Beasts of Legend

Here we are at the last preview of the forthcoming Pathfinder Battles: Legendary Adventures set of pre-painted plastic miniatures from our partners at WizKids. Over the last few weeks, we’ve seen all the Huge creatures and the player character- and NPC-appropriate figures in the set, but we’ve still got some of the set’s most menacing foes to show off today!

First, let’s look at the Orc Brawler and Orc Warlord, rounding out Legendary Adventures’s five orc figures. The brawler, the third common orc in the set, will round out many GM’s warbands, and shows off the new orc knuckle dagger weapon that debuted in Pathfinder Second Edition earlier this month. The warlord, for his part, occupies a rare slot in the set, and features a blasting horn to rally the orc hordes against their foes—perhaps against the undead armies of the Whispering Tyrant.

Orc Brawler Orc Warlord

If you didn’t get enough undead in previous Pathfinder Battles sets, like the undead-heavy Ruins of Lastwall set that came out this spring, we’ve got a few more to collect next month! Among the many monsters in the Pathfinder Bestiary that got a makeover between editions were the shadow, wraith, and wight, which all appear in this set as Uncommon medium figures. We really wanted to accentuate the spectral nature of the shadow and wraith, and you’ll notice the miniatures use translucent plastic to give them an eerie sense of not being fully there. The wight, with its bright red eyes and imposing pose, can also serve as a unique skeletal champion among a party of lower-level, mindless undead.

Shadow Wraith Wight

Now that I’ve got that nightmare fuel firmly planted in your subconscious, how about an actual, literal nightmare? This Large rare figure is more than just the black horse with flaming hooves of past editions—it’s a horse corpse with a burning core of infernal flame. Whether that flame burns hotter than the hatred the beast feels for its rider’s enemies is something you’ll have to find out on your own, I just don’t recommend you find out the hard way.

Nightmare

Finally, we have the lonesome Yeti, a Large uncommon figure based on the new art in the Pathfinder Bestiary (which was itself based on the actual appearance of yetis in the real world). Don’t let this guy’s conehead fool you, though—he’s not from France, but he’d sure wreak havoc if let loose there!

It's a Yeti! Mouth open and snarling!'

And with that, we’ve now seen all 44 figures (and variants) in the set. Pathfinder Battles: Legendary Adventures releases next month, and pre-orders and subscriptions are available right now. Secure your booster, brick, or case now and prepare for a life of legendary adventure!

The good news is that it is still a Pathfinder Battles product, so possibly it will qualify for the case subscription singles discount.

That is certainly true.

On the other hand, Patrick, the head of Wizkids RPG products line, seems to be taking a close look at the wishes and suggestions of the members of www.minisgallery.com lately and most of the users want creatures over scenery in the miniature sets and scenery in separate packages.

Are there any news about a minis blog yet?
It's been a week since the reveal and it seems that Wizkids is now letting Paizo handle the news reveals, as it is the first minis press release WITHOUT any render pictures and lacking the names of a few included creatures.

There is also some confusion about the premium set case incentive, as the contents are advertized as "Adult Black & Red Dragons".
While the adult red Dragon is HUGE, the adult black Dragon is only of large size in Pathfinder second Edition, most people and a few press releases assume two huge minis to be in the set.
Which is it?

Thank you for your time, Vic.

Wizkids pushed back some of their minis products from march to april, very likely because of the corona/covid 19 virus quarantine.

There will likely be many more products produced in China hit by this crisis.

As a result, i don't expect any news about the "Age of Lost Omens" minis for a few months.

Dark Archive

Wizkids have just updated their release schedule.

Starfinder Battles: Starter Pack: Monster Pack &
Starfinder Battles: Starter Pack: Heroes Pack habe been announced for a july 2020 release.

@Vic Wertz
Any news about the minis blog?

I know june is still three months away, but it would be nice to see some renders, even without accompanying flavor text.

I do expect pushbacks because of the Corona virus, but it would still be a good idea to show people something at least.

Thank you for your time.

We now have seen images, content and price for the Starfinder Battles minis sets scheduled for 07/2020.

We havn't seen any images and know only 2 out of the 46 minis for the Pathfinder Battles minis set scheduled for 06/2020.

I am pretty sure that the Starfinder Battles minis will sell very well.
I am not sure the Pathfinder Battles set will sell well.

Order deadline for the "City of Lost Omens" miniatures is march 12th.

The last set was also previewed very late and it was stated (i think by Mark Moreland, but i am not sure), that the next set was going to be previewed earlier, in time for the order deadline.

