Starfinder Society: Year 7 Announcement

Thursday, February 1, 2024

Hello Starfinders!

As many of you know, Starfinder Second Edition is glowing brightly on the distant horizon, which means that the era of Starfinder First Edition is coming to an end. Never fear! The Starfinder Society won’t let Starfinder First Edition fade into the sunset without a celebration!

With that in mind, it’s my honor to announce the final season of the Starfinder Society for Starfinder First Edition…

Welcome to the Year of Era's End!

The Year of Era’s End is a time to celebrate the end of Starfinder First Edition! It’s a time to revisit old friends, capstone some of our most beloved ongoing storylines, and shine a spotlight on big, exciting events in the Starfinder setting—events that will change the course of the Pact Worlds now and have lasting effects into the future of Starfinder Second Edition!

So, whether you’re a veteran of the Starfinder Society, a newcomer who’s excited to get in on the game, or a fan looking to experience events that directly influence the upcoming Starfinder Second Edition, join us for the Year of Era’s End!

We're going out with a bang!

While much of the Year of Era’s End is focused on closure and big, exciting capstone events—events best suited for mid- to high-level play—our metaplot is focused on low-level play, to accommodate everyone who wants to get in on the game! But low level, however, doesn’t mean low impact!

Under the watchful eye of newly elected First Seeker Sarmak, the Starfinder Society travels to the machine planet of Aballon to undertake an archaeological survey of the ancient city of Eternity—a fabled city of the First Ones! During this three-adventure metaplot, the Starfinders explore mysterious ruins, discover long-forgotten secrets about the First Ones, and clash with a violent faction of anacite extremists named Those Who Call.

The Year of Era’s End begins with Starfinder Society Intro: Year of Era’s End, an adventure for 1st- through 4th-level characters written by Letterio Mammoliti! This adventure debuts at PaizoCon 2024 alongside one other Starfinder Society Scenario written by our very own Jenny Jarzabski, though we’re keeping that one under wraps for now!

With the launch of Year of Era’s End, the following ancestries will become “always available” for Organized Play: barathu, borai, ghibrani, morlamaw, orc, and prismeni. In addition, be on the lookout for a few new Starfinder Society boons related to the end of the Year of Fortune’s Fall and the launch of the Year of Era’s End, which you’ll be able to purchase online using your Achievement Points!

To learn more about the Year of Era’s End, tune into twitch.tv/officialpaizo on February 2nd from 4–6 p.m. Pacific and watch PaizoLive! Missed the live stream? No worries! You can watch it on demand anytime.

I hope you join me in celebrating the final season of the Starfinder Society for Starfinder First Edition with the Year of Era’s End! Big changes are on the horizon… and you can be a part of it!

It’s going to be a year to remember.

Hard to believe how much time has passed. Anyway, LETS'S DO IT!

Even though it's sad to see the end of Society play for Starfinder, I'm really excited to see how you close it out and lead us into Starfinder 2e!

If Ghibrani are being made Always Available, Wayfinders need a new Capstone Boon.

Also, will the current Alien Allies capstone boon function like other admittance boons for species which have since become always available (+2 to an ability score for an existing character of that species)?

Year 7 Hype!!!

I'm very excited to hear that it's a season of wrapping up loose ends and resolving dangling threads from past years - while also laying groundwork for SFS2e!!! I made a thread the other day about some of these loose threads; feel free to head on over, but watch out, the whole thread contains massive spoilers for, well, all of the first six seasons XD link Hmm, and is that a little symbol of Triune I spy on the crystal rock-gem-node thingy, to Sarmak's side, in the Season 7 banner image?

I quite liked the "mini-arcs split by tier" format that we first saw in Season 3, so it's nice to see that making a return, as well. Plus, this seems like a fair compromise between resolving loose threads (which 'deserve' to feel high tier - like, ain't no way the Vault Lord is a CR 3 enemy :D) while also letting new First Seeker Sarmak and his mission statement get some limelight. (I imagine it would not have felt very good for Sarmak, and Sarmak's player, if their inaugural season was 'lol we're sidelining you to deal with past crap.') I'm hoping that we see a higher ratio of high-tier to mid- or low-tier scenarios this season; it's always nice to blow the dust off of our lvl 14 -701s, and whatnot. It's fun to think about a Tier 13-16 scenario, to let some more PCs apply Devastation Ark chronicles; but realistically, how many lvl 15-16 SF1 PCs can there really be. That said, a few more 11-14s would be pretty cool!

Finally, inb4 "We're going out with a bang!" is a literal end of s7 planetary bang :D

Always kept doing Second Seekers (Luwazi Elsebo) because I didn't want to keep putting prestige into multiple different seekers =P

I think that problem is solved for you when 2e starts xD Even if they don't swap factions for new ones like they did with pf2e, they would be back to just single second seekers factions for rest of term

As happy as I am about this season, I am slightly disappointed that I had just bought the Morlamaw achievement boon. Oh well.

I am still hyped about the direction that this season is going in, if only because I plan on having a lot of fun with my archaeologist biohacker.

you get to add +2 to a stat under 14 as a consolation prize then.

Excellent point. I need to dust off my archaeologist mechanic for the low-level Sarmak missions this season.

And I'm eager to see what the high-level fare for the season will be, because my 13th-level ace pilot really wants one last chance to strut her stuff before the edition change forces her to reluctantly turn her full attention to her Forum position rather than gallivanting all across the galaxy.

Everyone still holding out hope for at least one 9-12 or 11-14 (Vault Lord encounter, maybe)?

I'm a little antsy if Year 7 will be similar to Year 4 in terms of only one high tier scenario. Half the season is announced so far and nothing higher than Aucturn Asunder (level 7-10) yet.

My 701 is about to level up to 12. I'm also wrapping up Dead Suns this year, but not sure if I want to apply the AP credit to the 701, because bumping them up to 13 might mean they become unplayable in year 7. That will be the case if we get nothing higher tier than 9-12.

Anyone in a similar situation, trying to keep a high level character steady at 12 just in case? (Not to mention I haven't touched my 702 in a year just in case there's a Perplexity sequel in tier 5-8...)

I hold out hope for high level content (11-14 or even 13-16). I hold this hope due to the example of season 10, the last season of pathfinder society first edition.
