Monday, April 27, 2020

Get ready to stay safe at home as you play awesome Pathfinder and Starfinder games with friends around the world!

Paizo is excited to announce that PaizoCon 2020 will be online! The annual game convention of all-things-Paizo, originally scheduled for Memorial Day Weekend in Seattle, will fall-back, regroup, and expand to six days of gaming at a safe social distance online May 26-31.

The event will include seminars and live-plays on Twitch, games scheduled via Warhorn and run on a variety of VTT platforms such as Roll20, Fantasy Grounds, Astral, and D20Pro, an official PaizoCon Online Discord server as a general hangout for con-goers, plus blogs on paizo.com, and more!

A PaizoCon Online 2020 homepage with schedules, game registration, and more details is scheduled to go live on May 1. Players can create a paizo.com account and get an organized play number in preparation today. GMs can sign up at Warhorn. For more information, email paizocononline@paizo.com.

I think Warhorn fixed this in the last year or so and now properly locks out overlapping time slots, need to check to be sure though.

That would be neat, I have to admit that I had no reason to check this recently ^^

You think that was bad, suddenly I had games that were 9 hours early...was very confusing.

So I've never played in any PFS games or run any, but I do run a home game in PF2 every week on a VTT and I've seen PFS materials before so I know what to expect game design wise. I'm interested in running one as a GM for paizocon but it sounds like table numbers might be limited. Is it advisable to sign up or save the space for experienced PFS2 gms. As a secondary question, does the warhorn first come, first seated policy mean that people don't sign up in groups or with friends? I'm excited about the potential to finally meet the greater Pathfinder community but I'm wondering if it's even worth encouraging by players to sign up if some of them would feel shy about going in alone. And even more generally, how does organized play work? Do organizers come in on rule questions or does the GM just do their best to keep it running fairly and the table helps to their best as well?

Will there be announcements on future products or will that be a wait and see?

Yes, those will occur in the various seminars our staff will be running on Tuesday thru Friday.

Unfortunately, this issue still exists. Warhorn only restricts signups if the two events occur in the exact same session. Otherwise, you can overlap. Example. A PF2 scenario is scheduled to run in a noon-5pm slot. An ACS scenario is scheduled to run concurrently in a noon-2pm slot. Warhorn will allow you to signup for both. So it will be important for players to review their personal schedule and make sure they didn't inadvertently sign up to play overlapping events.

And hopefully we'll have a forum thread or some other method for y'all to talk about the puzzles together, and for us to give you hints if needed!

Possibly only tangentially related, but is anyone else having trouble viewing individual events in Warhorn right now, or is it just me?

Would seem to be... bad.

Warhorn is working on some system improvements today so it has minimal functionality right now

Go for it! An experienced GM is always great to have. And the best part of PaizoCon is the players you meet - would definitely encourage your players to join in. If they want to pair up, it's not too hard to find tables with two open, just needs a little coordination. GMs generally handle the rules, barring really unusual situations.

Thank you! That's really encouraging to hear and I'm definitely going to sign up and urge my players to try it out as well. I'll see you guys in the Lodge.

Shadow Lodge

Signups are about 20 minutes away, but I'm still only seeing the bulk of games on Tuesday, and a smattering of quests and card games on other days. And many of the Tuesday games only show the noon slot on daily view but a second slot in calendar view. Um... Is this getting fixed before signups start?

Shadow Lodge

Sorry, misread the start time.

Nearly all the events are now listed in the schedule. Warhorn is showing some errors in operation so you might have to view the calendar one day at a time in order to get all the events to display. We have confirmed they are there, but some calendar options are not working correctly. If they fix it, we'll let you know.

Just know that in every two-hour slot, we are offering all the PACS season six scenarios plus the standalone. Also, all the PFS2 Quests are listed as well.

In the five-hour slots, we have a healthy list of PFS1 scenarios going all the way back to Mists of Mwangi, all the PFS2 scenarios, and all the SFS scenarios since 2-05.

We also have a smattering of non-OPF events that should stand out against our schedule.

Remember, this is the GM signup phase and only events with GMs will be retained. The rest will be deleted when the GM registration window closes.

The one event that is not listed yet is the ACS special on Saturday afternoon. We are waiting on a description so it can be build into the catalog. We are expecting to have it in the schedule by the time we open it for GM signups.

The next time the 18th is on a Saturday is 2024. I hope players don't have to wait 4 years to sign up.

Given the amount of time travelling that's happened at work lately -- It's still 2020, right? -- I'm not surprised it seems like years until the next signup.

The life of an 'essential' worker. The last two months have been nearly action-packed two years of 'Holiday Rush Season', but with macabre overtones...

This is actually one reason why the OPF was founded. Paizo ran into some legal trouble years ago operating as a for-profit company requesting volunteers in the state of Washington, where such volunteers are supposed to be compensated with wages.

As a non-profit, the OPF doesn't have that issue.

