Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Trailer

Monday, August 5, 2013

We're very excited to share this brand new Pathfinder RPG video trailer, which will be shown on the big screen throughout Gen Con Indy!

Now that we've broken the ice with the first Pathfinder trailer, let it not be the last! Your mission, you creative goblins, is to make your own Pathfinder video. Get creative, get crafty, and we just might choose yours to be the one shown at next year's Gen Con!

Thanks to Gamerati for putting this one together, and to Vancouver's 3 Inches of Blood for letting us use their song, "Battles and Brotherhood", for the soundtrack. Rock on.

Man! Some of those more panoramic pictures bring back memories!

To be honest I didn't like the video at all. Effects were distracting and the music was more annoying than inspiring. I can appreciate the intent... but don't think it hit it.

I would have preferred something more understated like this

That's some really good animation of fixed art right there. Good catch.

The best effects in the PF video were the subtlest ones, IMO, like mist in the background or something.

The music was fine for me. I like heavy metal. I like classical too, so I probably would have liked that as well. The pictures were so different that no one music style would necessarily have worked well for all of them. (The Ustalav-y scenes, for instance, would have worked well with something all pipe-organ-y and sepulchural, while Kyra vs. the scorpion in the desert of Katapesh? Not so much with the goth cathedral music...)

Guys, let's ratchet down the confrontation going on here. Past surveys and threads here have made it clear that there are a lot of metal heads that play Pathfinder, an we thought that this band and song were a good fit for the material. It's all subjective, of course. Different people like different things, and that's ok. We'll likely do more of this type of thing in the future, and we'll likely go with different music then. Since it did take us something like five years to do one video, folks who would prefer a video with classical, country, klezmer, or whatever are encouraged to use the community use rules to make their own.

That's all Jenny is engaged in, here. A little friendly encouragement.

Please feel free to leave your feedback. We're always listening and we'll always take your feedback into consideration as we move forward.

So thanks for the feedback. But let's not get into any fights over music in this thread.

Because if we do, I GUARANTEE you the soundtrack will be speed metal, and apparently some of you won't like that! :)

This video makes me want to do one with Mendevian Crusade and Demon art with the The Bridge of Khazad-dum soundtrack ending with Wrath of the Righteous and Year of the Demon art.

I like heavy metal just fine, this particular song just seemed inappropiate for a fantasy RPG trailer. There are quite enough metal songs I would not have a problem with. Although a good orchestral piece from Two Steps From Hell or a similar group would be even better.

Not a fan of the dismissive tone, either, by the way. The "make one yourself!" argument also is the same kind of comment film critics get when someone doesn't like their reviews, so it doesn't seem too thought-out, either.

Actually some good music to use is Two Steps From Hell or Globus to really capture the whole of the RPG environment in my opinion. Been imagining what the trailer for a mini-series version of Rise of the Runelords would look like with that music.

Well, everybody knows that metal = Satan, Satan = Al-Qaeda and Al Gore, therefore this video is part of the plot to destroy America... Hence the backlash.

Some kind of Therion track would have been pretty sweet. Maybe Quetzalcoatl. Like the track though reminded me of the Sword and some of their tunes

Have any of you guys seen this trailer? I really like it and will always use it as an intro for new players from now until the stars fall.

Well, trying to do a "shaky cam" with still images looks kinda silly and distracting, to be honest. ^^
