Plastic Dragon's: Sunless Citadel ** Invitation Only **

Still interested!

If someone that needs a game is offering a Half-Orc and/or Rogue... I could step down.

But, I'm thinking this game is in need of some Half-Orc Rogue-y goodness!

Isn't every game?

I'm still interested. :)

Unless we hear from everyone before that. Only missing one at the moment.

"How can you mistake me for anyone else? Oh, you must have missed me because I'm so much shorter than y'all. All you twicelings are way too tall! Y'all just look right over me and never think to look where you're stepping."

" Im jsut trying to make some soup. With some campfire bread. So please try not to knock it over!"

Ping looks over at Dagny and then up at Balthazar before bravely stepping between the two.

"Danger! Tasty soup this way, please make a detour!"

Balthazar stops in his tracks, leaning on his quaterstaff for stability.

”Please calm yourself, miss! I may be nearsighted, but despite my moniker, I’m not blind and perfectly capable of evading a cooking fire. This is all highly irregular, a significant degree of unrestrained roleplaying seems to have broken out before recruitment is even completed. How our unfortunate GM will ever control such a rowdy and reckless group is beyond my imagination. Surely, chaos and tomfoolery awaits us all!”

Obviously about to work himself up to a longer tirade, Balthazar is suddenly interrupted by his own rumbling intestines, reminding him that he has not eaten all day.

”Well…now that you mention it, a bit of soup does actually sound quite nice…” he says sheepishly.

Don't forget 'monkey shine'. You can't have chaos and tomfoolery without some monkey shines as well.

~A. Lurker

You forgot shenanigans, too. Tomfoolery and monkey shines don't have the same feel without some shenanigans.

Also, apologies for the impromptu RP. I get carried away sometimes.

Am still here also - just putting the finishing touches to Torvaa (who if selected I fear will be the wrangler to this motley bag of mad cats :)

Hey, every comedy troupe needs its straight man. :P

Oh god is Dagny the Momager

Wow GM Plastic Dragon I seemed to have missed the invitation. I just happened to check this thread out and saw that Robert Henry had posted my name as having been invited.

When did the invites go out?

Also if you have, since its been while since you started, filled the spot I will understand otherwise I can get something put together fairly quickly, especially if you have a solid idea of what you might need to help the game the most. So let me know GM Plastic Dragon how things stands. I will read back through the posts to see what is what but wanted to put this out there just in case.

I prefer Team Mom, but if the shoe fits. :P

Looking at the current roster, I don't envy the GM a bit.

Monday Sep 18th.

I think things are wide open, he's got to pick an entire party from the listed characters. I believe the deadline is Sep 30th.

I've stated that if someone invited creates a Half-Orc and/or Rogue, I'd step down (somewhere up there).

@Djack, you were invited and you created a very solid Rogue; I switched away from Rogue so as to not step on your toes. I don't see any reason why you should withdraw. You are just as eligible to compete for a spot as anyone else invited.

Personally I have never understood why you can’t have two characters of the same race/ancestry or class. It’s not like the tavern of inestimable meetings is set up just to allow entry (and one would hope, exit, unless it was cursed) to a completely balanced party that “covers” all the “bases”.

Thank you kind Sir, I hadn't realized you had switched for my sake. Does that mean I stepped on your toes?

With my great attribute rolls, I was able to create a melee rogue with high wisdom and darkvision. Had to do it!

I think everyone likes to find/have their niche.

I like the idea of an All-Something (ancestry) party.

Yours, on Sun. SEPT 17th, check your messages, DeJ. I told you there you were welcome to play, but I understood your aversion to "contests", and that I would be choosing 6 characters out of the applications. You're still welcome to apply, since you mentioned interest then, along with your advice.

Cheers!

hmmmm, still lurking to see if the applicants have changed. Happy to do another list if Trawets or Dejoker get a character posted :)

Either way, good luck everyone!

Here is my applicant Laurel Treekeeper. I intend to build him into an arcane archer.

So is this his rebellious phase? :P

In all seriousness, this looks like it'll be a cool build. I do have to wonder if Laurel's silver dragon friend is of any relation to the one that gave the Ibbleting's their affinity for ice magic.

I second this. In Adam Warnock’s Crypty of the Everflame game that is just about to start, we currently have two half-orc druids and two wizards. All of them feel quite distinct, with their own niche for both roleplaying and crunch.

Ah okay I misunderstood what you meant your not inviting me to play in your game but to be part of your contest -- and you are right I oppose this nonsense. So while I am still interested I will wait until you invite me to play the game rather than participate in a meaningless contest that will do nothing to improve your chances to create a solid game that will last. Good luck.

