All right...GenCon is a go. Had to make sure it didn't conflict with other family plans, but everything looks good.
Might even get my wife to come with...but I always say that, and it never happens.

Looking forward to the prospect of potentially meeting you. Be safe, smart, and rest according to your needs.

If you have not submitted your volunteer application yet be aware that the Gen Con hotel lottery will occur this weekend. Their system is changed this year so be sure to read the details found HERE on the Gen Con website. Pay extra attention to the deadlines. If you want any chance of getting a hotel room close to the convention center, you need to be really focused on this process. Alternately, you can just volunteer as a tier one/two and get a share of a hotel room for free. Volunteer confirmation emails are being generated and will be distributed shortly so watch for them.
Be aware that we will not be getting our allotment of volunteer badges from Gen Con until later in the season so if you are a volunteer not earning hotel space through tier one/two rewards, you will need to purchase a Gen Con badge in order to gain access to the hotel lottery. When the volunteer badges are provided, you can get your purchased badge refunded.
Remember that this is Gen Con's 50th anniversary. Expect some special happenings so don't miss out.

Not sure if this is the right spot to make a suggestion. If not, I will start a new thread.
I hope to see a table dedicated to the fixing and correcting of player's chronicles. Last year I found a fair number of players who had chronicle sheets not correctly applied to characters.
It was a lack of understanding of the rules of PFS and because of the perceived lack of time to work with the player to explain how things work, the players are sent off with a chronicle sheet that has problems.
I would be willing to give up all my GMing time to man such a table if one was setup.

I support this idea and would happily volunteer at such a table as well.

Actually, there's already a table for questions, distributing pregens, etc set up at the front of the Sagamore. Why not just add "helping newbies with their characters and chronicles" to the list of stuff they do and make a point of advertising it for that? That might require assigning one or two more volunteers up there at all times (especially right before session start times), but I think it would be worth it.

From my single year of experience at GenCon, it was not just newbies who had problems.

Bret and I gave each other's chronicles a quick-audit, trying to prepare for Paizocon. His were perfect, while mine were riddled with errors including finding that a few characters were missing some of my own GM chronicles!
I do fine with the chronicles that everyone else hands me... But writing out my own GM chronicle around store closing time is one extra thing that sometimes seems to get missed. :/
Given that I'm someone who is supposed to know what I'm doing... I think a Chronicle repair table would be a fabulous idea. Gary is likely correct that issues are widespread, and not just amongst the beginners.
Hmm
PS I got my Tier 1 PSA confirmation email! I'm going to GenCon!

This tends to be my biggest chronicle problem as well. Exacerbated by the fact that locally we had about a year where nothing got reported, so I was sometimes guessing as to which character was supposed to get the chronicle.

I usually just write out my GM Chronicle when I'm printing everything I need for a scenario. The only exceptions are when I'm not sure yet who is getting the chronicle or times when I'm not sure if the table is going to make.
Also, received and replied to my confirmation email, so I'm going to Gencon agaib this year!

You're right. As a Hellknight of the Order of the Chronicle Sheet, I see a lot of errors from people who have played much longer than I.
Tier 6 volunteer received and confirmed. What can I say? It's my yearly vacation.

Seeing how busy that table gets, especially at slot start, I would suggest elsewhere.

I did that last year.. But I started at tier 6 and before I know it I was at tier 4!
Going for Tier 1 this year simply because I can't afford it other wise. At least I hope.. I have not seen a confirmation yet. <<sniff sniff>>

It is all timing. I am pretty sure that everyone who stepped up initially will be accepted. Last year they had at least 2 more calls for volunteers. And even with that, at GenCon last year there was a Tier 1 spot open because of a last minute cancellation.
How does that work with hotels, anyway? Tier 1s are supposed to get rooms covered, but I'd guess a last-minute Tier 1 wouldn't get that.
And I'm on Central Time, so I don't know how that would affect the call-outs considering some people already have theirs.

August was so long ago...
lol If memory serves (note disclaimer) I believe I read that the room spot was open. But memory is really foggy on the details.
My point about the time (we are in the same time zone) is that I expect the notification will be going until later in the evening for me because I am in central time zone and west coast is two hours behind.

If it's the same as it was last year, they had to lock in the names of the people getting rooms with the hotel and were unable to change them at a late date. Though I'm sure there are some exceptions that can be made along the if needed (though I'm not con staff and am not speaking for them)

I hate getting all excited when I see that there's a new email in my box, and finding that it is junk mail from AOL. Look, I know I'm like one of three people still using AOL, but I just wish they'd lay off the junk mail this weeks so I can be excited when my confirmation email arrives and not disappointed when it's more AOL junk mail.
Still pacing the virtual floor, now cursing AOL.

Lucky you. I'm still pacing both the actual floor and the gmail floor. It's quite exhausting.

Well, my physical body is pacing the house floor.
My avatar is mentally pacing the gmail void. Since both are working through, there is no peace to be had.I can only do this because I am the void's disciple, however.