Wizkids have announced the set on february 5th, over 30 days ago.

Street date is june 24th.

If you are not able to provide us with computer rendered images or "flavour" text, please list the minis names at least, so we can make a decision to pre-order or not.

The way Paizo is handling the advertizement of the Pathfinder Battles miniatures at the moment (which is not at all) is frankly questionable.

I know there are other factors behind the scenes, but the result remains the same:
No advertizing equals low sales.

Thank you for your time.

Today is the last day before official order deadline for "Pathfinder Battles: City of Lost Omens".

Wizkids has revealed the set 5 weeks ago.

Street date is in 15 weeks.

The same is true for the "Pathfinder Battles: Thieves Guild Premium Set"

And there are as yet no images of either set on pathfinderminis.com. They have pages for them, but no images.

There can be no images there (it's not an official site) before PAIZO decides to show something here.

It is solely in Paizo's hand now when we will see any computer renders.

On another note:

WizKids announced a new line of gargantuan "Ancient Dragon Premium Figures" at the GAMA Trade Show that will be released as part of its D&D Icons of the Realms series of figures. The figures will include what appears to be new sculpts for both chromatic and metallic dragons, along with a new Sapphire Dragon figure, which will be released in July 2020.

Today is order deadline for "Pathfinder Battles: City of Lost Omens" & "Pathfinder Battles: Thieves Guild".

Just to be clear -- who has to meet that deadline? Clearly we can't do anything about it.

And what happens if somebody for whom it is applicable doesn't meet it?

It's the deadline for retailers to place their orders for the set. Missing the deadline would mean that they would get their orders late (if at all).

In that case, I hope the retailers got more notice than we did, for the sake of anyone who wants to buy these miniature sets in stores.

Dark Archive

These minis are supposed to be in stores in less than 10 weeks (i don't think they will be).

I bet we won't see any pictures in march or april and with covid-19 hitting every nation hard, this set has becomes a non-issue to me.

It's not like i can meet people to play anyway atm.
And i don't need any minis for online-games.

That won't stop me from collecting minis, though. ;-)

It would probably be best to delay this set, a lot of people won't have money for nonessentials anyway.

Sadly 2020 won't be the year the most Pathfinder minis are coming out, it will very probably be the year the least Pathfinder minis come out. ;-(

Online Shops already offer the latest D&D Icons of the Realms set "Eberron: Rising from the Last War", which has a street date of april 1st.

"Arkhan the Cruel & the Dark Order" is also scheduled for that date.

These will very likely the last minis products available for a long time, as "Diamond Distributions" will shut down on april 1st and "Alliance Games Distributions" will close as of today.

The former means that there will be no new comics available after the ones that are published this coming weekend.

The later means that Americas largest game distributor won't ship any new products not backstock.

The repercussions for the hobby sector will be very grave. ;-(

Stay safe and at home everyone.

While the "D&D Icons of the Realms: Eberron - Rising from the Last War" miniatures (which are awesome with the exception of only the "Corpse Flower" mini, which breaks of at the base or bends in almost every single instance) are now available everywhere online and in stores that are still operating/shipping, Wizkids has put the
"Arkhan the Cruel & the Dark Order" minis on indefinete hold.
That set is not available now or on april 1st.

There are no other minis releases scheduled for april 2020.

Personally i don't expect any minis in may (the six D&D premium minis are currently the only ones announced for may).

I 100% expect that the next "Pathfinder Battles: City of Lost Omens" set will get removed from it's june 2020 date (no images for the minis nor box art have been shown and retailer orders have been very low from what i heard).
These will probably get re-scheduled.

June could still see the release of the Wizkids "Warlock Tiles" which allow the building of dungeons, towns & villages.

On the other hand, july 2020s "Starfinder Battles: Galactic Heroes" & "Galactic Villains" six-miniature boxed sets have a very good possibility of a timely release.

Wizkids should update their release schedule either on april 1st or the week after that.

Been chomping at the bit for any info on the City of Lost Omens set.... Will blind buy the set even if they show no pics, but the lack of information is unsettling.

Thinking Marco is right at the possible delay, hoping not becuase Paizo has been reported that they are going to keep to the release schedule as much as possible.

Washington Government just confirmed school shut downs through the remainder of the school year though.

The fact that Wizkids havn't updated their official release schedule page by the second wednesday in the month for the first time since it has been created, shows how serious the current crisis is.