Well, I did feel that my chances of being selected were higher if I brought some unique capabilities to the table, and when the other bard withdrew I saw an opportunity. And once I realized that my rolls would enable Dandelion, I became far more enthused about him that I was about Brathas.

I am in two single-class campaigns (all-fighter Ironfang Invasion at level 11, all-paladin Wrath of the Righteous at level 8) so that kind of concept can also work.

Nothing like a completed list first thing in the morning to get the day started, right?

Folks who are still here:
AdamWarnock: Ping Ibbleting Female Gnome Sorcerer
Djack Nymball: Kaliban the Mishappen Male Half-Orc Rogue
Phillip Gaston: Chestman Barrelhouse Male Dwarf Fighter
Critzible: Dagny Lyght Female Human Cleric of Sarenrae
Trawets71: Laurel Treekeeper Male Elf Fighter
Andostre: Lanliss Endarro Male Elf Cleric of Desna
Jacob Trier: Balthazar the Blind Male Human Wizard (diviner)
Aldizog: Dandelion of EaglesHead Male Dwarf Bard
Black Dow: Torvaa Highmettle Female Dwarf Paladin

If I've gotten something wrong, please let me know

Looks like were getting down to it. Good luck everyone, it's one of the rare recruitments where I don't think the GM can select a wrong group of players.

Ok. Conversation time.
Behind the scenes, something has changed and I wanted to discuss it with you guys. Nothing bad, and quite possibly, something good.

Here's the thing: I recently came into possession of the Pathfinder adventure "The Dragon's Demand" and I am really excited by the idea of running a single adventure from 1st to 7th level. And it's not an AP. It's one adventure.

That said, I advertised for "The Sunless Citadel", which I've run before (tabletop with friends), and all of you expressed interest to play it...with good reason. It's quite fun and even unique. Well worth playing.

Which leaves me with three choices:

1) I run Sunless Citadel as-is. Easy Peasy.
Whenever it ends (because I don't have the bandwith to run two games at the same time) I run Dragon's Demand, initiating a new recruitment. (Citadel ends around 3rd level, give or take. Demand is 1st to 7th and I'd rather not adjust it by 3 levels...not sure I'm up for it. lol ) It would mean that any characters in Sunless Citadel wouldn't be eligible for Dragon's Demand, and I'd hate to have anyone feel their time was wasted.

2) I run The Dragon's Demand instead. Also Easy Peasy.

3) I blend the two, starting with part of Sunless Citadel and mash it into the begining of Dragon's Demand, and build a mini campaign world out of it. I've already got ideas, and there are some surprising hooks in each that make this feasible.

So here's where I am, and I'd appreciate your feedback, guys.
I'm seriously not trying to do a bait and switch on you. I've been advised by several people (some of you, even), that pretty much ALL of you are worthwhile players and you bring a lot to any game you play in. I don't want to shortchange you in any way.

I'd like to know which way each of you prefer, and if it would change your mind about playing. (This also goes for ANYONE who's previously backed out.)

IF we change to either option 2 or 3, everyone would have the option of changing submissions if they like, if that makes a difference to anyone.

So that's it.
Not being wishy-washy. I'm honestly good with any of the three options. What do you think?

~ PD

I would vote for option 3 followed by two. A mashup sounds fun and more "personal" rather than a sterile adventure or AP. Also my concept takes at least 8 levels to enter the PrC :)

Personally, I'm good with any of those options. I've never played either module, although I hear they're both great. I like that you put forth a (nearly) Core-only build requirement, because it encourages people to put more personality into their PCs. That's what I'm here for.

I'm good with options 1 or 2, definitely. 3 could be fun if you're enthusiastic about it; in fact, it could be the most fun if you're into it.

Thanks for being up-front about all this!

The third option does sound intriguing, but also the most work for you. There is always a lot of work involved in running a game, so I wouldn't want you to take on too much.

None of the options would change my mind about playing or about what I would want to play.

A brave soul could do all three... :)

Well now, that certainly is a plot-twist.

The Dragon’s Demand is an excellent adventure, which I highly recommend. I own it as well and have in fact run it in it’s entirety as a GM for a RL group some years ago.

And while the combination of time and my rather unreliable memory has blurred many of the details, I do remember many of the major spoilers and more will undoubtably come back to me during play.

As such, I’m compelled to vote for option one. Should the majority prefer one of the other options, I’m likely to withdraw my submission. Alternatively, I’d be willing to act as a guest NPC or co-GM in a limited capacity.

Option 2 - I wouldn't consider it bait & switch.

