Introducing Six New Agents!

There are just a few more iconic characters left to bring into Pathfinder Society. Alain has held up the process by demanding we make his character sheet *perfect*.

Over the past several weeks, the design team and other authors have been introducing us to the new Pathfinder RPG Occult Adventures iconic characters and sharing some of the changes incorporated since the playtest in late 2014. Subscribers have already begun receiving PDF copies of the new book, which we'll have added to the Additional Resources in time for Gen Con 2015 in just over a week.

Much as we did with the Advanced Class Guide for Gen Con last year, we have also prepared 1st-, 4th-, and 7th-level pregenerated characters for use in the Pathfinder Society Organized Play campaign for Occult Adventures. These include all of the necessary rules needed to play the character, down to the abridged spell descriptions and class ability explanations. One of the unique challenges in designing these characters was the sheer versatility of them—especially in the case of the occultist, whose base statistics can change depending on how he allocates his mental focus. As a result, we presented those characters with a recommended distribution of points, and we're sure that a player who wants to shuffle those around can add to and subtract from a few modifiers if necessary.

Download them, and use them in your next game!

He's not; the Champion happens to give him an exact combination of bonuses that appear to be that.

Wait, did Slashing Grace get an unseen errata that allows it to affect light weapons at some point?

Soooo, these pregens have scooped me/the PDT in more ways than one (I also wrote both kineticist blogs for this week, for instance; for maximum fun from the Wednesday blog, I highly recommend not reading the Yoon pregen's backstory on the character sheet until you can hear it "from Yoon" in the blog). The pregens also scooped the ACG errata. I can confirm that Erasmus is not in error as of printing 2 of the ACG.

Wait, there's a second printing of the ACG?

It has been mentioned that Erzen is a Pathfinder and should have a wayfinder. ...

We have not updated any other characters at this time. Our first priority was to get the Occult Adventures pregenerated characters in people's hands. After Gen Con we're hoping to have more development time to revisit the pregen-less iconics and review earlier ones.

Alright, sounds good.

Might want to give a wayfinder to Mavaro (the Occultist) at the same time. It mentions that he has joined the Pathfinder Society in his background.

I'm not seeing that in the Meet the Iconics: Mavaro blog post. Ezren, on the other hand, is definitely a known Pathfinder.

So very soon now...

The current comic series, Pathfinder Origins, is Sheila grilling Ezren and his associates to see if they are made of the right stuff to be Pathfinders. Ezren gets a pass for getting horribly maimed and then saving Sheila's life.

The second to last line of the level 1 pre-gen sheet says:

Mavaro pre-gen wrote:
Quietly, though, he seeks the relics he traded away long ago, and this mission has led him to join the Pathfinder Society.

I take that to mean that even at first level he is a Pathfinder. Thus the comment about his equipment should include a wayfinder.

Some of the pregens have something like that added to their backstory on the pregen but not the iconic, sort of to explain why they're there on the missions. Being a member of the Society is not part of the iconic Mavaro's backstory, however.

I'm interested in 'aging up' Yoon. What mechanical adjustments were made for her? Please don't just say, "we made her smal" I'm looking for the actual numbers (as some people make them small through different means).

Score 2 for pregens scooping awesome fixes! (1st being errata for CSW with Emotional Conduit)

Poor Yoon. All them Bonekeeps, Hinojais and Sealed Gates.

I love that the bender (woops, I meant kineticist) is a human but I would love to actually see an older Yoon. There's something about having a young kid character in something like pathfinder society that leaves a bad taste.

You guys gotta make a plushie Gom-Gom!

The alignment section for Estra lists her alignment as NG at Level 1, but simply as N at the later levels. I contribute to a Pathfinder wiki, and for chronicling purposes, which of these is her proper alignment?

There is a typo on the level 7 Psychic pages for the feat "Third Eye".
"Third Eye -Rivani can open her third up for up to 7 minutes each day,".
Pretty sure that should say, "Rivani can open her third eye for up to 7 minutes each day,".

I'd like to thank whoever added the individual files for each level of pregen. It does make it easier to restock them.

I wasn't so much making a reference, but noting that all her character build resources are spent on things shut down by "immune: magic" or "immune: fire".

