It’s got the same director and pretty stellar cast, but the new writer seems (to me) unimpressive. And since it’s current MCU, I have to say I’m still just cautiously pessimistic. I don’t particularly trust them put out a movie worth paying to see in a theater (and maybe not even paying a D+ subscription for).

I’m basing it on both what he has and has not done. Much of what he’s done seems to be stuff like Jimmy Kimmel, awards shows, and the Onion. Not very impressive in my book. He’s got a few comic book writing credits, but nothing of substance or longevity. And that’s about it.
So I don’t see a lot that makes me want go to the theater to watch a comic book inspired movie written by him. Especially based on my opinion of the current MCU. If I still have Disney+ when this movie comes out on that platform, I might watch it then. That would depend on what kind of reviews I see.

I liked the Ant Man movies, not only for being more action comedies, but also, while they certainly had fighting, they really lean in to him being a thief and using trickery and heists to win, rather than just outfighting his enemies. I'm expecting those aspects to be the same this time around, even if the stakes are a lot bigger.

I have no knowledge of comicKang and he didn' impress me in the Loki series, so that's not a draw for me
Well for one thing, he basically almost had the Celestials to a cosmic enema for him due to his time manipulations. Trust me. Comic Kang is great.
That other guy is just a different/lesser Kang.

Is it weird that the title of the movie is Ant-Man and The Wasp but the Wasp doesn't really appear in the trailer at all? I'm fine with an Ant-Man and Cassie movie, but then title it differently. Geez, the MCU keeps digging around for cool women heroes and also keeps shafting Janet.
While I agree Hope has been overly sidelined in particular, and the trailers emphasize particularly Scott and Cassie, the latest trailer shows a lot of Hope and Janet (mind, Hope is mostly reacting to stuff, though we see her as the Wasp rescuing Scott in a shot), and moreover, it seems evident to me that Janet has a past with Kang and is going to have a major role in this film as we learn what she had been up to in the Quantum Realm and her knowledge is likely going to be critical.
While I'd again agree that for something called Ant-Man and the Wasp there is a lot more of Ant-Man, and if you want to talk about Marvel's examples of unfair sidelining of female characters, I can do this all day... but both Wasps are there are Janet in particular seems to be getting some meaty stuff (the bulk of which probably can't be revealed in the trailer).
Indeed if I decide to see this in theaters it will largely to see Michelle Pfeiffer.
As for the who's gonna die speculation upthread...

I think Scott will probably get stuck in the Quantum Realm. And I certainly don't see Cassie dying in this film. Given the recasting and everything else in Phase 4, it seems like they are setting up the Young Avengers, and I could even see her being a rallying figure, assembling that team to help fight Kang.

Saw this. Bearing in mind I tend to just like the pretty colors and music and action scenes, was not nearly as bad as I expected based on reviews. Oddly I generally hate when Marvel gets too invested in setting things up for the next thing and I had heard this movie was going to do that... actually, while it clearly hints at things coming, it was fine. Tweak a few small things and rub the Marvel serial numbers off and it would have been a good sci fi romp in an alternate dimension. Overall it was fun. A lot of Janet as I had hoped. (Really, movie could/should have been called "Ant-Men and the Wasps"). Jonathan Majors was very, very good.
Only major complaint was early on there a few delayed reveals for drama's sake that were illogical/impeded the narrative flow. Once they got past that bit the pacing was pretty good.
It's not the best movie I've ever seen but definitely worth the matinee price I paid to watch it.
Final thought: trailer really did not reflect final product. Indeed I feel like there were character moments advertised in trailer that never happened or were minor in actual film. I mean I know often Marvel uses alternate cuts and takes for trailers but several things were noticeably different from what I expected based on the trailer.

Just watching on Disney+ (finally) and while it was fun, it was definitely the worst of the Ant Man movies, and just an ok in the middle of the pack for MCU movies. I get the criticism. For me the biggest problem was that it didn't feel like an Ant Man movie - it felt like a superhero movie, and Ant Man had done a great job up until now to feel different.
Gone were the heist comedies of the first two movies, and researching what's going on, figuring out a plan, and using trickery as much as super powers to win the day. Technically there was a heist, but only really because they said it was, but it really wasn't. There really weren't people being stolen from, and the probability storm hazard was just one obstacle (though it was cool). Pretty much just, shrink down and get it rather than a heist. Sure there were funny moments, but they were more on par with any MCU movie. I also didn't like the heavy reliance on flashback narratives for a lot of the exposition, nor the forced splitting of the team the majority of the movie. Ant Man never even heard Janet's explaining of what's going on.
