Now Docking at Absalom Station

Thursday, April 27, 2017

August is fast approaching, which means not only the release of the Starfinder Roleplaying Game, but also the debut of the first Starfinder Adventure Path, Dead Suns! The Starfinder Adventure Path presents a series of linked adventures that together form an entire campaign for the Starfinder RPG. The Dead Suns Adventure Path will run for a year, with a new volume released every other month. Each volume includes a new adventure for the campaign, supplementary articles on the Starfinder campaign setting, and new rules content for the Starfinder RPG, as well as a new planet, a new starship, and loads of new aliens and monsters!

To whet your appetite for spacefaring danger and derring-do, check out this preview of the cover for the first Dead Suns adventure, "Incident at Absalom Station." Artist David Alvarez did a great job depicting the leader of one of Absalom Station's most notorious street gangs, and shows us two of the Starfinder iconics in action, as Navasi and Keskodai take on some alien beasties that might look familiar to some.

"Incident at Absalom Station" hits store shelves and paizo.com in August, where player characters will have the chance to face these threats themselves. Until then, stay tuned over the coming months for more Starfinder previews!

Akatas. Why did it have to be Akatas?

Because in a futuristic society, Akatas make great meme material. Akata floof doing a heckin void bite. Salt water gives akata pupper a big frighten.

One of the big challenges with releasing the Adventure Path at the same time as the Core Rulebook was the fact that Alien Archive won't be out until October. As a result, the first few volumes of the AP make heavy use of the new monsters in the AP Alien Archives (the bestiary in the back of each volume), and where necessary, with full stat blocks.

Why on earth would you not just start the AP in October? Either that, or pre-release relevant parts of the Alien Archive in SRD.

We're always being told to wait until an AP is done before running it anyway, and we'd clearly have the Alien Archive by that time. This seems like something that will adversely impact the adventure quality, draining a lot of page count in statblocks and having a lot of repetitive encounters with the same monsters. This makes me have concerns about pre-ordering the AP after all.

It is the first few levels on a Space station, so its not too hard to imagine getting a lot of mileage out of the base classes and existing races. There is also the Free RPG Day supplement that will be out by then.

Hey, pugwampis transcend time and space. You've clearly forgotten all the current Bestiary goodies we already have that you know and hate love.
