Official Call for PaizoCon 2014 Volunteers

Monday, January 27, 2014

For PaizoCon 2014, we plan to make this bigger than last year! I am scheduling 210 tables of Pathfinder Society over three days. We will be offering all season five scenarios multiple times, including the debut of the final four scenarios for season five. We will also be debuting a playtest of one of the Season 6 Gen Con Specials on Friday night. This is similar to the multi-table special that will be run as one of the Gen Con specials, but like last year, there will be changes made to polish the adventure for its final publication. Finally, we be offering the GM 101 and GM 201 sessions again. It should be an awesome time.

I need a minimum of 75 volunteer GMs for Pathfinder Society games and I'll keep taking volunteer GMs until the slots are filled! I also need 4 Volunteer Assistants for the show—these folks will not GM, but will instead help me run Pathfinder Society HQ and will be our go-to guys and gals for all things Pathfinder Society. Finally, we need 6-8 volunteers for the Pathfinder Adventure Card Game.

Below you will find the reward structure for volunteering at PaizoCon 2014. Keep in mind that you're volunteering for slots, not a specific event. We will let you know the slots you have been assigned to before the lottery goes live. This should allow you plenty of time to plan a schedule with your friends who are also attending PaizoCon 2014. Please let me know via email which days you will be at the convention and how many slots you are volunteering for at PaizoCon 2014.

Volunteer Tiers and Rewards

Volunteer Assistant: 4 needed, treated as a Tier 1 GM

Tier 1 GM Volunteers: Tier 1 GM volunteers are my everyday GMs. They are invaluable to making the show a success! Tier 1 GMs must select and volunteer for a MINIMUM of 5 slots. I only have room for 30 Tier 1 GM volunteers so don't delay in volunteering for this tier. Volunteers will be chosen on a first-come, first-served basis, though I reserve the right to select volunteers who have previously worked for Paizo over new volunteers. Please do not volunteer for Tier 1 if you have any doubts that you'll be able to attend the show. Tier 1 GMs receive:

  • A FREE 3-day PaizoCon 2014 badge
  • A $10-per-slot voucher for Paizo.com credit, useable at the show or anytime after, including with your subscriptions.
  • A FREE copy of one printed Paizo product of your choice valued at $49.99 or less.
  • A FREE PFS goblin volunteer t-shirt.
  • A special Pathfinder Society GM boon available only at PaizoCon.

Tier 2 GM Volunteers: While the rewards for volunteering for this tier are smaller, the majority of my volunteers will come from Tier 2. Tier 2 GMs must volunteer for a MINIMUM of 4 slots. Tier 2 GMs receive:

  • A FREE 3-day PaizoCon 2014 badge.
  • A $10-per-slot voucher for Paizo.com credit, useable at the show or anytime after, including with your subscriptions.
  • A FREE PFS goblin volunteer t-shirt.
  • A special Pathfinder Society GM boon available only at PaizoCon.

Tier 3 GM Volunteers: This is the minimum volunteer level. Tier 3 GMs must volunteer for a MINIMUM of 2 slots. Tier 3 GMs receive:

  • A $10-per-slot voucher for Paizo.com credit, useable at the show or anytime after, including subscriptions.
  • A FREE PFS goblin volunteer t-shirt.
  • A special Pathfinder Society GM boon available only at PaizoCon.

While we will gladly accept anyone who wants to run just one slot during the show, there are no rewards for doing so other than our thanks.

When volunteering, please be specific about what days you are volunteering for. I will assign folks to scenarios on an as-needed basis, so you really only need to tell me the day(s) you're volunteering for. You may also include the tier of scenarios you are most comfortable GMing and I will try to assign you that schedule accordingly. I will update the needs in the thread below as I receive volunteers, so you may look there to remain up to date on where we still need help. You must have a paizo.com account and you must include your paizo.com email and message board name in your email to me, or I won't be able to get you a badge (obviously this is only for volunteers who are volunteering for 4 or more slots).

Slot 1: Friday 8 A.M. to 1 P.M.

Slot 2: Friday 1 P.M. to 6 P.M.

Slot 3: Friday 7 P.M. to 12 A.M.

Slot 4: Saturday 8 A.M. to 1 P.M.

Slot 5: Saturday 1 P.M. to 6 P.M.

Slot 6: Sunday 9 A.M. to 2 P.M.

All PaizoCon 2014 volunteers please email me at mike.brock@paizo.com with the subject line PaizoCon Volunteer.

Thanks in advance for volunteering, good luck, and have a great spring convention season!

Mike, have you gotten all of the volunteers that you need?

Grand Lodge 4/5

I think he still needs some time to sort through everything. :)

Got my schedule!

Lol suffice it to say I am just a little embarrassed.

Doc, I did the same thing but on the Facebook page.

