Replacing Kyuss as BBEG

I've heard tales of people replacing Kyuss with other creatures/entities of power. Has anyone on the forum boards done this? Who have you replaced Kyuss with, and how did it change the campaign?

My post was in the Three Faces of Evil plot twists back in 2009 I believe, phone not cooperative tonight.

I posted this a while back.

Kyuss being a conduit for Jergal. I do believe though that the PCs fought Kyuss in the finale not Jergal so more of a meta plot device than a replacement of the final "boss".
