credit based on the size/length of the adventure. These changes are ongoing and should be resolved shortly.

Whew – that was a bit of information. But there’s still more topics to cover.

Origins/ConCurrent

PaizoCon Online resulted in running over 1200 games – many more than we would run at a traditional PaizoCon. Knowing the demand for online games, we submitted 450ish to Origins Online. Unfortunately, they were only able to accept 100 of our tables. This accounts for 10% of all Origins programming, which is a large portion. But what to do with the other 350ish tables? Seeing the demand for PaizoCon, we didn’t want to cancel the tables. Instead of cancelling, we decided to run ConCurrent. It will function as a Premier Plus Con with all the associated benefits. The only difference is that we are providing HQ and admin support via our online discord server, same as we did for PaizoCon.

While we aren’t going to reopen GM signups or add more RPG games, we do have a few vacancies for GMs as well as space in our on-call pool, which will allow us to cover GM illness or those that don’t show for their tables without stress. If you are interested in assisting, please join the OPF Major Conventions discord, join the Origins Online channel and post in the #gm-waitlist thread.

A bit of oversight on our part led to us not listing PACS games/taking PACS organizer registrations at the same time we did the RPG GM registrations. We added the PACS tables to our schedule and are asking anyone interested in running PACS at Origins Online/ConCurrant to join the OPF Major Conventions discord and visit the #gm-selection tab to register to be table organizer for games.

Gen Con

Gen Con released information about getting our events on their schedule, so we are moving forward with requesting OPF for GMs for Gen Con. Once again, we will do registration through the OPF Major Conventions discord starting Saturday, June 6th at 1 PM. We post the schedule on the server and GMs may claim games on a first come, first served registration. The current plan is to offer tables of all our programs – Pathfinder Society (both editions), Starfinder Society, and Pathfinder Adventure Card Society. Once we have our schedule, we will upload it to Gen Con systems so that they can put tickets on sale. For players interested in attending Gen Con, register to attend and view events on the Gen Con website.

Campaign Coins

We awarded a number of coins at the end of PaizoCon Online. Congratulations to the newest recipients and thank you for all the effort you put into organized play.

Stars, Novas & Glyphs

We didn’t have anyone reach their 5th Nova or Star this month. For those waiting on displays of 5 stars behind your name, we hope to have them appear soon as part of the Achievement Point resolution. The counts of Glyphs are moving upward and I know we have people running games, so we can’t wait to see them show up on people’s accounts!

Convention Listing

Many of the conventions planned for the upcoming months have needed to cancel or postpone due to shelter in place orders, but several others moved their events online. We’ve listed the status for each event, but please check their websites or notices for any last minute changes.

This has been asked on multiple discord servers, but I'd love some clarification myself! I still don't see guidelines on the rebuild boon. Do we have to select our character options upon receiving the boon? Or can get the boon and not play the character until APG is sanctioned?

Thanks for all your hard work getting the AcP system working! It sounds like you're saying we should now see the correct number of AcP next to scenarios we've run; if we're still seeing problems (like some quests giving 0.00 AcP) should we report them, or are there still more fixes on the way we should wait for?

Thanks so much for all that you do!

Do we know if the tables for Starfinder are correct? My totals were higher in February, and I'm wondering if they're tallying AP books correctly.

Congratulations to all the campaign coin holders! You all do fantastic work, not just with PaizoCon Online, but throughout the year.

It looks like I am not receiving ACP for GMing repeat tables.

Is this intended? (I would hope not, as every time I gm a scenario a second time it’s either because no one else was available, or because I enjoy sharing the story; GMs should be rewarded for their effort).

I'm hoping its a bug. If its not, it really changes the calculus for running lots of sessions at some cons.

All scenarios before 1-14 appear to give ACP when run multiple times. Fall of Plaguestone and everything after 1-14 fails to give credit when run multiple times (not sure about quests, don't have any that I've run twice/couldn't find anyone in my lodge to compare notes with). If the scenario triggers the 'Player has run ...." message in the notes field is when no ACP is awarded. All the old scenarios are mis-categorized as repeatable in the reporting system, which is why old scenarios don't trigger this. If they fix the old scenarios saying they're repeatable, lots of ACP might poof.

