...I and Wes Schneider took over the big conference room at Paizo and began to work out what Pathfinder Adventure Path was going to do to follow up its first official campaign for the Pathfinder Roleplaying game. We knew we wanted to do a sandbox-based Adventure Path (in part because we were excited by the challenge, and in part because there was a lot of call and request for something like that from Pathfinder gamers at large), and by the end of an afternoon-suddenly-become-evening-without-us-noticing, we’d sketched out Kingmaker, the idea for building a kingdom, the grid-based settlement-construction concept, and the basic ideas for the region in which the campaign would take place. I went on to craft the outline for the Adventure Path and started hiring authors, while Wes focused on writing a detailed gazetteer for the Stolen Lands that would appear in the Guide to the River Kingdoms alongside the launch of Kingmaker itself.

Later this month, the beloved Kingmaker Adventure Path makes its Pathfinder Second Edition debut with a slate of over a dozen products, both updating the fan-favorite campaign to the new rules set (as well as updating the Pathfinder First Edition rules and expanding into D&D 5E) and incorporating content from the bestselling Pathfinder: Kingmaker computer game from Owlcat Games.

The hardcover edition of Kingmaker presents the largest Adventure Path Paizo has ever published. More than just a conversion of a beloved First Edition Pathfinder Adventure Path, the Second Edition Kingmaker Adventure Path has been significantly expanded with four brand-new adventures (including a new beginning and a new ending) that feature more than enough content for your group to go from 1st-level explorers all the way to 20th-level rulers of Golarion’s newest nation!

Since a bit before all of us at Paizo transitioned into work-from-home mode back in early March, my primary job has been all things Kingmaker. The upcoming 2nd-edition update is one of the largest single print projects we’ve ever attempted at Paizo, with about a thousand pages represented between the 640 page Adventure Path (compare that to, say, the 432 pages in the Rise of the Runelords hardcover compilation), the 128 page Companion Guide (which brings in all 12 companions from Owlcat’s computer game version of Kingmaker), and a pair of Bestiary companions to help folks run the Adventure Path using 1st edition Pathfinder rules or even 5E rules. And this doesn’t even touch the various accessory products—maps and screens and more!
