Master Tactics problems

Commander Class Discussion

I like the master tactics in vacuum they are cool effects and powerful what I don't like about them is they represent sudden and dramatic change in the classes power and play style at 15t level and practice they will probably lead to the other tactics picked up before 15th level seeing a lot less use as they compete for action economy.

I mention this in particular for the master level tactics as neither then expert or legendary tactics entirely replace precious tactics. They add options to deal with problems and once per turn or once per day abilities.

I am not sure if there is a good solution to this. Maybe usage limitations (once a minute perhaps) for master tactics would solve the issue. But I don't know if it would be too much of a nerf.

I understand your point and kind of agree, but at the same time I find myself wishing for the Commander’s tactics to improve (I’m of the opinion that Strike Hard could use a rider - maybe small damage bonus).

Then again, some classes already suffer from that. You get better versions of damage spells, activities that end up replacing your Strikes (Snagging Strike, Double Slice, Slam Down and its inproved version to name a few), etc.

I don’t know if the existence of better versions of base tactics is harmful in itself.

Its a small thing but both master level tactics are so good that they can end up being the only tactic you use which is a little bit disappointing given the prepared martial concept which would kind of indicate picking the right tactic for the ocassion rather than one tactic being right for all occasions.

Isn't this true for Spell Slots though? You eventually never or rarely use your lower spell slots if you're level 15 because you got 8th rank spells. So other then a few utility spells what good is your 1st, 2nd or even 3rd spell slot at that point? Tactics feel the same way honestly.

It's a little bit different because it's quite likely you will only have 1 master tactics which could theoretically replace all of the other tactics and be the only thing you do alongside fortunate blow.

A 15th level spell caster will have 1-3 8th level spells and will still be using 8,7,6,5 spells frequently because of the limited number of spell slots.
