Boar and Rabbit

Two men knelt at the foot of the dais. One wore thick-plated lamellar armor, the other snug gray wrappings that hid all but his eyes. Similarly dressed pairs made a half-circle around the kneelers, each individual set connected by a short iron chain.

Pathfinder Campaign Setting: Inner Sea Combat (PFRPG)

Who Doesn't Like A Little Conflict?

The release of Pathfinder Campaign Setting: Inner Sea Combat is approaching, and it's a book I'm particularly proud of. Since I've taken over the Pathfinder Campaign Setting line, we've released a number of books, but this one is perhaps the most jam-packed with amazing new rules and thematic elements of the lot. Just about every page has something on it that makes me want to run a new campaign or build a new character. If only I had the time to do so! But as a developer, I often game vicariously through the players and GMs who use the content I have a hand in delivering, and I can't wait to hear what fun you fine folks have with this one!

Teaching Changemakers Using Kingmaker

My name is Ben Parkinson and I have been interested in roleplaying for most of my life. For the last five years I have been running a project in Uganda, which trains indigenous youth in Uganda to become social entrepreneurs, sometimes known as change makers. Our project is known as the Butterfly Project because it relies on the concept that nurturing youth can transform them into Butterflies, capable of changing the community in which they live and we are very proud of the young people we have been working with, most of which come from slum areas in Kampala and some from remote village areas.

The Redemption Engine Sample Chapter

In The Redemption Engine, extraplanar investigator Salim Ghadafar is back at it again, only this time he's tasked with tracking down murdered sinners who fail to show up in Hell. In order to do so, the former priest-hunter will need to descend into the anarchic city of Kaer Maga, following a trail that ranges from Hell’s iron cities to the gates of Heaven itself. Along the way, he’ll be aided by a host of otherworldly creatures, a streetwise teenager, and two warriors of the mysterious Iridian Fold. But when the missing souls are the scum of the earth, and the victims devils themselves, can anyone really be trusted?

Jasilia tried to go back down the ladder, but it was too late. The giant skeleton on the wall top—crowned with a royal blue khepresh, holding a jewel-encrusted scepter of pure gold, and dressed like the pharaoh himself—reached out a massive bony hand and grabbed her by the wrist.

Pathfinder Battles Preview: Au Revoir!

Next week I'm off to the great nation of France to celebrate the 10th anniversary of our partners at Black Book Editions, who publish Pathfinder in French. I'll be taking a little vacation at the end of the trip, so the Pathfinder Battles Preview will go on a two-week hiatus following today's preview. I usually try to post these updates from the road, but this time I'm going to let vacation be vacation. I hope to come back to finish out the last few Reign of Winter figures, and that should coincide with some previews (and heck, an announcement!) for the next set.

Let No Savior Go Unpunished

Heading into the fifth adventure in the Rise of the Runelords Adventure Path, we've already saved Sandpoint (again), discovered and solved some disturbing problems with a variety of giants (hill, stone, -kin, undead, etc), cornered and defeated a pair of lamia cleric twins what seemed like a dozen times, and met the stone giant necromancer Mokmurian (and hopefully taken his club)! Looking around the ancient library lair, you find important-looking references to a lost storehouse of Thassilonian magic known as the Runeforge.

Dune Runner

With a cry, Nekhtep kicked his heels into the camel's sides and swung the beast toward the ghastly soldier on their left, charging down the dune's face. The move seemed to take the skeletal thing by surprise. Moldering flesh hanging in loose patches from its skull, the creature raised a longsword only to see the weapon driven out of its hands by a powerful blow from Nekhtep's khopesh. The Risen Guard's next swing lopped off the unliving soldier's head, which rolled down the dune's side, leaving behind shreds of rotting skin on the baking sand.

The release of the Pathfinder Campaign Setting hardcover, Inner Sea Gods, is fast approaching, and that means it's time for some previews. The art team already did a preview of some of the amazing illustrations to grace this 336-page tome, so I'll talk a bit more about the words that accompany the book's incredible art.

Pathfinder Legends: A Visual Companion

Right after the debut Pathfinder Legends full-cast audio drama was released, my wife and I got stuck in an unexpected traffic snarl (which shouldn't have been too surprising, living in Seattle, and all). To kill the time, I put on the CD, and my wife—Shelyn bless her—obliged me by listening. It didn't take very long before she was getting into the story and following closely. There were a few instances when she made me pause playback, however, so that I could explain what certain locations, creatures, and characters looked like. It hit me then that not everyone listening to Pathfinder Legends may play Pathfinder or be familiar with some of the fantasy tropes that those of us who've been playing D&D or variants thereof for decades can sometimes take for granted. One of the reasons the audio drama is so captivating is that it doesn't include a lot of exposition dumps or narration, meaning some of the physical descriptions one might expect in a novel or RPG experience just aren't there.
