I just got the pdf of the book and I must say F. Wesley Schneider, you treat the Elohim with a care for their origin that i truly admire, while still making them your own, i especially like the cryptic communication.

My interest peeked at these guys more than the other gods or god-like due to the fact I am named after the word Elohim, mine being Elo. So thanks for the answer and great great book!

It's actually good they take the templated monsters and make them their own thing for Polymorph purposes. Since by the rules, you can't polymorph into an animal with templates, by RAW, you can't polymorph into a Velociraptor or Polar Bear or Great White Shark. So I'm glad to see these made into real animals.

And more to the point... the monsters are just fundamentally more interesting and useful if they're not one-line variants mentioned in the bottom of another monster entry. We do that a lot to seed monsters for future Bestiaries, in fact.

In my initial reading, I seem to have confused the Ostiarius with the Oitos. Any clues to when the Oitos is getting stats?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I'm cautiously optimistic about the Velociraptors... if they have art, I hope they are /resplendently/ feathered.

My only complaint is that I can't just find a particular category in the ToC at a glance.

I do have a question, though. Why'd you choose the Empyreal lords you did? Not complaining, just curious.

They are feathered.

I'm not sure about pipefoxes, but pickled punks make for a much better dip than spread, IMHO. They're kinda soupy.

Awesome. Soon as I find the money I'm getting this book!
Can't wait to unleash these fresh horrors on an unsuspecting group XD

Time Dragon please tell me he has to hit 88mph before he can move throught time :) But all joking aside I am glad some of the some of the good guy heay hitters get stats.

Cthulhu, Kaji, and a living wall. I am beyond ecstatic. I understand the living wall is different from 2nd ed and honestly im glad. I don't like having to do that much work for just 1 encounter. Oh and outer dragons just in time for my future game to go high level!

Sweeeeeeeeet

I... don't know what most of those things are! :D

not only are the velociraptors fully feathered (and not in a half-#$# JP 3 way or in a muppet-like manner), but you guys actually got the nasal structure of Diplodocus right! Bravo!

No Azi Dragons? I was expecting them, as well as new ones... =(
I know that it would be news for two classes of True Dragons to come in one bestiary, but I was expecting them just as "Azi", instead of "Azi Dragons".

But, Hastur "The King in Yellow" is in! I was dreaming with him for so long.

Maybe Azi in Bestiary 5.

I hope so. Also, the daemonic harbingers.

Now for a complete Bestiary Index by type, CR etc, PLEASE!

Spacetime dragons? Please don't let them be stronger than golds and sovereigns.

Also, the ARG bonus races are finally appearing in canon material!... no doubt they won't be races anymore, though. The gathlain, wyvaran, etc. will probably all have racial HD now.

Woke up this morning with a terrible migraine... but also my PDFs, so it's not a total wash today. Anyway, to your questions.

Time Dragons, the most powerful of the Outer Dragons, actually start off with one more hit die than Gold or Red, and 2 more points of Dex and Con, but 1 less Str, and either 1 or 2 less Int, Wis, and Cha, so I don't know if you'd call that stronger or not.

None of the ARG example races have any racial HD.

Hey! I'm wrong and it's GOOD for once. Usually, I'm wrong and that causes problems.

But then I'm usually wrong about things anyway.

Sorry if this has been asked and answered:

Which creatures, apart from those already appearing in the ARG are playable character races?

'Nemesis' is misspelled under 'Nemisis Devil'. Sorry, it's what I do.

Really looking forward to this next package!

SNALLYGASTER!

I like many of the monsters, but too bad this is mostly Carrion Crown based, really the ONLY Adventure Path bestiaries I really disliked...

And i'm sad there are more generic Spiders and Scorpions, rather seen some new Vermin Groups getting attention!

Otherwise than that (and the rather more-of-the-same dinosaurs) I really like the list! Hyakume, Harionago, Fossegrim and Abaia for the win!

Too bad no Cherufe, Mahaha and Kamaitachi tho, but i'm sure they end up in bestiary 5 *evil glare* ;-)

One quibble on my part so far...

The races don't have their point costs/breakdowns using the ARG rules. I'd have liked that.

Unfortunately, all the playable races are from the ARG. The ones from the Dragon Empires, the Changeling from Carrion Crown, and the sample races from the race builder section are in. In addition, the Nagaji, Wayang, and Changeling reuse old artwork. Though the artwork for the Race Builder races are pretty awesome.

