Oh I know that's the Earth myth. I'm just thinking, maybe Krampus got tired of the competition and decided to take out the big man himself. And with Chris Kringle out of the way, that'll make child abduction that much easier. Work smart, not hard. ![]()
![]() Forget stating up Santa, how about stating up the ghost of Christmas past, Christmas present, and Christmas yet to come. They could be (possibly unique)fey that are connected to holidays instead of nature. Basically going around to get people more into the holidays or help someone become better person. ![]()

Nah, the Krampus is no match for Father Christmas! He's a mythic kickbutt master of holiday cheer that will come to town on Krampus's behind! Cause he's got a list and he's checking it twice and when it comes to Krampus Santa's definately not nice! :D ![]()

I think you may be thinking on an online enhancement WotC did in 2005. He was a NG Male Human Druid 13/Cleric 5/Rogue 2. I once copy/pasted his stats on here, but had my post zapped by the powers that be. Copyright issues no doubt. Anywhere, here he is to interested parties. Nicholas the Gift-Giver. There was a related PDF detailing the Xmas compound, including stats the gnome "servants." It can be found here: Nicholas the Gift-Giver's Northern Palace. Berselius wrote:
Considering Santa is loosely based on Odin... you may very well be right. But I always root for the underdog. Especially if the underdog is irredeemably evil, so... go Krampus! ![]()

Don't stat Santa. "If it can be statted, it can be killed."

This is indeed Krampus's art for Bestiary 6. There aren't intentionally any other holiday-themed creatures in the book, unless I'm forgetting one or two in a haze of post egg-nog blurs. And while it's not quite time yet to reveal Krampus's stats (I kinda wanna let those stay secret till the book is out) I can reveal the fact that he's a unique monstrous humanoid, is CR 21 and is VERY hard to kill, and has a "punish the naughty" special attack. Oh, and tongues as a constant spell-like ability. Pun somewhat intended. ![]()
![]() Fey was going to be a tough sell for something like this because of 1/2 BAB. It's no mistake that absolutely none of the Tane, the assassins and chief warriors of the fey Eldest, are actually of the fey type. The only fey I can think of that is decent at melee combat is the Vilderavn, and they had to give it free +5 weapons and armor to make that happen. ![]()

There's plenty of interesting additions to the fey type in this book. One of my goals for Bestiary 6 was not only to have more tough monsters, but to augment those categories of monsters who, for whatever reason, have NEVER really gotten tough monsters. Monstrous humanoid was something of a surprise to me; before Bestiary 6, there were maybe one or two or three monstrous humanoids over like CR 10, and those were all thriae, I believe. There's plenty more in this book to help keep the monstrous humanoid type relevant beyond 10th level. :P And just because Krampus isn't fey doesn't mean he can't be tied to druidic traditions or the natural world! As for fey that are "decent at combat," I'm pretty confident that the Wild Hunt will please folks. Well... some folks at least. Other folks can't be pleased, but I'd rather not waste time chasing ghosts that can't be caught. ![]()

There are a few others. Jorogumos are CR 12. Annunaki are CR 18/MR 7. Elder Deep Ones are CR 14. Formian Queens are CR 17. Gegenees are CR 16. Grendel is CR 19/MR 7 and a precedent for Krampus' approach. Humbabas are CR 19. Popobala are CR 15. Rokurokobi are CR 14. Stormghosts are CR 15. Vouivre are CR 12. I think that's it for main Bestiaries. A couple more in setting specific books. ![]()

Yeah, Dragon did back in the mid 80s, I think. Though I can't think of what they did for him. I think you're correct on the classes, though. ![]()

Sounds pretty cool. Though I always sort of feel like famous, unique mythological creatures tend to get over CR'd. I mean, Krampus is a weird devilish looking thing that punishes children who misbehave. Just given his purview he sounds like a decent encounter for like, level 5 characters. Children disappearing from a village. Red herring with a tribe of goblins or orcs. Investigating. Etc. Meeting with Krampus, bam the end of your low level story arc. Putting him alongside Great Wyrms, Titans and just below Solars feels weird. But like I said, could say the same about other creatures I think, like the Jabberwock or Grendel or Cthulhu. ![]()

Or something else entirely? ![]()

The Wild Hunt is a creature that's to be released in the Bestiary 6. I can't express how much I'm happy to know that it is indeed Fey related. But now I'm intrigued if it is indeed a single being or a group. Or maybe even a template for fey creatures... @.@
