It's just for firearms. Just notice that the end of sentence is pretty clear "and the firearm misfires.".
So if you are using a crossbow nothing happens.
OK there's also some typo in "Next, Strike with your firearm." but probably a mistake.
My only doubt is if the mistake is here or in Requirements. (I don't know if the feat was designed for firearms only and them adapted for crossbows too or if it's always a firearm feat and they put crossbow by mistake).

Yeah, there is some strange things with the 'Requirements' line of Alchemical Shot.
It doesn't list that the firearm or crossbow has to be loaded in order to use the action.
The requirements allow using a crossbow, but the rules text states that you strike with a firearm specifically, and lists that the weapon misfires if the attack misses - which isn't applicable to a crossbow.

But as for the actual question at hand instead of the specific example.
If an ability allows being used with a crossbow and says that the weapon misfires, I would probably rule that it doesn't really have any effect on the weapon. The crossbow would end up unloaded after the misfire if it wasn't already due to the action taken. But that is all.

I mean, yes, it says 'and the firearm misfires', but with the 'Strike with your firearm' I was uncertain, since the feat can be used with crossbows. So it's a little less clear than it could be.
Not having crossbows misfire makes sense though, thank you.