I really like the art for the changeling, I am glad they used the one from Carrion Crown.

Yeah I do prefer it. I just honestly wasn't a fan of printing the races in the B4 in the first place, and the lack of new art for a couple didn't help much.

I agree about the reprinting the races, it wouldn't be that bad if we at least got a couple of new ones.

on the plus side, if they do a bestiary 5 it's likely to have new races, since so far only two new 0HD races have been produced that are not in a bestiary

Unless Arcadia or Southern Garund are covered in the mean time...

Is it the Dragon Empires Nagaji artwork or the ARG Nagaji artwork?

Ooh, that sounds promising!

Actually we have a lot of 0HD races that are not in a hardcover bestiary.

Lashunta
Android
Ghoran
Syrinx
Monkey Goblin
Triaxian
Eoxian(living version)
Strix
Gillmen
Kuru
Skinwalker

Plus whatever races we will see from the other continents and playable ones from the other planets that haven't been stated up yet.

It's the dragon empire's Nagaji artwork.

Well note I said Bestiary, not Hardcover. I wasn't counting the Inner Sea Bestiary for reasons I have mentioned above

Forgot about Triaxian

Living version of Eoxian still doesn't exist technically, so didn't include it.

Strix and Gillmen are in the Inner Sea Campaign Guide book, and I think the devs have mentioned they won't be reprinting them.

That's still by my count 3 races that formally exist that would need to appear in the next bestiary

Gillmen and Strix are in the ARG.

Munaciello! But LOL! Thank you from Naples! XD
And thanks for swanmays too, but a Swan familiar/companion was needed for them too.

There can be living Eoxians in stasis, or in a time travel or historical adventure, or because your DM wants them to be there.

Considering Gillmen and Strix are in the ARG wich is a world neutral hardcover book I can easily see them in a hardcover bestiary along with the rest of them.

Well what I mean is that Eoxian stats were only given in passing as part of the stats for a bone sage (Which as undead might not be a good baseline for comparison). We haven't gotten an Eoxian write up in a AP or CS bestiary (yet).

I dunno...Gillmen and Strix have been out for awhile...and still haven't showed up in a setting neutral bestiary

Yes, the Gillmen and Strix haven't been in a setting neutral bestiary but at least they have been in a setting neutral hardcover.

Well considering that Eoxians are just humans with a +4 Int and -4 con and well you know mostly dead, I can see why they haven't. Though that doesn't mean I wouldn't mind if they did more stuff with the living version one day.

Modern Eoxians are likely to have different stats than the Bone Sages, given that they are now pretty much living in a creepy, permanent version of Big Brother. Who knows what thousands (?) of years have experimentation have wrought on the living relics of the race.

Modern Eoxians are inbred and sometimes the Bone sages place other humanoids in the mix so you could use human stats(but with Int 5-8), morlocks, or maybe even some mongrelmen.

F*CKING TIME DRAGONS.

SWEET BABY CTHULU YES.

edit: Also, slightly related/unrelated, is the new Blood of the Moon book going to have support for these new were types as well? I would assume yes since they're being released simultaneously.

They're not "new", really. Werebats, -crocodiles, and -sharks were all previously updated to Pathfinder RPG rules in various AP volumes. They just make their first hardbound appearances here.

And yes, they do get support in Blood of the Moon.

Oh, well then, excellent. I'm rather a large fan of the were-shark idea. I had one in a campaign I ran once, essentially had to build the creature myself. Wish I had known about it existing already :P

As far as I, Google, and Wikipedia know, Weresharks actually date all the way back to 1983 in the 1e AD&D Monster Manual II, Werecrocodiles were first printed in a 2e Forgotten Realms supplement in 1990, and Werebats were first in the OD&D Master Rules set in 1985. Like I said earlier, they're not new, by any stretch of the imagination, but B4 is their first appearance in hardback when updated to PfRPG rules.

Do the werebats in Bestiary 4 have claw attacks? The werebat in Carrion Crown had a bite and two claw attacks, which doesn't follow the standard Pathfinder lycanthrope template. (It only grants the hybrid form the natural attacks of the base animal and bats and dire bats only have a bite attack.)
