Last October the Venture-Officers became aware of some family health issues that caused a change in my employment status at Paizo and I was allowed to telecommute. This change led my family and I to make the move from Seattle to the New Orleans area. This has worked fairly well for almost a year as I traveled to Paizo from New Orleans regularly but, as with most situations, things continue to evolve and my work status is changing yet again.

It is with a sad heart I announce today that my tenure with Paizo will end on August 7. This should allow me to say personal goodbyes at both PaizoCon UK and Gen Con. The day after I leave my position, I will be closing my public Campaign Coordinator Facebook page as well.

It has been a pleasure working with, and for, all of you. I was always taught to leave a situation better than I entered it. I hope I have done that. Some changes I take pride in being heavily involved with are:

  • Updating the Guide with a more professional appearance and outline
  • Implementing GM 101, GM 201 and Kid's Track (with the help of some awesome VOs)
  • Expanding our volunteer base from 13 VOs to more than 470
  • Growing the playerbase from around 12,000 to more than 60,000
  • Expanding Pathfinder Society's presence from 5 countries with an active PFS presence to 29 (including regions that had little or no prior Organized Play)
  • I have also taken a great deal of pride in watching PFS expand from one small room of 30 tables at Gen Con, to taking over the entire Sagamore Ballroom (with 180 tables of PFS gaming this year!), as well as numerous other activities planned for the space
  • Additionally, I've been working with our Tech Team over the past few months on an array of improvements to the Pathfinder Society section of paizo.com, and think you will approve of the changes that are coming

There are many other changes that I have initiated and been a part of, and I think have improved the overall quality of Pathfinder Society, but are too numerous to list here.

I wish you all well. Again, thanks for the opportunity of letting me be the Global Organized Play Coordinator for almost 4 full years.

Mike Brock

Mike, I shall hold my personal farewells for GenCon, but I join the community in expressing my appreciation for your hard work, long hours, and time away from family to expand the framework upon which PFS is designed. We don't always agree on the "right" solution to challenges, but you are an open listener and accept feedback, both supportive and constructive with the utmost professionalism. Both the Pathfinder Society game system and the gaming community are better off having had you at the helm. Someone will surely come along who can pick up PFS where you leave us and guide us to even greater success, but they will never fill your shoes. It has been both an honor and a privilege to work with you. My happiest wishes go with you and your family.

Thanks for everything you've done for PFS, Mike. The campaign has most definitely been better for your leadership. And welcome to New Orleans! Paizo's and Seattle's loss is our gain.

Mike, your record speaks for itself. You took Pathfinder Society Organised Play and massively and effectively expanded it in a way even the most optimistic industry watchers couldn't have predicted. You developed an enormous, international network of organisers, volunteers and contacts and worked hard to maintain and grow that world-spanning network. But it wasn't just numbers - you also held tenure over some of the best storylines of the organised play campaign with the greatest plot twists and turns that kept players desperate to find out what happens next.

It was an honour to volunteer as a VO under your leadership. I wish you the best. I know that your new workplace will appreciate having such an organised and passionate leader in their organisation.

Happy gaming.

Mike,

Thanks for your hard work. You got the position around the same time I discovered Pathfinder Society, so I have no idea what it was PFS was like without you but the numbers speak for themselves. I don't think your job could have been easy at.

I wish you and your family well in all of your future endeavors.

Before I met Mike I knew his reputation as a passionate and diplomatic leader and a fine community organizer. At Winter War 2015 in Champaign IL USA I put a face to the name and learned he also is a friendly guy and a great GM. Playing the resurrected Hands of the Muted God at his table was the highlight of my con even though his evil monster killed my Nackle.

I dabbled in PFS in the early years, but the time under Mike's leadership is when the campaign became compelling for me. These last four years have been a period of growth and innovation under stable campaign leadership, and chief among those leaders has been Mike Brock. He will leave PFS better than it was and ready to go forward under his successors.

Mike, thank you for everything you've put into this campaign and community. You will be missed. I hope you enjoy your farewell tour the next few weeks.

Thank you for everything you have done to better PFS. I joined Pathfinder Society somewhere around the start of season 4, and it quickly became my favorite gaming option in no small part to the work you have out in to the betterment of our gaming community. I never got to know you well, as so many others did, but I am sad to see you step down. Should you ever return to a convention in the LA area I will happily buy you a drink in thanks for all your hard work.

Mike --

As a relative newcomer to the PFS community, I've been impressed from the get go with the heart and thought that you put into the decisions that affect our little community.

Thank you so much for all that you have done for us, and best wishes to you for the future!

Very sorry to see you go. I thought you to be an outstanding addition to PFS and have truly been impressed with the quality of the decisions that have come out of PFS since you've been on board. I have met you personally on several occasions and found you to be approachable and generous. I should think you will have success where ever you go.

Silver Crusade

Good luck in all your future endeavors! You certainly will be missed.

Mike, you have done an incredible job, and set an example of how this organization should be run for all future campaign management to follow.

We met in Chattanooga at a horrible little con back when you were building the northern Georgia PFS base. You ran Midnight Mauler for a table including myself and a friend of mine, and you did a great job. I was pleased to hear you got the big boss position, and loved most everything you have brought to the organized play experience. I was proud to shake your hand in that un-air conditioned sweat lodge of a con back in 2010(-ish), and I'll be equally proud to shake your hand again as you ride off into the sunset. Best of luck, and I hope to see you again at future, more pleasant game conventions!

It is going to be really strange to no longer have Mike Brock as Campaign Coordinator. I hope that his successor is able to deal with the level of quality PFS has come to expect.