As a GM, there's some scenarios where I'll just have to tell players "Don't pick her, you won't have fun."

Ah! That makes more sense. I remember posts on the thread about how most PFS bosses and characters can be defeated by a single spider swarm. Yoon is one of the few characters who annihilates swarms even at level 1 (move action gather energy + fan the flames). So that would mean Yoon will probably have lots and lots of encounters with spiders, centipedes, bats etc, because of her swarm killing potential.

A young girl constantly dragged into creepy caves, haunted mansions, decrepit buildings and the like for the sole purpose of killing hundreds if not thousands of spiders swarming all over the place? She's very likely going to have some issues as an adult.

I can see it now...

"Can you tell me what happened here, ma'am?" the guard asked the young woman before him.

"Of course officer... You see, there was a spider, and I panicked," she said with a rueful grin. "Oh don't worry, I'm pretty certain it's gone now!"

She must have drifted at some point between level 1 and level 4. They may both be correct.

I am wondering, since Yoon can be young, why can't Alain be a 15-pt build?

How old is Yoon supposed to be, anyway? Her backstory mentions something that happened when she was eight years old, so she must be at least that old and is probably slightly older since there is no indication that the event in question just happened. However, the average height of an eight-year-old girl is slightly over four feet (the cutoff between Small and Medium size), so I guess we must assume that she is small for her age, whatever it is.

For a child, she spent her wealth-by-level awfully responsibly. I figured 5000gp at least would go toward candy.

Duh! I can just buy a candy store with my presties and get all the candy I want. I do stuff like that all the time like when I bought that fireworks making workshop. Why do you think I don't have any presty points when you bring me to an adventure?

Are you assuming modern height averages? There is a chance those are different in a medieval society. Not sure, just a thought.

I'm excited to see these out so soon. My husband just finished laminating the other ones to keep them is good shape and let people write on them with dry erase.

Not by much, the average height of a European man in the medieval age was 5'8" and the average height of a European man today is 5'10".

[Edit] It's worth noting that that the average height of people from China and other east Asian countries is over-all shorter than those of western countries.

Read her backstory again. She grew up poor, probably in a household where frugal saving was the watchword. In other words, she wasn't raised as an American suburbanite. And more likely she acquired and scrounged her stuff rather than ordering it at MagicMart.

Diet can influence it alot. The Germanic barbarian tribes for instance, towered over the Romans because they were on the Atkins diet, and the Roman soldiers were grain-fed. We also have a lot of Colonial era houses in this neck of the country and visting them you'll notice that the ceilings are all rather low, even in the higher class houses like Dey Mansion in Wayne, NJ.

Without watermark and with a last updated date would be ideal. It shouldn't matter who printed out the pre-generated characters, but it can matter if some are out of date.

Didn't there used to be 15-pt APG iconics that were PFS legal at one point, but were removed because they didn't fit the character creation rules for PFS?

Now I see how she is more likely to be size Small. Apparently the modern average height of an eight-year-old girl is 50 inches, or 4'2". With the confirmation that eight is indeed her current age and the fact that she is an undernourished Tian, it is not much of a stretch for her to be more than two inches shorter than an average modern girl of her age.

Kind of wish they had decided to add ten or so years to Yoon's pregen incarnation. I'm going to have to battle my instincts to avoid slapping heavy penalties on her during social encounters.

But Mr. p-sto, I couldn't have been involved with burning down that big warehouse, could I? I'm just a kid!

4/5

Fine a +4 to bluff, -4 to intimidate and diplomacy can swing either way depending on how much the NPC in question can be swayed by cuteness.

4/5

I accept! And in fact I actually get that -4 Intimidate from size anyways. Just so long as making flames gives me a circumstance bonus to Intimidate...hmmm, that might be a problem for the Bluff about not burning the building though!

4/5

I was actually thinking modifications in addition to preexisting bonuses and penalties (unfortunately this goes beyond the scope of GM discretion in PFS as far as I know). Though I will say the idea of the eight year old girl wreathed in flames while speaking to dignitaries at the fancy dinner party at the embassy is entertaining enough that I might want to see that happen.