Unless folks really min-maxed for Sunless Citadel?! Characters can probably stay as is.

Core only Half-Orc Rogue is ready to rumble!

Now, that's a moench! (in the nicest meaning)

Well, I guess now is as good a time as any to mention that while I haven't played the Sunless Citadel, it was run by GM Nightfiend for a game I was in and wound up dropping out of for a little bit. I also have the Dragon's Demand, but it isn't as fresh in my mind. I'm happy with any of the choices, but if I had to pick, I'd go with this order, Dragon's Demand, The Mashup, Sunless Citadel.

The good news for me is that Ping's backstory works in either case. It's just the name of the village she and her sisters winds up in changes.

Grand Lodge

Im cool with any of the options, but 3 intrigues mw the most.

Feel free to keep offering opinions, but after seeing the current responses, I think I'm probably gonna pull up my big-boy pants and do the mash-up.

It'll be less word-for-word adventures and more customized storyline, tailored to the characters and whatever you guys bring to it.

Feel free to change character submissions if you want. (Not encouraging it, just allowing it. I like who you guys have submitted currently, but to be fair, this one DOES include a Dragon. Might change someone's mind...)

RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16

In that case, Balthazar the Blind and Archimedes return to their secluded studies, hopefully to get another chance to adventure someday.

My offer to run specific NPC’s or co-GM in a limited capacity stands. Drop me a PM or Discord message (jacedk), Plastic Dragon, if you’re interested.

Still here and interested PD - mashup sounds fun.

Regards Torvaa - likely won't change anything - was working on her backstory regarding the original pitch and being sent by the Church of Torag to investigate the fallen dwarven ruins. Not sure if this will likely change with the mashup - but its flavour so no issue there. Could be she's been charged with recovering an item of significance from said Dragon's hoard??

I never put forth a background for Kaliban the Mishappen, but I typically incorporate story elements.

Simple Background:
An Orc-blooded mother (priestess, druid, oracle - very spiritual) who saved the life of a gravely wounded Human warrior/knight).

He's had to walk the line between both races, equipped with his father's physical prowess and his mother's gift of insight and connectedness - even with those who reject him.

Never fully accepted by either culture and is out to make his own fortune in the world.

Just asking, was the Deadline still today? If it was, based on PD's post mentioning it, recruitment ended about 4 hours ago.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

The deadline has indeed passed. I'll be going over the characters and announcing the party members tomorrow. (Mon. 10/2) Today's my daughter's 16th birthday, and I'll be occuppied for most of it.

Here's my understanding of those still wanting to play:

The Applicants:
AdamWarnock: Ping Ibbleting Female Gnome Sorcerer

Djack Nymball: Kaliban the Mishappen Male Half-Orc Rogue

Phillip Gaston: Chestman Barrelhouse Male Dwarf Fighter

Critzible: Dagny Lyght Female Human Cleric of Sarenrae

Trawets71: Laurel Treekeeper Male Elf Fighter

Andostre: Lanliss Endarro Male Elf Cleric of Desna

Aldizog: Dandelion of EaglesHead Male Dwarf Bard

Black Dow: Torvaa Highmettle Female Dwarf Paladin

If I've gotten something wrong, please let me know and I'll adjust it.

Starting Premise:
The party will be traveling with a caravan of wagons that are delivering pots, pans, mead, ale, and pickled fish to taverns along the road, with the final stop being in a town called Belhaim.

You've been traveling for almost two weeks, having made three stops already, with two to go. One in Oakhurst, and another in Belahim. Each of you is making 50 gp each for this run, (10 gp per stop) and have recieved 30 gp already.

BIG NEWS EDIT:
Ok, after a cursory glance at the very cool characters, I'm going to try something. There are currently 8 of you. I planned to take 6 characters. I've decided to have everyone play along until the group gets to Belhaim. (Probably a few weeks of play in real time). At that point, if things are working well, everyone stays. If not, players will have the option of leaving the story, or if it's too much for me and necessary, I'll trim two characters. My goal will be to keep everyone.

Does that seem fair to you guys?

As for you, Jacob Trier, would you be interested in NPCing as the lead caravan wagon driver, and owner of transport service? He'd mostly stay with the wagons and all that, unless the wagons themselves come under attack. At the moment, he's a blank slate, non-adventurering NPC. Have fun with it. (If you're not interested, no worries. I'll cook something up.)

So, all of you are invited to DOT in on the Gameplay thread (once it's up tomorrow) and then delete it, to add your character to the Game. (You guys known the drill)

Woo! Thank you for your very generous offer, PD. Hope you and your little girl enjoy the birthday festivities. :)