Thank you Mike (and all the others!), still a bit shocked at the coin! It's awesome just seeing everyone get online and watching the results, having everyone enjoy all the games being played and people finding out for the first time about all the cool things we've learned you can do in an online format. But it's also really nice to know it's appreciated so much <3

Great to see AcP so close to the finish line, it's been a ton of work and both the Organised Play team and the Paizo tech team deserve so many thanks for driving on with this and pushing to get it sorted asap!

I know this might be asking for what you can't reveal yet, but, regarding Age of Ashes, do you know how many GM Credits books 1,2 & 3 will be worth? A couple of big ifs but my game this Saturday could be my 100th pfs2 table and I'd kinda like to know if it is :)

Once PaizoCon is fully reported I'm at 90, if those three chapters are 3 each, and are retroactively reportable, then Saturday's game is a nice milestone.

Here's the list of error categories I've reported with event code and session information. The bolded one is the one they mention in the blog post. Aside from the last two, I've seen/heard about multiple occurrences of all of them. There were about 3 more categories on my list last week and the got those fixed.

  • Scenario granting 1 ACP, no GM credit
  • Repeated Non-Repeatable Scenarios/Modules After 1-14 Give No ACP
  • Quest giving Scenario ACP
  • Correct GM credit, no ACP, w/o a repeat note
  • Quests appear to give arbitrary GM credit (either 0 or 1) rather than 0.25
  • Correct ACP, no GM Credit
  • Sum of individual listed GM credits != total GM tables in the summary
  • Sum of individual listed ACP != total ACP listed
  • 1e GM Credit for 2e scenario
  • 2e GM Credit for 1e module

Congrats to the new coin holders! Well earned!

I am still trying to understand why not all of my sessions for PF2 are granting AcP. Can anyone explain to me the criteria on whether or not a scenario is counted, or point me to a link doing so?

I'm asking since it appears that according to the above blog post the general errors are supposed to have been fixed. I have been a player, not a GM.

Edited to add: I at first thought it was just that repeatables were not counted and that was the discrepancy I saw, but there are non-repeatables in the list of my scenarios that aren't getting counted.

There is a warhorn event for it, but it is currently closed. Events still need to be created and GM's matched with their sign-ups. Stay tuned for more info. I imagine you can watch the warhorn page or our online region discord server for info regarding player sign-ups. The latter is a great way to stay in-touch with online happenings in general.

Robert Bollerman wrote:

I'm not sure on e-mails, but for running games at Origins/GenCon the info is being passed out through the OPF Major Conventions server. Note that Origin GM sign-ups are closed but you can still be a back-up GM. GenCon GM sign-ups open TOMORROW 6/6 at 4pm EST. Here are the instructions for GenCon GM sign-up

Also, hope you have fun this weekend. I miss family time games, though we're going to stay away from social gatherings for a while yet.

Sandra Wilkinson wrote:

For VO's there is the OP VO server, and there is a channel dedicated to these reports that the OP staff watches. For the non-VO's I'm not sure how OP staff is wanting those reports

Astrael wrote:

I think the blog is just mentioning that previously the AcP values for different event categories weren't necessarily the right amounts. For instance GM's earned less than what Paizo wanted for standard events. That's been resolved but if I understand correctly there are still some bugs with certain events and/or scenarios not showing the right amounts. It's getting there and definitely has been getting more accurate over time.

Many thanks to the congratulations from everyone. I want to echo what Richard has said-- I too was and still am a bit shocked. I started volunteering in the online region years ago and have really enjoyed connecting players who otherwise wouldn't get to play. I know that it's a minor problem, but all of the Quests I've GMed are still showing as 1 AcP rather than 2; unless this is meant to be saying that the system is working but not gone live yet.

I boosted Eric's post above, but yeah, about half of my sessions are currently incorrect when it comes to ACP... None of the sessions I GMed are correct (6), and about half of my played sessions just list no ACP whatsoever.

I think you're mixing the free level 1 rebuild that is always available for all characters - you can rebuild your character freely as long as it hasn't been played at level 2+ - with the Free Rebuild Boon that you can "purchase" from the boon page for free (currently). After AcP system goes online, this free rebuild boon will be removed after 2 weeks, and then you can spend acp to purchase a rebuild.

Also, the rebuild was announced back in september but back then, it was supposed to be just

Quote:
"The window for applying this boon will close on September 19th. Rebuilding will continue to appear on the Achievement Points chart after that date, but it will no longer be a free option."

Presumably, the free rebuild BOON didn't get removed because the launch of AcP has been delayed.
