A one-page game jam designed for the Infinite community!
Guest Blog by Meredith Gerber | Partner Relations Representative at DriveThruRPG

Pathfinder Infinite, Starfinder Infinite, and Paizo are thrilled to welcome you to the PaizoCon 2024 Game Jam!

Pathfinder infinite logo Starfinder Infinite Logo

What is a game jam?
A game jam is an event designed to create something from scratch during a timed period. In this case, all entries will be due no later than May 1st, 2024.

What is the game jam theme?

The theme marries with the PaizoCon 2024 theme: Educate, Entertain, and Inspire!

Who can participate?
Anyone! All you need is a customer account for DriveThru sites.

Why should I participate?
Aside from it’s a blast to jam together with the community, you’ll get promotions from Paizo, DriveThruRPG, and Pathfinder/Starfinder Infinite; you will be providing a very cool option for GMs to bring to their table; and you’ll be challenging yourself as a creator or bringing an idea from your table to life.

What are the rules?

  • Must fit one page, double sided. (Technically, it will be two pages of a single-page PDF or a two-page spread. When someone prints it out, they’ll have one sheet with information front and back)
  • Must be uploaded to Pathfinder Infinite or Starfinder Infinite before May 1st, 2024.
  • Must follow the Pathfinder and Starfinder Infinite Guidelines
  • When you’re finished setting up your title, please keep it private. We will turn all of them to be available for purchase slightly before PaizoCon.
  • Email meredith@roll20.net with a link to your private URL, your customer email, and a two-sentence synopsis.

Do you have a font size restriction?

No. You’re welcome to make the font any size you’d like, but we recommend at least 9.5 for readability.

Do I have to put artwork in?

Not a requirement! We recommend keeping it simple so people can easily print it out. You’re welcome to also make a printer-friendly version to upload alongside your submission (so, two files!) if your submission needs color, art, and flourish!

I submitted my title. Now what?

Pathfinder Infinite/Starfinder Infinite will notify you when it is live and when Paizo posts a “round up” promoting it the week of PaizoCon.

Can I make changes? Won’t that cause problems for the URL I send?

You are welcome to make changes to your submission—the PDF(s), the description, title—at any time.

Can I charge for this?

Absolutely! Infinite Masters are recommending at least 99 cents. You are not required to charge but we always recommend it because you should charge for the work you did!

We cannot wait to see what you create!

Is this a one page (front and back) adventure or any potential one page submission for Paizo Infinite?

Sorry, English isn't my first language, what do you mean when you say the theme "marries" the PaizoCon theme? That it's the same?

Scarab Sages

Cool! Now to try to generate some 1 and 2 pager ideas...

How many entries can we submit?

Is this a contest, or a buildup to an explosion of content?

Just a way for the community to celebrate for PaizoCon! Explosion of quick small content for people to enjoy during the Con and beyond!

As many as you'd like! No limit as long as it meets the PFI Guidelines + in before the due date! :D

Your product must be able to be described as fitting that theme.

So, for this specific theme, Educate, Entertain, and Inspire!, a good example might actually be the free adventure the NASA recently posted online (even thought it's too long for this. xD ) In my humble opinion, it pretty much encompass all three parts of the themes. It's educational, entertaining, and inspiring. xD
But you migth also want to be more... direct, and do an adventure where the PCs specifically need to educate, entertain, and inspire! Also called: an adventure for 4 bards. :P

LINK to free NASA adventure.

If only more government agencies would publish RPG supplements. I'm still waiting for the stakeout from the FBI, regime change/heist from the CIA, we-be-leshy-druids from the EPA and whatever that weird one is from the Department of Homeland Security.

Well this is cool :O I honestly don't really know what to do with this theme though yet at least. But these kinds of things are good at making you actually finish stuff on time

For #1, #2, and #4, if you found out, they'd have to kill you.

This is super-exciting. Could I create 2 separate entries, one that is the continuation of the other? Like a new Ancestry and then the expansion for that Ancestry?

To me, this feels like a way to circumvent one of the rules that everyone else will follow...

I think it would probably be ok to release expansions outside of the jam, but to follow the spirit of the event, I feel like it would be best to make sure your entry (or entries) are all able to stand alone.
It's also safer for you, cause they could decide that it breaks the first rule, and not promote your work.
If they wanted people to do bigger things like that, the first rule wouldn't exist at all. Usually, if you have to jump through hoops and technicalities to explain why your entry "follow the rules", they probably don't follow their intended spirit. Considering that "promotion of your entry" is the only "price", I feel like it would be best to not cheese it. :P

BTW, just to make it clear because tone is hard to convey by text, I don't think you're a bad person or anything. I fully believe you just didn't think it could be seen in a bad light by others. :3 (And that's why my post is so long, trying to convey it in a diplomatic way... I'm awkward with words sometimes. xD )

I understand you're just speaking off the top of your head and you have no malice.

To be clear, I tend to be verbose and I want to continue my thought process until it's completely done. That might mean going over the one page and I was wondering if there was an option for me to possibly complete my thoughts with a second entry. Especially when it comes to ancestries. There's just so much that I want to include.

Pathfinder Starfinder Adventure Path, Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

One of the requirements for publishing on Infinite using OGL content (Pathfinder 1E, Starfinder 1E and pre-remaster Pathfinder 2E) is to reproduce the OGL text and have other specific language on the title page as detailed here: https://help.pathfinderinfinite.com/hc/en-us/articles/12777431899927-Owners hip-and-License-Questions#h_01HF7865H0VY6VAVKDZKXQE2FK

Taking that into account, final submissions should have four pages: title page + two pages of content + OGL page. Is that correct?

