Prepare for the New and Improved Free RPG Day!

July 25, 2020

Free RPG Day works with top RPG Publishers to create the can’t miss RPG event of the year at hobby game stores around the world.

Participating retailers receive an abundance of new and exclusive RPG adventures, products, and accessories to provide the ultimate day of RPG gaming with giveaways and massive foot traffic.

Gamers get to play new games, publishers get exposure and hype for their core products, and retailers get booming sales.

Paizo is proud to again sponsor Free RPG Day and we are excited to unveil our adventures for you today!

Pathfinder Adventure: Little Trouble in Big Absalom

Always living in the shadows is hard when you’re a clever and regal creature like a kobold. Now it’s time to make a name for yourself and bring honor and prestige to your clan.

In Little Trouble in Big Absalom, you take on the role of one of five kobolds from the Hookclaw clan tasked with exploring a treasure-laden vault discovered by a team of Hookclaw diggers. Enticed by the potential wealth, the kobolds brave terrible dangers in what turns out to be a *spoiler* before being asked by the kind old lady to retrieve her magical hedge trimmer from a neighbor’s garden.

Little Trouble in Big Absalom includes two mini adventures that can be played back to back or alone—filling as much or as little time as you have for madcap adventure. In addition, the five pregenerated kobold characters provide a preview of the upcoming Pathfinder Advanced Player’s Guide in this exciting offering for Free RPG Day! Grab some dice and some friends and play the role of determined kobolds!

Starfinder Adventure: Skitter Home

Even the most helpful six-armed heroes sometimes need a little rest and relaxation. But while on vacation to their homeworld, our veteran skittermanders come face-to-face with a threat far more dangerous than they could have expected. Once again, this fuzzy crew must save the day!

In these unique adventures, players can tackle two harrowing incidents in any order they wish, or they can play them separately as standalone sessions. In the first, they party at Reetamander, a festival celebrating a lunar eclipse on the skittermanders’ homeworld, but are forced to confront a villain who attempts to sabotage the festivities. In the second, their underground hunting expedition turns into a rescue mission when stridermanders—massive, terrifying cousins of the skittermander species—wreak havoc in the caves.

In addition to these versatile adventures, this book includes four pregenerated characters that are ready to play, with full stat blocks and backstories. The inside covers include all of the maps needed for this adventure.

Skitter Home is a raucous affair written for the popular Starfinder Roleplaying Game. It’s intended for four 4th-level skittermander characters who are looking for some fun before jumping into action like the helpful heroes that they are.

Join in the fun and grab a copy of Paizo's Free RPG Day offerings while supplies last. These special adventures were created specifically for Free RPG Day 2020. The print editions will be available for sale and free PDF downloads will be available on paizo.com 30 days after Free RPG Day.

Why is this capturing my imagination so much more than all the rest of the description... I'm sure there's something more to that. It's just too... "normal"... xD

Well, they did get the title wrong, as it's Little Trouble in Big Absalom.

Wait, Germans got something wrong. They've made a factual error. What year is it, is this 202...

Given the current state of the world right now, is there any plan to do any kind of digital release on July 25th?

No, it's actually planned to keep the English title, to preserve the association to the movie, which also was named in English in Germany. But then, the guys who made the crowdfunding page didn't get the joke. Probably someone thought, "Wait, this must be wrong..."

Actually, the German Pathfinder releases often get the titles wrong (or at least very inaccurate). What's worse, sometimes they make mistakes within the actual rules (I have seen a few instances where a little detail was left out, making the rule work totally different from the English original). That, and the fact that some translations sound very odd (at least to me), is the reason I stick to the English books.

Getting back to the actual topic, I would also be interested in knowing whether there will be a change to the digital release plan.
Also, will the sanctioning for PFS/SFS be ready on Free RPG day?

Man I HOPE that stores are open again by then.

They are open in our area.

I'm so looking forward to Skitter Home!

And I might actually play Little Trouble in Big Absalom despite not caring for PF2 because kobolds!

Sad, but both the PF2 and SFS adventures look fun.

Well, at least they're very popular (which is, after all, the point).

Well, Skittermanders can be a legal race in Starfinder Society and Kobolds are one of the 5 ancestries in the upcoming Advanced Player's guide, so they are kind of normal adventurers.

Considering the number of legal races in SFS, just having fur, 6 arms, and being super helpful puts you dedicatedly on the "normal" side of races ^^

Oof, don't remind me. I was not a fan of that one, and neither were our local players.

Will the PF2 and SF modules be sanctioned for PFS2 and SFS?

Will the pregens and sanctioning be available before Free RPG day?

I am not OrgPlay Leadership. But in general, that is what has happened every other year. I expect it will happen this year as well.

Alas, in store gaming is not happening in Minnesota with the pandemic. This will be the first Free RPG Day where I won't be GMing for the actual event. :/

Hmm

Just a thought... whenever your favorite local game store does open, or if they are open, but run out of stock, or if they are not participating, you could download the free PDF (30 days later), or order the print from us, and game at the store, at home or on Twitch. Buy stuff in their store, because that is the point. Invite newbies. Take pics. Post on social media. Tag us. We could repost. It could be a thing. It could work around the world and last a whole year. What do you think?

I'm also sad that PACG/PACS seems to have been abandoned. I ran "We Be Heroes?" at my local gaming store last year, and it was a blast!

Given the current state of the world and Paizo employees having to still work at home, I'm surprised we're even getting a Free RPG Day set of mini-adventures. Hopefully when things get more manageable next year, we can see about them doing another PACG addition.

The 2nd picture is for a "Stafinder Adventure"? I think this might call for some crowfunding . . . .
