Fear in a Handful of Rust

Monday, September 25, 2023

An unusual surprise came to Osprey Cove the morning after the storm. On an early dawn walk to appraise the storm’s damage, Elder Johedia stumbled across a gravely wounded man at the edge of town. Suffering from exposure, two infected crossbow bolt wounds, and a strange sickness that left rust-red splotches all over his body, the man gasped an unsettling warning before he died: “Iron Harbor... rust... ship... all dead... before... too late...

The man was dressed in rusted armor and clutched an equally rusted religious symbol of Gorum in one hand. This, and his final words, suggested something dreadful had occurred in the nearby village of Iron Harbor. Osprey Cove’s youngest leader, Elder Ordwi, quickly organized an expedition to make the daylong trip east to Iron Harbor, in order to offer aid as needed but also extend overtures of peace, hopefully bringing an end to the yearslong feud between the two Kindred Coast villages.

Whether you volunteered or were recruited, your group is now well on their way along the Old Coast Road as Elder Ordwi’s escorts. What awaits your arrival at Iron Harbor?

New Vanessa adventure, and a T. S. Eliot ref? Who could ask for more?

While Seven Dooms (which will be set up to transition flawlessly from Rusthenge, from the sounds of it) is going to be a few months out yet, it's nice to have another "intro" adventure available beyond what's in the BBox.

Hopefully this does well!

Also the art is baller and works great for an intro adventure.

Consider this the successor to Pathfinder Adventure: Fall of Plaguestone, which will soon be out of print.

It is an adventure for first through third level characters.

It is pre-remaster/OGL, but you’ll be able to use remastered characters to play starting in November.

This is our year blending, like a churn of elements. :)

Droooool.
I say fight fire with fire. Or, uh, in this case, 'handful of rust' with Rain of Rust.

Was just looking for something like this, aweomse.

Really stoked to have a new go-to intro, and to see what all the Varisia/Thassilon hype is about!

From the office of expectation management, there's barely any Varisia content in Rusthenge, other than in its background (the settlers who came to establish towns on the Kindred Coast came from Riddleport, and some later from Magnimar). But it's all about New Thassilon... a part of this one is to show folks that you can do 1st level adventures there (classically, we set higher level adventures in these regions).

Seven Dooms for Sandpoint's the next big Varisia adventure.

Rusthenge! 'Tis a magic place
Where the moon doth rise with a dragon's face
Rusthenge! Where the virgins lie
And the prayers of devils fill the midnight sky