Hmm I think I'm realizing I dunno really how to think of theme. Like... Most of fiction and entertainment and games is supposed to be entertaining. Being educational is kinda hard thing in general because you can of course do something for obscure topic you are interested in to spread awareness, but like not a teacher so not just something I internalize how to do. Inspire is another one of those weird things where I don't know how do you inspire things on purpose, I just like to do stuff about stuff I've been inspired by.

Realization its "one page, can be double sided" so two pages in pdf means there is quite bit of space than I thought. Still not sure what I could do in two pages though. Adventure seems bit short even if its just outline. And I don't do much of items or player options. So I guess that means making monsters then?

Or to flip it into the meta of the Campaign world:

* Entertaining monster/troupe/actors/jugglers/acrobats. Think theatre; stories; taverns (I mean what's more entertaining than tavern brawls, though prob'ly not best to emulate certain old skool tavern brawls with completely questionable dramatis personae written by authors with slightly nominatively apt names); puppet monsters/haunts; in game drinking games (or real world..if you think that's totally appropriate), in-world dice games. A song or shanty haunt that starts fun and dives deep into horror.

Just stay completely away from clowns and you are good to go.

* An education demon. Lore construct. Mentor/teacher/sufi/master gone rogue. A teaching treasure akin to the old Librams and Manuals of ADnD.

By all means educate if you wish.

* A dark-inspiration demon. Inspiration-sapping demon. Bard villain. A tale of inspiring heroics that when heard provides a buff. Physical item inspiration treasure (investigator conversant or not) or haunt.

But definitely write from that which inspires you - nothing writes or reads better than that created from a place of true love and inspiration. Write what interests you.

Again, write from what you a) know and b) are inspired by.

At Enworld a PaizoCon notice says, "Our theme for this year’s PaizoCon Online is Educate, Entertain, Inspire!—and we’ll be theming our content to match. Learn the basics of Pathfinder and Starfinder, enjoy broadcasted actual plays, and find out what the future holds here at Paizo!"

Educate the players about some aspect of Golarion or illustrate the Pathfinder/Starfinder rules or base it on real-world history to teach history. Entertainment is regular roleplaying fun. Inspire them to play more Pathfinder and Starfinder.

I favor very short adventures.

My players keep inventing little tasks to flavor their roleplaying, such as Wwat to do with a Mithral Waffle Iron? They would fit onto two pages if I could figure out what would inspire another party to do the same thing. For example, "They were negotiating with foreign dignitaries, so let's talk over a waffle breakfast!" Imagine a diplomat asking a party to cook an embassy dinner, educating the characters (and their players) about ingredients, cooking, and presentation.

Before the mithral waffle iron I was theorycrafting on the time oracle in the Paizo forums when I unexpectedly needed a very fast messenger. So I converted a friendly NPC into a time oracle with Speed 45 feet and made her the messenger. I rolled her encounters on the errand to test the theory and for her to tell the party: Amelia Rivercast. But that mission could be a simple two-page adventure for an adventuring party.

I'm sorry to post here, since there's no way to PM -- but you removed a whole bunch of on-topic posts, including mine (regarding the FAQ item about charging). It's pretty off-putting.

I'd like to double down on hephaistos' question - Is the two pages including OGL/ORC langauge and title card, or is it in addition to them?

Small note: Because it's on Infinite, you actually can't use the ORC license. You can reference ORC rules without any problem, because Paizo give you the license to on Infinite, but you can't publish your stuff under the ORC license on Infinite, cause you're publishing it under the Infinite license, which is more restrictive (that's part of the "price" to "pay" for releasing something that can let you make money while using the Paizo IP without the hassles of getting the "traditional" full license).

The only reason you NEED to reference OGL when making stuff that reference OGL elements on Infinite is because so many things that Paizo published under the OGL are not original stuff, and might be hard for us to know all of them, it was simpler to have us all publish them under the OGL license too.
Because all outside references have been removed with the transition to ORC, this double licensing isn't needed anymore.

Okay the note about ORC is fair.

But for Starfinder, your note about OGL is very important - and basically required for damn near everything. So I return back to Hephaistos' question - should it be included as an additional page, or does it have to be incorporated in the 2-sheet limit?

Apologies for the delay on this!

It is two pages of *content created by you* so the licensing & legal lines or cover would not count against the two pages!

Can you post a link for things like Stat blocks, or other articles? Is that going against the 2 page spirit?
TIA

Hmm depression and other writing projects took time from me figuring out whether it would be better to do two statblocks or one page adventure plus statblock :'D I wonder if its too late now, at least won't be time to have anyone else proof read

Do the latter; I'm trying to get something done, and originally had two custom stat blocks, and had to cut it down to one. To be fair, I have some lengthy abilities, but two pages I have found to be fairly restrictive - and a fun challenge.

FYI, i'm seeing a lot of questions 1) is the link the weblink or is there something else since the entries and not public yet, and 2) what time (UTC maybe?) on May 1st, since people are submitting globally in different timezones. 3) should people being seeing confirmation emails,
Thanks!

Decided in the end focus on other stuff plus I didn't get any ideas I really wanted to work on, bit of missed opportunity but it happens

I tried writing up a short side mission from one of my actual games. The effort revealed how many shortcuts I take in my gamemaster plans, relying on improvising details on the spot rather than generating them in advance. I work slowly in my old age, and I ran out of time to fill in the details. So I missed the deadline.

I feel a relief that I did not have to deal with converting my writing and diagrams into a PDF file. Meticulously following instructions to prevent interoperability conflicts looked stressful.
