Whatcha Want, Fiction Fans?

Thursday, November 7, 2013

Pathfinder Tales has been going strong for a couple of years now, and I'm happy to say that I'm still just as excited about it as when it first launched. We've gone from werewolves in Ustalav to the Outer Planes, an evil magical academy in Nidal to the high seas. In the months to come, we've got vikings and barbarians, bardic super-spies, soul-stealing in Kaer Maga, and more.

Yet we're still just scratching the surface. Which is why I want to know: What do you want to see from Pathfinder Tales? Is there a certain class or race you want to read about? Do you have a favorite nation we haven't been to yet—or one you can't wait to visit again? Are there certain types of stories you're pining for? Here at Paizo Fiction Headquarters, we're always trying to figure out what people will be most interested in—which means that our jobs are way easier if you tell us.

So sound off, fiction-lovers: What do you want to see more of from the Pathfinder Tales line?

After reading a Pirate's Promise I want more...

also maybe a book with just Vreva Jhafae as the main character...have to say the book put her on my top ten favorite fictional character list.

non-humans! let's have way more non-human main characters!

NOT-rogue halflings as main characters. elves that are actually hardcore nature-lovers or crazy mystics. aasimar that are all about crusades and redemption or something would be way, waay cool.

my favorite characters have always been the outliers that "break the mold" in these books. Radovan the funny and charismatic tiefling, Opharl the lonely and forlorn elf paladin, Eliara(sp?) the motherly elf ranger from Stalking the Beast and her righteous, lawful half-orc charge are all excellent examples. Celeste, the lunar naga love interest from Pirate's Promise was also unbelievably refreshing. Reading that book merely whetted my appetite for more monstrous main characters, rather than sating it.

Vreva Jhafae is the best character in that whole story! She totally deserves her own novel, all to herself.

a book with a protagonist intentionally trying to be heroic, as opposed to be paid, or obligation to a god or organization, or out for vengence. (ophral was a good start, but she was really only 1/3 of the king of chaos)

more books by ellen guon, time pratt and james strutter.

oh my gosh lets combine a bunch of ideas and have a book about how a ghoran and an android investigator survive on another planet!!

but also I want to bold this, a book with a protagonist intentionally trying to be heroic, as opposed to be paid, or obligation to a god or organization, or out for vengence; because, yeah, it does wear a little thin after a while...

Seconded so so much.

I have so many Golarion character ideas along those lines. I just need to clear more time to devote to writing some stories involving them. Maybe something for Wayfinder...

I predict we will have such a book in Summer 2016.

Bring on the gnomes!

I would love to see a witch as one of main good character in one of these books. Maybe there is one out there admittedly I still have 8 books left before I completely catch up.

Unless there's one in Nightblade, I can't think of any.

I believe you're going to want to pick up Firesoul. There's a good character in there I'd likely classify as a witch. Not the main protagonist, but certainly someone with a fair amount of "screen time."

There's no witch in Nightblade (nor in anything else I've done or have planned). I don't have a very clear understanding of the class and I'm leery of writing a class where I don't feel like I've got a firm grasp of either the mechanics or the fluff.

I'm pretty sure Azra from Prince of Wolves is a witch, though.

(edit: or is she an oracle? man, I need to reread.)

I feel pretty secure in calling Azra an oracle.

A Gnomish Paladin whose obsession had to do with maintaining traffic flow.... Think CHiPS meets the Lost Coast Road.

On a more serious note, do any stories have a Bleachling, or one trying to stop or reverse the process? That could be interesting to see a gnome die the slow, sad death to their sense of wonder, perhaps through the viewpoint of a LN Hellknight or a selfish CG rogue.

Also, more Red Mantis Assissins, from their POV. I want to see their inner circle, and learn more about their org. Robin Laws gave us a tease, but I want to see much more!

In general, I love when we see the major Golarion factions woven into the stories. Even in small ways, the presence of Hellknights, Aspis agents, Pathfinders, etc make the stories much richer.

IIRC, Queen of Thorns has a gnome Druid that becomes a bleachling.

For a bleachling character, check out Queen of Thorns.

I want more ePubs! I need to catch up on my Pathfinder's Journals.

I'd actually love to see fiction exploring more outside of Golarion- like a planet or two from Distant Worlds, and the aliens species that live on them.

I'd like to see a story about an enigmatic Hermean Exile who makes a dangerous journey back to the island of his birth in order to expose a deadly secret.

Also, Mengkare's stat block replaces the product placement normally found in the back of the book. His alignment is included.

:p

Literally now a AP <3
