I believe that gives us:
.
Balik - on point
Aram
Alden & wolf
Lavode
Ralph
Exiel - tail end charlie
.
Sing out if I got that wrong or you don't like it.
I believe most of us need a light source. If we are not trying to be sneaky, I can keep a dancing lights floating out in front of the group.
Exiel |
Looks good to me too.
Exiel keeps a wary eye out from the rear.

This is 5 minutes after the previous encounter. Adjust buffs timing.
After traveling for another 600 feet down this cavern, you run across an opening leading outside. As you walk out the hole, two claws grab at Balik as he exits the cave. The claws land and lift up Balik off the ground, dealing 42 points of damage. Balik is now within the scorpions claws.
claw 1: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (5) + 21 = 262d6 + 13 ⇒ (3, 5) + 13 = 21
claw 1: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (4) + 21 = 252d6 + 13 ⇒ (2, 6) + 13 = 21
As the rest of you emerge from the tunnel, you see a gargantuan scorpion above the cave exit, a good 20 feet away. the scorpion is 20 feet above the cave entrance, It is not a straight climb to get to him, it's difficult terrine.

Alden, how does your aid other work if they are grappled?
Balik Ulfenssen |
Balik grumbles a few curses, splutters and activates his boots of escape, appearing 30' away from the scorpion. He limps away from the scorpion even further, calling out "BLAST IT! It's a damnable scorpion! I mean it, wizard: BLAST IT!"
HP 47/89
Alden Helpinghand |
Alden will move forward past the scorpion, and if it still is able to AOO him, Naala will help him with a +6 AC bonus for a 36.
Amsheagar |
The scorpion will take an AOO on Alden. Aoo: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (6) + 21 = 272d6 + 13 ⇒ (2, 3) + 13 = 18 and misses him.
Aram bin Kaleel |
Aram will use acrobatics to dodge through the scorpion's claws. Acrobatics: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (1) + 14 = 15 Gah! (NOTE: +5 on AC versus any AO due to mobility feat and dervish trait)
Once safely past the creature's reach (using a single move action), Aram activates greater bane (vermin) on his bow and fires a single shot. Arrow #1: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (15) + 15 = 30 damage: 1d6 + 5 + 4d6 ⇒ (3) + 5 + (5, 3, 1, 4) = 21
Amsheagar |
The arrow hits the scorpion and deals damage to it. It moves after Aram, which brings him 5 feet above the still out of sight of those inside the cave. It attacks with a claw at Aram.
attack: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (11) + 21 = 322d6 + 13 ⇒ (3, 6) + 13 = 22

I'm still seeing the old map on roll20. Is there supposed to be a new map up?
"Lucien, now would be a good time. Use that."
I used my Create Spell Tattoo archetype ability to give my familiar a spell tattoo with the haste spell on it. She is now activating the spell tattoo.
Exiel's thrush familiar emerges from its tattoo form. It touches a rune on its chest, releasing a spell that speeds up the actions of Exiel and up to 4 other party members. (I need the map to see who I can get. In order of importance: Aram, Balik, Alden, Ralph, Lavode, Lucien.)
Meanwhile, Exiel utters an incantation that causes his form to warp and ripple into a new monstrous form. (Casting Monstrous Physique 1 to turn into a gargoyle.) Bat-like wings and a horn sprout from his back and forehead respectively, and his skin turns grey and pebbly. His fingers harden into claws and his teeth distend into sharp fangs.
"Don't worry guys, it's still me. I'm just borrowing a new form for awhile."
With a sweep of his new wings, Exiel flies out of the tunnel towards the large scorpion, attempting to move near Alden so the halfling can aid him, but otherwise aims to end up adjacent to the scorpion, taking any AoOs due to him along the way.
Amsheagar |
There is no map for this encounter... none were provided and my interwebs is being slow, so i'll make one after work. Alden is 30 feet from the cave, i guess in the direction that Balik ran and Aram is in one of the claws of the beast. The beast is right above the tunnel exit.
The scorpion lashes out with it's tail, trying to sting the buzzing fly.
Amsheagar |
Crude map is up.
Alden Helpinghand |
:( Alden would have stayed near his allies and tried to aid them against attack, but it's a bit late now.
Alden doubles back, and now adjacent to his allies he attempts to aid Aram's attempt to escape the scorpion's grasp. If he provokes another AOO by doing this, Alden's AC is 36.
Aid another on Aram, +6 to his CMB check to escape the grapple this turn. As always, Alden and Naala will attempt to aid any who might be attacked, giving +17 to AC up to 4 times in the round.