Wizkids already put their "D&D Icons of the Realms: Arkan the Cruel & the Dark Order" set, which was scheduled for april 1st on hold indefinetly.

Five different premium minis of which we already have seen pictures of, are still scheduled for may, although i don't think they will be coming then.

We have also seen actual Warlock Tiles which are scheduled for june.

We havn't seen ANYTHING for the "Pathfinder Battles: City of Lost Omens" minis.
The "City of Lost Omens" book, which was scheduled for late may, already has been put on hold by Paizo, to publish a minis set with the same namewould make no sense.

The set is 100% not coming out in june.

In fact, a release before august is unrealistic.

Or did the books get put on hold, because the mini line wasn't going to be ready to come out? It would explain the delay if it was supposed to be a cross market promotion.

Official word on the release date of the next set would be extremely helpful in today's financially uncertain world.

How useful would an official release date be when the ability to actually meet that date is dependent on forces outside of Wizkids/Paizo's control?

Dark Archive

The current official release date is june 24th 2020.

Considering we havn't seen any product images and the current uncertainty, this is highly likely to be rescheduled to a later date.

Wizkids may update their schedule in early may (normally 6th of may).

Previews of the "City of Lost Omens" set should start coming out in the next week or so. I've been on leave for the last 12 weeks, so any silence from us on the status of these minis is a result of that, not because of any delays or problems on WizKids' end. I confirmed with my contact at WK that this set shipped from China today and is still on track for a late June release.

I’ll reserve judgement until I see the set. But I have high expectations after The Lost Coast. I really like what they did with the Goblinoids and Orcs, and hope to see more.

You mean Legendary Adventures.

That set was the most disappointing set ever for me.
Not only were miniatures that i have been anticipating for years undersized to the point of being one size category smaller (Pteranodon, Aboleth), i also didn't like the redesign for others (Hobgoblins, Shadow, Wraith).
There were some good to great minis, like the Nalfeshnee, the Dwarf Champion, the Fire Giant and the Kobolds, but that's it.
The huge giants were also bad, especially the bended weapons of the Cloud giants.

Fact is:
Legendary Adventures sold outside of the top 5 miniatures products even though it was the Second Edition starter set and had huge minis in it.
City of Lost Omens has no preview art and a lot of people won't have as much money as before the Corona crisis.

This set will not sell well.

Silver Crusade

That last bit is an assumption, not a fact.

Rysky wrote:

That is an assumption by you, not fact.

Fact is: products without product images sell a lot less copies than products with product pictures.
Fact is also that the pre-order deadline (march 13th) is long through.

Orders by that date were very likely lower than for the set before, because of the missing product images and Covid-19 already being a thing by then.

Anybody who acknowledges these facts knows that sales will be impacted for the "City of Lost Omens" set,
whereas the sales for the last set "Legendary Adventures" were not affected by them.

Silver Crusade

Sales will be impacted, yes.

But just making the claim “that it will not sell well” is an assumption, not fact.

Thank you for the information. Battles cases represent a large chunk of my disposable income spending, and I usually sock away a bit of each paycheck in the months leading up to one. I was about a day or so away from giving up hope and spending the money on a new GPU instead (especially since a GPU would be usable immediately while minis won't be until this pandemic is over). I can understand there not being preview images yet, but not even having a store page up or a listing in the product release schedule one month away from release was (and still is) concerning.

Previews would be nice.... looking forward to them eagerly.

I may be an outlier but the Legendary Adventures set was freaking awesome for me. I agree on the size issue with Aboleth but there is one from Reaper I like that will be coming out of the last Bones series that fixes that one issue for me.

Again, would blind buy the next set. Seriously hoping that the lack of previews may indicate some last minute additions.... Like Pug Wizards and Warriors..... I need a Pug army now.... like Yesterday.

Just listened to an interview from MinisGallery.com with a guy from WizKids. He said that the pathfinder upcoming set is on schedule for a June release, YAY! and there is another set in the works for December, gives the name at about an hour and 6 minutes in. Not posting the name here, but excited for news :D

I think Marco is making logical and well supported arguments.

I am hoping that his arguments prove wrong for some reason, but I would have been surprised if any minis sold well in the current climate even without the additional reasons he has given.

on the one hand yes

his assesment based on Covid impacting sales through tanking the economy is likely correct. Previews past the „order buy“ date are not helping.

otoh, it’s generally difficult to please someone who already has (almost) everything.
based on this Marco is the last person to listen to when composing a set.
Better try to sell a set to 90% of potential costomers than try and please the 10%? that have been collecting minis since forever.
