Miracles Happen!

Wednesday, January 29, 2020

In my short time here at Paizo, I’ve learned that the production of a book is never an exact science. We know approximately how many words fit on a page and how much space a piece of art takes up. Even with these estimates, there’s always some content that does not make it onto the page. Sometimes, it feels like our books are actively working against us, constantly reshaping themselves and proceeding to taunt us about how we couldn’t fit everything we wanted into the book.

Once again, the books have teamed up with their old ally, physics, to taunt us once more. Even with the power of the gods in our hands, there was some cool content that we had to cut from Lost Omens Gods & Magic. Luckily, we have more tools to fight back against the literary menace known as “a lack of space”—free PDFs! We’ve collected a lot of cool stuff from the cutting room floor, dusted it off, cleaned it up, and are sharing with it you today!

Arazni, goddess of the abused, dignity, and unwilling undeath, stands at the ready while wielding her rapier.

Art by Ksenia Kozhevnikova

Gods & Magic introduced divine intercessions which allow deities to grant boons and curses to characters that have gained the attention of the gods. The book provides intercessions for the twenty core deities, but we had actually intended to provide them for the other twenty deities also showcased in the book, such as Arazni and Gruhastha. Unfortunately, due to a lack of space, these intercessions had to be dropped pretty late in production. Additionally, we never had a great spot to explain the design process for these intercessions to help GMs create their own. Thankfully, all of this great content lives again. We hope everyone enjoys this cool content. If you like what you see in the web supplement and you haven’t yet checked out the book, make sure to snag a copy of Lost Omens Gods & Magic.

I have the same issues with the printed books. That's why I buy the pdf's from Paizo. It's ethical, avoids a long wait to get the material, and Paizo updates them and for free!

As someone who has a hard time 'reading' .pdf, hard copy is the way to go for me.

However, there will be a little while before buy-in, as I have to wait for the PF2 APG to be sanctioned for PFS2.

Keep up the amazing work so there's something there to buy when it's time, please!

Removed some posts. Do not advocate piracy on our forums. Additionally, I think it might work a little better to move the debate about print production and web releases to its own new thread. If you create one, feel free to post a link in here to note that the conversation has moved.

thank you very much for this.

Now I just have to wait until the book arrives^^

With a whole heap of luck, maybe our favorite Learner will also be able to access kobolds ;)

(As long as tengu and kitsune come out in the same book, me and Wei Ji won't have to fistfight each other.)

Not according to Archives of Nethys.

Actually, I don't recall the APG having any races...

The last info they released was a tengu oracle, as long as that hasn't changed...

I think CorvusMask was referring to the upcoming PF2 APG. Tengu will be included, but Kitsune won't be.

Sorry Wei Ji, meet me in the Paizo parking lot for a scrap.

How's your schedule looking for late May? That's the earliest I'll be out that way...

;>

Humour heavily indicated here!

No can do, that's one of my romantic anniversaries and I need to be in good shape. Does early June work for you?

;D

...Also, can someone confirm that Daikitsu does or does not appear in this book? Pretty sure it's the latter, or someone would have told me.

Early June I'll be on the *other* side of the country, unfortunately.

Looks like we'll just have to call it good there.

Someday, your kits will come...

Daikitsu does appear on the giant table of deities, but doesn't get an individual page.

That’s enough to make a Daikitsun cleric! The rest I’ll fill in on my own, like I’ve been doing for years ;D

Yes, all of the mechanics to build a Cleric or Champion are there.

I seem unable to print this. Is there a way to get it to print legibly? ... ideally without using too much ink.

Specifically I just get a page of solid brown when I try to print.
