I've never once bought one of the items listed I could buy on my chronicle sheets. 90% of the time, I just don't have enough gold or credits to do so. The rest of the time, it's an item I can't use or don't want. They have been something I would have loved to have but have always cost too much. I looked at one of the items I wanted. To get it, I would have had to not buy any equipment at creation and saved all my gold up to that scenario, and even with my downtime, my income would have been at least ten gold short.

Is this normal? If so, how do you save up to get better items you find?

In my last chronicle, I got a magic item that would be useful and fun t have, but to get it, I'd have to skip getting the striking rune I'd been saving up for. So I'm torn between something cool or something that is just a number to make the math work at higher levels. Never mind, I just double-checked, and the magic item bonus doesn't stack with my other equipment. So back to that, I've never found anything useful I could afford.

Is there something I'm missing, are we supposed to sell off the equipment we can't afford to buy? I don't remember ever once just finding gold in an adventure. Iv'e found more coins on the floor at the grocery store.

You can save up gold to buy it later. You don't have to buy it immediately off the chronicle.

PFS2 is almost always significantly ahead of the expected wealth by level. You'll most likely be able to afford all your fundamental runes as soon as you ding their level. In general non-PFS pacing you'd typically only see at most 50% getting their runes immediately (or before) at the minimum level, with the other 50% trickling in over the full level range -- so PFS characters tend to have runes about 2-4 scenarios earlier than the baseline expectation.

It might be hard to stretch to buy things early, though, even with chronicle access. I know I had a champion who got his +1 armor potency rune early thanks to a chronicle, but had to delay his striking rune to make that work. For him, I felt it was the correct trade off.

The treasure bundle mechanism for giving treasure/abstracting liquidating found loot also means people don't "tend to experiment" as much with random stuff they find and just stay focused on the "optimal" gear they want.

Dose that apply for Starfinder and Pathfinder?

Liquidating found loot. does that mean I should be selling loot I don't want?

You already have. Thats where the gold from your mission came from. You just get the gold in the upper right hand corner. chronicle sheet loot just lets you access things quicker

The loot is big and eye catching and that gives a really outsized idea of its importance compared to what it actually does.

In starfinder it's really good for getting above level armor.

Basically, you turn your loot into the Society, and the quartermaster gives you first dibs on it, which means that sometimes you get access to above level stuff or stuff that you could not find otherwise.

It looks like I'll need to stop buying so many concert T-shirts to save up for loot. Too many T-shirts becoming a bulk issue too...

Is there a boon to rent a storage locker?

Thanks, everyone, for your help. I think my problem was I thought you had to buy it when you got it or lost the chance. Now I got a lot of chronicles to go back over to see what I can get.

Nah. You are just assumed to have one in the apartment you have but don't need to spend money on.

Now that I got a room I can start collecting concert posters, now to figure out how much wall space I have...

So our organized play id + character number must be our apartment number as well is my guess.

I don't count on loot to get rich, for that I have my downtime profession...
