PaizoCon 2016 is Coming—Badges and Special Guests Announced!

Wednesday, February 3, 2016

Are you ready for PaizoCon? We are! Join us this year at PaizoCon 2016, where there will be 4 days of gaming, panels, workshops, costumes, and opportunities to be among the first to hear about future Paizo and Pathfinder projects. You'll be able to meet up with Paizo staff, community members and fans, as well as many authors, artists and designers from the gaming industry. This year we're also very proud to announce that our guests of honor will be Nicolas Logue and Tyler Walpole! You can learn more about them here.

What's this about badges? Well, for starters, you can (and should) go get one now! We're offering 4-Day Badges and 4-Day Kid's Badges, as well as Preview Banquet Tickets for PaizoCon 2016. PaizoCon 2015 con-goers may notice the absence of last year's Deluxe Badge option—instead of adding another level of complexity to the whole convention experience this year, we're offering $10 off the purchase of a badge and banquet ticket.

We also have good news for folks who want to just experience a single day of PaizoCon! Single Day Badges will be available in person at the PaizoCon convention store and are priced at $25 for adults and $15 for kids.

Because of the introduction of Single Day Badges, we've lifted the badge restriction off of Preview Banquet Tickets. However, you will need either a 4-Day Badge or Single Day Badge to enter the banquet event. Banquet tickets are available in limited quantities due to space needs and can sell out. So, if you want to experience the banquet and get at first look at what's new for Pathfinder and Paizo, don't hesitate!

If you have any questions about the PaizoCon 2016 (including badges/tickets or hotel information), please check our FAQ or visit the PaizoCon forum.

We're so excited for PaizoCon 2016 to get here and will be updating you with more information as the show gets closer. Folks who are waiting for the call for volunteers will see that crop up sometime this month. And if you've been waiting to submit an event, you can do that on the Event Submission page until February 29th.

Awesome! Just happened to check and tickets were suddenly available - and on my birthday, no less! Hotel, flights, badges and banquet tickets for me and my son are a go! Now to waitwaitwait for the schedule.

All done (hopefully).

FWIW, I didn't really see the $10 discount being applied, but I did get pathfinder advantage (was I supposed to get that?) so maybe it was swallowed up by the 15%.

If I look at last year's program will that give me a rough idea of when seminars are and so forth? Like is the rough outline the same each year even though the specifics change? (Is it even possible to find last year's program still?)

I can't wait to see everyone again this year, and meet new friends attending Paizocon for the first time this year. Hmm...time to decide what games I'm going to run for you guys.

Keep an eye peeled for the lottery (especially if you aren't huge on PFS), and if you're going to the banquet, be prepared for a big line. Most important of all, though, watch for Majuba's annual Goblin Brains thread (assuming you like and can eat peanut stuff). Those things are always a treat!

Oh also pack deodorant and plug your nose when stray goblin dogs run by in the halls.

Lottery?

Dark Archive

All the various panels and games (except most PFS) only have so much room, so once the schedule is announced, to be fair to everyone, they run a lottery for spots. Ticket holders will have a certain amount of time to rate how interested they are in an event before the lottery, so your name will only be pulled if you showed interest. You can rate things from 1-5, 5 being most interested. If you could care less about something, then you just don't rate it, leaving it an effective 0. After the lottery is over, the entire schedule opens up to sign ups, so any empty spaces (and non-lottery games) are filled in at that time.
There'll be instructions for all this one the schedule comes out. :)

Scarab Sages

Awesome and looking forward to May. Now to await the volunteer announcement.

I don't recall the program being available online. I could mail you one if you want Steve (we got two after all) - PM if so.

To set up the tickets in a more simple and practical manner, we had to allow the AP discount to apply to badges. The total of [Badge + Banquet + AP discount] is just a tiny, itsy bit less than the price of the [badge + banquet + $10 discount] so we decided to go ahead with this simpler method of setting up badges.

The real benefit here is that banquet tickets do not require a prior or simultaneous purchase of a badge. This means our PFS volunteers and etc who may not know if they are getting a free badge for a few weeks yet, can go ahead and buy the banquet ticket without as much of the shenanigans we've had to deal with in past years with refunds and whatnot when the complimentary badges are granted. (You'll still need a PaizoCon Badge (4-day or Saturday Badge at the door) and your Banquet ticket to go to the Preview Banquet).

I am finding myself tempted to write a sequel to the "Find Jatembe!" game I ran a couple of years ago. I really shouldn't.

By the way - the Event Submission page calls this the eighth PaizoCon, which is not entirely accurate.