Feeling confident that his meal is firmly within his grasps. The Scorpion grabs at Exiel's bug form.
It hits unless Alden is within range to aid you Exiel.

Alden, i assume you're in range for your +17 will help Exiel. Also, Aram... i have some grim news for you, unless you can get some sort of magical help to escape from this monster, you can't break free. You are currently down to 4hp, if i am not mistaking.

If it matters, he will do piercing damage with the first attack and bludgeoning with the second. Any observable difference?
Amsheagar |
I am looking at the bodyguard combat feat... it says you have to be next to ally to give the bonuses. He was adjacent to Aram, but not you Exiel. So, I will need a fort save from you Exiel. sorry... :( Good News.. you are flanking the scorpion.
you notice no noticeable difference in-between the two different types of damage. Though, the Scorpion would have shifted when it went to attack you, turning another way.. which doesn't do much to him, but does move Aram.

Balik Ulfenssen |
HP 28/89 Balik winces as he realizes the wounds are slightly worse than he thought.
Alden Helpinghand |
@GM: Correct, I need to be adjacent to an ally to help them with Bodyguard. Ouch. I assume that Ralph was also not adjacent before the scorpion grabbed him? If he happened to be, he would have gotten the +17 to his AC against the grab.
Alden attempts once more to aid Aram in breaking free, as does Naala.
Alden will use his Swift and Standard actions to aid, and he and Naala together add +10 to his next attempt to break free of the scorpion. Hopefully that's enough to do so before the stupid scorpion can crush him to death!
"Friends, you must stay adjacent to me in combat! It is imperative!!"
Ralph Cauthorn |
[dice=reflex]1d20+4 This is the reflex save if Ralph can make the concentration check needed to cast the spell.

the scorpion grabs Ralph in his free claw. Crushing him a little as he does so. 43 damage. Sorry... he has a reach of 20 feet...
It was my oversight, but fortunately Ralph has a contingency for that. Not a contingency spell, but just as good.
Ralph winces when he realises that the scorpion is about to grab him. He almost as a reflex ceases his incantation for his fireball and instead utters another quick incantation and surrounds himself in a hemisphere of force. The sphere shudders as it absorbs the blow of the scorpion's attack, but it otherwise does little more than chip the surface.
Immediate action to cast emergency force sphere.
This means that the fireball does not go off, but Ralph is also not hit or grappled. The scorpion has used his attack of opportunity. Everyone take this chance to reposition.
The sphere has hardness 20 and 100 hp. It now has 96 hp left.
"I don't think so, you snivelling mindless beast. It will take more than a moment's carelessness for Ralph Cauthorn to be touched by the likes of you."
Aram bin Kaleel |
Even if I break free, it will kill me with ease. I must strike now, while it is off-balance...
Aram activates greater bane as a swift action, and full attacks with his scimitar. "Sarenrae, guide my blade and banish this creature back to the pit from whence it came!"

A layer of acidic slime coats a babau's skin. Any creature that strikes a babau with a natural attack or unarmed strike takes 1d8 points of acid damage from this slime if it fails a DC 18 Reflex save. A creature that strikes a babau with a melee weapon must make a DC 18 Reflex save or the weapon takes 1d8 points of acid damage; if this damage penetrates the weapon's hardness, the weapon gains the broken condition. Ammunition that strikes a babau is automatically destroyed after it inflicts its damage.

Okay.... You have survived another encounter. What do you guys want to do? Do you want to sleep and spend the night out here, or do you want to trug on?
Yes...because spending a night in the World Wound is ALWAYS a good idea. I'll keep moving on, thanks. I still have enough of my big spells to keep going.
We have 3 potions of cure moderate wounds from the guys we defeated earlier and I have a wand of infernal healing if someone still needs healing after that and does not have their own.

Wow that thing does a lot of damage pretty dang fast. I'm ok with going on. Just so you know, I am out of 5th level spells. So no more summoned creatures today. I still have moderately good stuff I can do.

Once Aram is healed up, Alden will be ready to move on as well.

Used my create spell tattoo ability to re-make the spell tattoo on Lucien. As before, the spell in the tattoo will be haste.
Are Balik and Aram good for healing? I can help activate CLW wands if anyone needs. I won't help with infernal healing though. =p
