Lightning rod shot and electric arc

Envoy's Alliance

If I shoot an enemy with lightning rod shot (Treasure Vault 82) and an ally then starts blasting away with electric arc, does said enemy take the extra damage from the lightning rod shot twice? Once from getting zapped themselves, and then once again from being near somebody else getting zapped?

If so, that's some powerful teamwork!

Please do not ask Treasure Vault questions until the street date, as not everyone will have the book available.

My mind is such that if I don't ask the questions as I think of them, I won't remember to ask them later when the book releases.

Also, why should I wait? Surely I'm not the only one to have received a digital copy by now. Is there some forum rule I don’t know about? Or perhaps you're just jealous?

Because you're limiting your pool of people that can answer you and by the time everyone gets it and could answer, your thread will most likely have been hidden by other new posts that people can actually respond to. Additionally, the DEV's don't want us to post any mechanics until he general release dates, so you might end up with incomplete or round about answers because of that.

Well, it IS annoying to see a flurry of posts about something you haven't seen/gotten yet. It can seem like they are flaunting their early access. So from a politeness/etiquette perspective it can be frowned upon.

So there isn't a rule per se, but if you want the best reception to your posts/questions and an increased chance of getting answers, it's no a bad idea to follow it.

I shall consider making an offline "don't forget to ask these questions " list for the release date then.

Thank you for clarifying.

I best not get slammed by you for spam come release date though! XD

I am not jealous, as you can see I am a Rulebook Subscriber and therefore get the books early just like anyone who pre-orders.

On top of what graystone said, there will also likely be day 1 errata to the book. For example, Michael Sayre has already publicly stated that the Tendril Shot will be errata'd as it is way too powerful as printed. Any questions you may have now might already be answered by the time the book is officially released.

I wouldn't worry about it either way. Just be aware that many of us can't answer yet. I won't have the material till the pdf becomes public, as getting deliveries to where I live is stupidly expensive and slow. From paizo anyway.

I haven't gotten it early but have been giving answers based off of what we've seen in stream previews. What's interesting about Lightning Rod Shot in this case is that if you're directly targeted by a lightning damage effect, the damage is added to that effect's damage ("1 additional electricity damage for each die of damage dealt"), but if a nearby creature is targeted, you simply take the damage.

So with the Electric Arc example, if it's, say, a level 5 casting, then the enemy might only take 2 additional damage from being directly targeted if it succeeds on the save, and then take 5 damage automatically from the other target taking damage (as I believe halving 5d4 after rolling still counts as 5 dice).

I do say "interesting" because I don't think it's really a problem in any way, just maybe a little counterintuitive.