My son loved that game and would love a sequel, I'm sure of it! You really should. Heck, he might be up for contributing to it instead, if that would interest you. (Disclaimer: Committing on behalf of a 14-year-old could be grounds for his revoking the parent/child contract, so this contributor notion is, um, notional, at best.)

Woohoo, I got my hotel booked, got my tickets don't need plane tickets I'm only 4 hrs away. So have my GPS programed already.

Question I thought somewhere you could customize your badges with a avatar/pic and name? I see & did the name but didn't see option for pic did I miss read somewhere?

Yep! Part of the inspiration. I'm also looking forward to seeing what's made PFS legal from Arcane Anthnology, because I want to make a character (my Ganzi race boon character) based on some of that stuff.

How much should a person save up in terms of expenses for the convention floor. Since I don't believe any product stations will be able to take Visa cards, right?

Product stations? The merchants all took plastic.

As far as how much to budget--in my experience, way more than you expected. :-)

Your convention badge will have a barcode and be directly attached to your Paizo account. Any payment method you have there will be available at the store checkout.

There isn't a place to add an avatar image. We frequently use "avatar" to refer to your forum alias, so that may what's generating the confusion. :)

That's not the case—while we *do* attach your store purchases to your paizo.com account, we don't have the ability to charge the cards you have on file. If we did that, anyone who could managed to convince us they're you would be able to buy stuff using your card, and that's not something we'll let happen!

Accepted forms of payment in the PaizoCon store are Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and US currency.

I must be misremembering how things worked then. It's been awhile since last PaizoCon.

Chelaxian gold sails will not be accepted for purchase of the Hell's Rebels adventure path.

Andoran gold sails will not be accepted for purchase of the Hell's Vengenance adventure path.

All forms of gold are accepted for purchase of the Skull & Shackles adventure path.

The Paizo team is currently looking into adding a "sanity" payment method for the Strange Aeons adventure path.

I seem to be rather out of sanity. Will blood sacrifice be an option?

Just a little reminder of a conversation we've had over the last couple of years (though you guys may already have made orders for the swag bag):

In last year's feedback thread, a few of us talked about the swag bag:

And we got an encouraging answer:

I want to be clear, the contents of this year's bag were awesome. But if it's possible, I'd love a bag like the cool canvas one of two years ago, over the purple thang.

If it's possible for the swag bag to be a collectible in itself (as it was a few years back), rather than something bound for the landfill (as it was the last two years), that would make the bag as awesome as the rest of PaizoCon.

Durability is a key issue as well if we're making it collectible. I loaded the swag bag from GenCon this past year with some Pathfinder books to a local convention and the thing burst on the second day. Thankfully it *held* (sort of, with super-glue and duct tape) long enough to get home but it was still dramatically inconvenient.

I am still using the awesome Pathfinder tote bag from three years ago on a weekly basis to haul minis, maps, templates and other sundries to PFS games. That one is plenty durable.

Second the motion!

I still use my PaizoCon 2013 bag (with the Pathfinder logo on it) to carry things to gamedays. It's starting to show some wear (bit of a hole in the side), and I hardly carry any hardbacks in it; it's all the paper plus all the maps doing it nowadays.

Love that bag. Threw out the bags from 2014 and 2015.

Another vote for that style of bag. Mine's starting to get a little old, too. I use it constantly both for game night materials and grocery shopping.

While we really appreciate everyone's suggestions on how we can make PaizoCon the best possible show it can be, I thought I might temper expectations for the swag bag (or more accurately the bag which holds the swag).

In 2013, when we gave out the fabric swag bag, it wasn't made specifically for PaizoCon but instead was made for a marketing initiative and we decided to use the remainder for the swag bag for the show. We felt it was the best way to get those remaining bags into the hands of our most hardcore fans and we thought it would make the swag bag for the show a neat treat.

And obviously, while it did do that, it has had the unanticipated side effect of tainting the rest of the years swag bags (and this thread is a perfect example of that). Every year folks clamor for a return to 2013's bag and I'm sorry to say that that's going to be really hard to do.

Those bags were more expensive than folks realize and our show just doesn't have the attendance levels to reach reasonable printing and manufacturing thresholds to bring a bag like that within our budget. That is the reality and that is why all of the other years the show has run, we've used the plastic Paizo shopping bags to hold the swag.

Please understand I'm not trying to be a Debbie-Downer here, I'm just trying to provide you guys with some additional context for the thread. I'm also not saying that we will never have a fabric swag bag again, I'm just saying that it is a challenge.