I would like to point out that this player did attempt to join us in a recent con that I had setup, and reached out to me to figure out how to do signups on Warhorn at the time. I stated that I would be happy to help them, and sign them up for any events they were interested in playing. No response was ever received to this, but I think that would be a great starting point if for some reason Warhorn is unable to implement what is needed in time.

Discussion about accessibility is a valid and important one, if there isn't an existing thread about this, I think this topic would be best served by having a thread dedicated to it specifically rather than continue trying to share the spotlight with this one. If one is started, it can be linked in this thread to point people to that direction.

In the meantime, please remember to be gracious with other community members.

Perhaps I was not direct enough in my initial comment: If you want to continue discussing online accessibility, take it to its own thread, either an ongoing thread if there is one, or starting a new thread. Please reflect on the topic at hand and what has already been posted, do some research if needed, and be compassionate and gracious in what you post.

Removed some posts. Here are both of Sara Marie's previous posts. You can create a new thread for this if you'd like, but this one is not the place for it.

Current thoughts (2 hours before GM signups are supposed to open:

1. It looks like the weekday time slots are breaking really badly for people in Eastern and Central time zones. (a.k.a. me) I am not available in the day and probably won't be able to do an 8pm to 1am time slot. It was going to be bad for someone, so I'm not complaining about it being unfair, just grumbling.

2. There's still a lot of empty space, especially over the weekend.

If you mean holes in the schedule, as I mentioned up thread, Warhorn is glitchy. Depending on how you try to view the schedule all the listings may not appear. The best chance is to look at one day at a time in agenda view. All the slots have the same offerings so if you are not seeing something, its a Warhorn error. We have confirmed that all the listings are entered. The error is beyond our control. Sorry

Sovereign Court

That's alot of scheduled games!

Yeah my warhorn is only showing one game scheduled on Sunday in the monthly calendar view, but when I click on the date, all the other games appear!

Belafon, Did you notice there is a quest slot each night at 8PM-10PM (6PM-8PM PDT) in the weekdays? Might work better if you wanted to game a bit each night, but can't stay up too late. (Edit- If you are interested in PF2 or the PACS)

Be nice if the Time was listed on the details. The list is so long, its hard to find the Time headers.

The monthly/weekly views are a bit glitchy with so many sessions.

We’ve seen a great response for PaizoCon Online so far. Of the more than 2800 events available in the schedule more than 600 tables have a GM in just the first half day activity. We have managed to work through a few technical issues and the general attitude in the Discord chats is very positive and excited for the event. If you are thinking about GMing, check it out. There are still hundreds of games available from all four game systems.

In case you are wondering, we do have GM rewards. First, for every block you run, you will receive a $10 voucher good in the Paizo online web store. We will have a GM boon for anyone who runs PFS1 or SFS. As we prepare for the launch of AcP, this is a premier plus event, so you will receive the maximum reward for events at PaizoCon Online 2020. Also, if you volunteer for four or more blocks, you will gain 24-hour early access to the player signups when they go live in a couple weeks. You’ll be limited to only signing up for as many slots as your are GMing during that window, but it’s a little extra thank you for our most dedicated GMs.

We are really excited about the response so far and look forward to seeing more GMs jumping in over the next couple weeks. If the player response is anything like what we’ve seen so far, this event is going to be massive. Going in, we had no idea how the community would respond. Thank you for the support and...

Are there plans to organize and provide a list of games by which Virtual Table Top system games will be run through (Roll20, Fantasy Grounds, Astral Table Top)?

Grand Lodge Premier Event Coordinator

Be sure to read the entry page notes on Warhorn and to follow the official Discord channel for announcements. GMs will be adding which VTT they will be using in the notes for the specific event. Players can use that information to help decide which games to register for and to prep their character in advance.

I hope that VTTs (especially Roll20 which seems to be the most popular choice) will be able to cope with the demand and won't go down in the middle of gaming.

If roll20 can handle D&D 5e, it can handle a sudden slight uptick in a PF. Besides, roll20 is running on Amazon Web Services, this means pretty much infinite resources available.

This and other events prove that good society play can be had virtually, as well as in person. I hope this event convinces Paizo to offer, or encourage, a great deal more virtual play. Further, I hope they will have a virtual PaizoCon every year, even if they also have a physical one.

I didn't read through the thread. But what is the point of not scheduling anything on Sunday after 11 AM? It's not exactly a travel day after all?

Anyway initial excitement over this event has been nullified by having to work 8 to 5 Monday through Friday leaving only a few time slots I can sign up for. I'm sure I'm not alone and games in those time slots that I can sign up for will go very quickly.

Grand Lodge

There are games scheduled on Sunday, just in the morning. (Warhorn's calendar view can't handle displaying the large amount of sessions, so you have to look at the individual day.)

Sorry, I'm old I'm not staying up to the AM hours and I am not getting up before 6 AM to play a game. Sleep deprivation is painful.

Paizo had the opportunity to be schedule flexible and offset the time slots so the work on both coasts, but with typical Paizo arrogance - we're just going to do things our way and Customers have to deal with it.