A friend told me that they had announced the call for GenCon volunteers and I blindly commented on the post. Nope... wrong side of the country.

I wish I could go to PaizoCon, but I'll see you all at GenCon!

So are we allowed to mention our penciled-in schedules? Or our Tier? Or since that's still being hashed out, should we keep mum?

PS- I'm in... somewhere. :P

I still have 35-40 emails to go through. Most PFS GM slots will be filled. We could still use some card game people to help demo the card game. I will update at end of day when I get through all emails.

If you have received your schedule, it is conformed and you can shout it from the ramparts!

"Global Organized Play Coordinator" is that title new?

Yes sir.

I have made it through all of the emails. I have 6-7 PFS tables left looking for GMs. I have 6-7 Card Game tables left each slot. I also have a few GM 101 and 201 instructor spaces open in Slots 1 and 2, 4 and 5. All HQ spots are now full.

Once those are full, I will start a waiting list.

Thanks to everyone who has volunteered. We filled 155+ tables and volunteer positions in 24 hours.

I will wait for my PFS GM schedule to be solidified. I've already injected it with Con-damaging poisons in anticipation to make its Fort save as low as possible.

Liberty's Edge 5/5

Curious, last year how big was the waiting list for PFS games? Every game I played in had 6 players, except for one that had 7. I know that PaizoCon's PFS games are size-limited by the venue, but I can't help but suspect, given how fast you got GMs, that there might be demand for lots more PFS at PaizoCon.

I'll just have to make sure that I pay attention to when the signups come out, so that I can get into games when I'm not GMing....

Am looking forward to GMing at PaizoCon. I already feel like I'm losing my voice just thinking about it... :)

The Tier 1 GMs are, at minimum, 120 tables, and they're one of the smaller tiers. I'd assume the Tier 2 and 3s are at least that many tables, so hopefully there's plenty for everyone.

PS- Got my schedule, but I'm not sharin' 'til everything's solid. As it is, looks like I'll be seeing a lot of 1-5s. Pack appropriately. :D

The Paizo folks are machines. Pathfinder Paper Minis was officially created in an e-mail exchange with Erik Mona at home with a hideous flu. And I think Golarion's map was confirmed while Lisa Stevens was hunting polar bears in the arctic with handaxes and a bottle of rum as her only equipment.

Welcome to the fold. :)

I've been running buckets of 1-5s for my local PFS chappies, what with all the new folks, so I wouldn't have complained if a 5-9 or 7-11 came down the pipe. But I figure this is a good way to meet lots of new folks, so 1-5 sounds okie-cozy to me.

Getting volunteers isn't the problem. I am limited to 35 tables in the room and so I can only schedule 35 games per slot.

Silver Crusade 4/5

High tiered players beware... Lady Ophelia is pulling out all the stops with Fate of The Fiend and The Season Six special. Check your prestige and inventory sheets at the door.

mid tiers will get their meddle tested in day of the demon and season 6 at my tables! Fear the Legendary Drabbit

I'll be keeping some low-level Pathfinders in line and on track in the Season 6 Special. Hoping to make it a blast and a half.

I hope you can kick a few of those tables to another room - even if it means a few less for the special. The noise last year wasn't the worst ever (2012), but still was quite difficult to get past.

2012 was the sound of a jet engine taking off for twelve hours. I seriously got disoriented just trying to find my buddy and check to see how his table was going.

I never went into the big room in 2013, but it seemed better. I hope I can survive 2014 without going (more) deaf. :P

Grand Lodge 4/5 Venture-Agent, West Virginia—Martinsburg

Tier 1 slot please. You know me and my need to run scenarios.

Grand Lodge 4/5 Global Organized Play Coordinator

All GM slots, GM 101/201, and HQ slots are currently full. I still have plenty of room for card game volunteers. If you want to be placed on a waiting list in the event someone cancels their trip, email me and I will place you on that list.

Scarab Sages 5/5

I am avalable for all slots. If there are kids track I would like this.

My brother has invited me to come to this event. I am going to be attending for the first time (don't do the RPG thing much) so would love to volunteer as much as you would like for the Admin/HQ positions. I woudl like an email or something so we can discuss this if possible? I did not see a way to contact you through the message itself.

You're best off keeping an eye on the web site, the Facebook page, and the PFS Grand Lodge messageboard for information.

I know you are really busy. Do we know when the GMs will be given their pdfs for what they are going to run for this?

Thanks

Past experience suggests older scenarios will likely show up a couple weeks before. The new releases may not show up with much advance notice, due to deadline pressure. If it's something already released, I've always found that the $4 is worth the extra prep time I get.

I sent Mike Brock an email a few days ago offering to run the card game. He hasn't sent me an email back, which isn't surprising considering how busy he is. Do we know if all of the slots have been filled on that?
